Abstract

This systematic literature review (SLR) investigates the impact of CEFR-aligned writing assessments on ESL/EFL learners' writing competence from 2019 to 2024. Using the PRISMA framework, the review evaluates studies comparing CEFR-based writing interventions with traditional assessment methods, focusing on grammatical accuracy, coherence, and overall writing proficiency. Data were sourced from Scopus using well-defined inclusion criteria. Key themes include feedback mechanisms (peer, teacher, and automated tools like Grammarly), the role of digital platforms, and learner engagement. Findings suggest that CEFR-aligned assessments provide structured, outcome-driven writing improvement, especially when supported by feedback and technology-enhanced instruction. However, limitations remain concerning long-term effects and the applicability of gamified learning tools for advanced learners. This review underscores the need for future research into writing assessment scalability, task-based rubrics, and the integration of AI-driven evaluation tools in CEFR-based writing instruction.

Abstract

The Rāmāyaṇa has long been recognized as one of the most influential epics that bridges literature, spirituality, and cultural philosophy across Asia, yet studies on its Old Javanese version have tended to focus primarily on textual form, metrical beauty, or general philosophical themes while neglecting the symbolic evolution of elemental motifs. This study addresses that gap by applying Roland Barthes’s semiotic theory in conjunction with Hindu religious perspectives to interpret the evolving role of sacrificial fire across four key episodes. A literary-religious analysis was conducted using Poerbatjaraka’s authoritative edition as the primary source, complemented with secondary studies on Hindu ritual fire traditions. The results show that fire undergoes a sequential transformation: it first manifests as emotional turmoil reflecting grief and instability, then becomes a solemn witness to alliances and loyalty, later functions as a purifier and defiant judge against deceit, and finally culminates as the sacred medium of self-sacrifice and the cosmic union of Atman and Brahman symbolized in Ardhanareswara. These findings demonstrate that fire in the Rāmāyaṇa Djawa-Kuna is not a static emblem but a dynamic symbolic agent that shapes psychological states, validates social bonds, and mediates transcendental union. By mapping these shifting connotations, the study contributes to literary scholarship by offering a richer semiotic reading of Old Javanese texts and to religious studies by elucidating fire’s role as both ritual and metaphysical force. Ultimately, this research underscores how ancient symbolic structures continue to inform cultural identity, spiritual practice, and the human search for meaning in contemporary times.

Abstract

Enhancing students' writing skills is a crucial aspect of quality learning. The primary objective of this quasi-experimental study is to examine the impact of the suggestopedia method in contrast to traditional instructional approaches, while also assessing the influence of gender on students' writing achievement and the potential interaction between instructional approach and gender. The study took place at SMAN 1 Nganjuk, with the participation of 36 students in the experimental group and 35 students in the control group. Among the participants, there were 58 female students and 18 male students. Data analysis using SPSS revealed a significant difference in average scores, with the experimental class averaging 83.34 and the control class averaging 79.41, resulting in a mean difference of 3.93. The significance level of .05 indicated that the suggestopedia method was more effective than the conventional approach. Moreover, when considering the entire cohort of 53 female and 18 male students, a significant difference of 6.13 or approximately 7.98% was observed, favoring female students' writing performance. However, the analysis of variance demonstrated a significance value of 0.551, which exceeds the 0.05 threshold, leading to the conclusion, that the findings indicate a lack of interaction between the learning models and gender in relation to the writing outcomes of the students.

Abstract

This study employed a qualitative textual analysis using Jacques Derrida’s deconstruction approach to examine George Orwell’s Animal Farm. The research aims to uncover how language constructs and destabilizes power relations in totalitarian contexts by analyzing key binary oppositions, such as leader versus people, freedom versus oppression, and justice versus corruption. The analysis reveals that Orwell’s narrative exposes ideological contradictions through slogans like “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others,” illustrating how language manipulation legitimizes political control. The study also highlights how deconstructive reading encourages students to critically interpret textual ambiguities and power structures through reflective writing and classroom discourse. The findings show that integrating deconstruction into literature learning fosters students’ critical thinking and analytical writing skills. This research contributes to literary education by offering a pedagogical framework that promotes deeper engagement with literary texts, enabling students to relate literature to contemporary socio-political realities. It emphasizes the relevance of deconstructive pedagogy in cultivating critical and reflective readers within the framework of 21st-century education.

Abstract

This research explores the relationship between the school principal's leadership style and teachers' work discipline in State Senior High Schools Pekanbaru, Riau. The study adopts a quantitative approach with a survey method and correlation technique. Through random sampling, the research involves 40 teachers from eleven State Senior High Schools in Pekanbaru. Data collection is conducted using a questionnaire, which has been calibrated with validity testing using Pearson Product Moment and reliability coefficient with Cronbach's Alpha formula. The research results indicate a relationship between the leadership style of school principals and the discipline of teachers in State Senior High Schools in Pekanbaru. The significance testing of a correlation coefficient of 0.51 supports this relationship. It suggests a moderate connection between the principal's leadership style and teacher discipline. This study implies that enhancing teacher discipline can be achieved through the role of the school principal's leadership style. In other words, a correlation of 0.51 indicates that the principal's role in leading and guiding teachers can have a positive impact on their work discipline, and these efforts may be crucial in achieving a higher quality of education.
