Abstract

The black water containing humic acid, HA in peat land rural area is a serious issue. This study aims to synthesis of activated carbon, AC from Ilalang Weeds, IW (Imperata cylindrica) as low-cost adsorbent for HA. The success AC synthesis by H3PO4 activator from IW was evidently characterized by Fourier Transform Infra-Red, FTIR and Scanning Electron Microscopy, SEM. The effects of pH solution, initial HA concentration, and contact time were systematically studied to investigate the performance of Activated Carbon from Ilalang Weeds, ACIW. The results showed the increasing of Langmuir monolayer capacity of HA adsorption on carbon from IW before (49.75 mg g-1) and after (56.82 mg g-1) activation process at the pH optimum 6.0. The equilibrium adsorption data fitted with the isotherm model was shifted from multilayer Freundlich model (CIW) into monolayer Langmuir model as the consequences of increasing pore diameter size and active sites intensity. Calculation of adsorption energy by Dubinin-Radushkevich (EDR) model, 0.50 and 2.24 kJ mol-1 for CIW and ACIW, respectively, showed the increasing of physical affinity of HA with the active sites of adsorbent. Adsorption kinetics showed that the adsorption behavior followed the Ho pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The experimental results of this work demonstrate that the ACIW can be used as a promising low-cost adsorbent for HA removal for clean water production in peat land rural area.

Abstract

The use of TiO2 nanocomposite modified with Fe3O4 dan Ni dopping for silver ion photoreduction has been successfully carried out. In this study, nanocomposites were fabricated through the sol-gel technique. Structure, optical, and magnetic properties were analyzed using XRD, DRUV-Vis, FTIR, and VSM analysis. The XRD pattern revealed the anatase phase of TiO2 and the iron oxide formed was Fe3O4. UV-Vis spectroscopy showed the formation of absorption in the visible region in the presence of Ni doping. The nanocomposite had magnetic properties of 12.6 emu/g with paramagnetic type. TiO2 nanoparticles presented the percentage reduction of Ag ions with UV and Visible light of 82.65% and 21.43%, respectively, while Fe3O4/ TiO2-Ni with UV and Visible light were 80.93% and 90.72%, respectively. Ni-dopped nanocomposites had shown high photocatalytic activity under both UV and Visible irradiation.

Abstract

Isopropylidene Glycerol Acetate (IGA) and Isopropylidene Glycerol Propanoate (IGP) as ester compounds using acetic and propanoic acids have been synthesized, characterized, and studied for their antibacterial properties. The IGA was synthesized from ethyl acetate (EtOAc) and 1,2-O-isopropyliden glycerol (IPG) with a mole ratio of 1:8 through a transesterification reaction. Meanwhile, the IGP was synthesized using ethyl propanoate (EP) with the same ratio and method as IGA. All materials in this study were identified using FT-IR, GC-MS, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR. The characterization results indicated that the compounds of EP, IPG, IGA, and IGP had been successfully formed and identified. It was also revealed that the compounds of EP, IPG, IGA, and IGP were successfully synthesized with yields of 37.72, 27.78, 70.11, and 63.83%, respectively. The antibacterial activity test revealed that neither IGA nor IGP inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus or Escherichia coli at concentrations of 62.5; 125; 250; 500; and 1000 ppm. Therefore, it was asserted that ester compounds synthesized with short-chain carboxylic acids, such as propanoic and acetic acids, lacked antibacterial properties.

Abstract

The development of tourist villages can have positive and negative impacts on socio-economic changes in rural communities. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research to identify the potential of tourist villages through the services and facilities of the Waburi Park artificial cliff ecotourism in Gaya Baru village. The purpose of the study was to identify the potential of tourist villages in Gaya Baru village through the development of the Waburi Park Artificial Cliff Tourism object towards socio-economic changes in the community. The study was conducted in December 2023 in Gaya Baru village, Lapandewa District, South Buton Regency. The research method used direct data collection in the field consisting of observation, observation, interview and documentation methods. Data were analyzed descriptively through primary data and secondary data. The results of the study showed that Gaya Baru Village has tourism potential consisting of Nature Tourism, Historical Tourism, Socio-Cultural Tourism, Artificial Tourism and Marine Tourism. The development of tourist villages into Waburi Park artificial cliff ecotourism through the Decree of the Regent of South Buton Number 464 of 2021. The management aspect of the Waburi Park Artificial Cliff Ecotourism is managed by BUMdes Permata Mandiri, Gaya Baru Village. The Ecotourism Management Aspect is managed by Pokdarwis Kamba Waburi. The increase in income of Gaya Baru village has a positive impact on the development of supporting facilities and infrastructure in the Waburi Park Artificial Cliff Tourism Object area. The development of the Waburi Park Artificial Cliff ecotourism destination can encourage socio-economic changes in the Gaya Baru village community by increasing village fund budget revenues from 2022 to 2023.

Abstract

Kali Biru, located in Banabungi Village, Pasarwajo District, Buton Regency, is one of the popular tourist destinations for domestic tourists, offering natural beauty that remains original and beautiful, as well as high accessibility. Although awareness of the importance of maintaining river cleanliness has increased, suboptimal waste management practices remain a significant challenge. This is due to the lack of intensive education on the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness, especially rivers, as a tourism asset that has great potential in encouraging the economic growth of local communities. Clean-up and education actions about the importance of environmental cleanliness in the Kali Biru area were carried out using direct education methods, distribution of cleaning tools, and environmental cleaning in order to increase public and tourist awareness of the cleanliness of the river environment. The results of the evaluation show that the implementation of education and community empowerment programs in the Kali Biru tourist area is effective in increasing public understanding and affection for the importance of maintaining the cleanliness and preservation of the river environment as a tourist destination. This is expected to encourage sustainable economic growth through the development of responsible tourism.

Abstract

Rumput laut merupakan komoditas unggulan Indonesia bernilai ekonomi tinggi, namun potensinya belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal di Awainulu akibat keterbatasan pengetahuan, akses bibit unggul, serta tantangan hama dan penyakit. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mensosialisasikan budidaya rumput laut dengan metode rakit apung kepada masyarakat Desa Awainulu, Pasarwajo. Metode yang digunakan adalah partisipatif dan sosialisasi, dengan sasaran masyarakat, tokoh adat, kelompok wanita, dan perangkat desa. Kegiatan meliputi pemaparan materi, diskusi, dan tanya jawab. Melalui sosialisasi, pemahaman masyarakat mengenai teknik budidaya, pengendalian hama, dan manajemen pemeliharaan meningkat signifikan, tercermin dari kenaikan skor rata-rata pengetahuan peserta (n=35) dari 2,3 menjadi 3,94. Peserta juga menilai kegiatan bermanfaat dengan skor rata-rata 3,89. Hasil ini menunjukkan efektivitas sosialisasi dalam meningkatkan pemahaman dan persepsi manfaat peserta. Keberlanjutan program bergantung pada penguatan kolaborasi antara akademisi, pemerintah desa, dan masyarakat melalui pelatihan dan pendampingan yang berkesinambungan.
