Abstract

Abstract. The increasing popularity of online dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble has brought attention to the phenomenon of online dating deception, where a person intentionally misrepresents himself with an identity different from reality in establishing an online relationship in an online dating setting. One possibility for individuals to engage in online deception is due to their self-esteem (Baumeister et al., 1989). This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and online dating deception in dating application users, especially Tinder and Bumble. This research was conducted with a quantitative correlational approach. There were 314 participants in this study aged 18-40 years who actively used the dating applications Tinder and Bumble by filling out online questionnaires via the Google Form. The measuring instrument used in this research is the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory which is based on Coopersmith's theory (1967) and Deception Behavior In Social Media which is based on Utz's theory (2005). The results of this study show a significance value of 0.876 > 0.05, meaning that there is no significant relationship between self-esteem and online deception in users of online dating applications Tinder and Bumble with a correlation coefficient of -0.009. This finding confirms that other factors may be more influential in driving individuals to engage in online deception in the context of online dating.

Abstract

Bullying occurs not only among children but also among adults, especially in the workplace. Rejection, negative treatment, and a lack of appreciation in the work environment can affect self-esteem. It is crucial to enhance self-esteem in the context of work because work takes up a significant portion of an individual’s life and can impact their well-being. The application of Al-Shabr (commonly known as patience) with reframing techniques, focusing on resilience, perseverance, and steadfastness, aims to build confidence and optimism, develop resilience in facing challenges, and make efforts to overcome issues by setting new goals. This study, conducted on three workers experiencing workplace bullying and the resulting low self-esteem, used a one-group pre-test post-test design and was analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The statistical results indicate that there are differences in results after implementing Al-Shabr-based reframing techniques, but the effect is not significant in terms of increasing the self-esteem of workers who experience bullying. The increase in scores showed that Al-Shabr-based reframing techniques had an impact on improving the self-esteem of workers who experienced bullying. Al-Shabr-based reframing techniques are promising and easy to implement but need to be tested on a wider sample.

Abstract

Telepsychology in Indonesia can be a solution to overcome the shortage of mental health professionals to address psychological problems, but it is a new challenge for counselors. Anxiety clients prefer online psychology services because of 1) easier access to feel accompanied by them when they are anxious and 2) they need immediate help in the event of a panic or anxiety attack. The public's interest in using telepsychology has not been accompanied by empirical data on the ability of counselors to provide online counseling services, especially in establishing working alliances. This research is the second stage. The first phase of research was conducted on 93 counselors who were selected through a simple random sampling technique. The result is that it is difficult for counselors to carry out extra therapy influence when conducting online counseling. This second research began by developing a way to increase extra therapy influence through monitoring tasks based on the principle of constructing tasks (Kazantzis et al., 2005) and monitoring tasks via text (Alfonsson et al., 2019) to overcome the difficulties of counselors in monitoring task assignments and conducting a test of the influence of the provision of monitoring modules structured in an online counseling setting to lower anxiety levels. The design of this second study is an equivalent comparison group design, with a total of 6 participants obtained through the purposive sampling technique.
