Abstract

Previous studies reveal the need for the Muslim community to know the exact meaning of the vocabulary of Surah Al-Fatihah and understand it in depth. This research aims to identify these needs among the Muslim community based on their perceptions of using them, especially using telephone applications. The research used an inductive and analytical approach to explore the needs of the Muslim community regarding telephone application design elements to study the meaning of the vocabulary of Surah Al-Fatihah. The tool used was a questionnaire distributed to respondents from the research sample. The research results show that respondents have a high level of acceptance of learning the meaning of Surah Al-Fatihah vocabulary through mobile applications, and they also prefer various valuable functions and presentation methods in the application, in addition to the availability of modern educational facilities—content to suit different learner levels. In addition, it becomes clear that the results of this research can be used as a basis for designing telephone applications to study the meaning of the vocabulary of Surah Al-Fatihah.

Abstract

The Arabic language plays an important role in the lives of Muslims. Learning it as a foreign language is the wish of Malaysian students in schools and universities, however they often encounter difficulties and obstacles in the process of learning Syntax and Morphology due to multiple factors, including the difference in linguistic phenomena between the Arabic language and the Malay language. This research aims to identify the difficulties of learning Syntax and Morphology, explore the negative factors affecting the learning process, and monitor the experts’ opinions regarding the process of learning it as two effective tools in facilitating it for students majoring in the Arabic language in Malaysia. The researchers adopted the descriptive analytical approach and they used a questionnaire tool to obtain the data, and then analyzed and evaluated them based on the experts’ opinion in the field. The researchers concluded with a set of results, the most important of which are: Most of the study sample faced difficulties in learning Syntax and Morphology, and they agreed that the lack of practice and application is one of the main reasons for their weakness in both subjects, and one of the best methods suggested by the experts is to reformulate teaching method by the teachers, hoping that it will form targeted to all those concerned with this topic. تلعب اللغة العربية دوراً مهمًّا في حياة المسلمين، ويعد تعلمها لغة أجنبية أمنية الطلاب الماليزيين في المدارس والجامعات، لكن غالبًا ما يصطدمون بصعوبات وعراقيل في عملية تعلم النحو والصرف لوجود عوائق متعددة، منها: اختلاف الظواهر اللغوية بين اللغة العربية واللغة الملايوية. هدَفَ هذا البحث إلى التعرف على صعوبات تعلم مادتي النحو والصرف، واستكشاف العوامل السلبية المؤثرة في عملية التعلم، ورصد آراء الخبراء تجاه عملية تعلمها بوصفهما أداتين فاعلتين في التسهيل على طلبة تخصص اللغة العربية في ماليزيا. اعتمد الباحثان المنهج الوصفي التحليلي وقاما باستخدام الاستبانة للحصول على استجابات طلبة تخصص اللغة العربية، ومن ثم تحليلها وتقييمها بناء على آراء الخبراء في المجال. وقد انتهى الباحثان إلى مجموعة من النتائج، من أهمها: أن أغلب عينة الدراسة قد واجهوا صعوبات في تعلم علمي النحو والصرف، كما اتفقوا على أن قلّة الممارسة والتطبيق هي من الأسباب الرئيسة لضعفهم في كلتا المادتين، ووجه الخبراء إلى تغيير طريقة التدريس من قبل المعلمين من خلال تعديل المقررات التعليمية المدرسية.

Abstract

Films have a significant impact on the Muslim community in Malaysia due to their content; watching the film affects them with an understanding of Islam or otherwise based on its content, and watching the film also assists Arabic language students in learning language studies from the film, such as analyzing the linguistic knowledge found in the film. This study sought to uncover Said Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas' core notions about the nature of knowledge from an Islamic perspective by applying them to the film Paskal and showing the Islamization of the Malay language used in the film. The current study depended on the descriptive analytical technique, where the semiotic tool was employed when studying the film's content to obtain deeper Islamic notions from the perspective of Al-Attas. The most significant finding from this study's conclusion is that the Malay film contains numerous scenarios that illustrate the seven Islamic ideals from Sayd Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas's perspective: religion, humanity, science and knowledge, wisdom, justice, literature, college and university. In addition, the term Islamization of the Malay language refers to using Islamic Arabic terminology in Malay. In this film, loanwords in Arabic are used often, totaling 28 words, and two Malay terms that convey Islamic connotations.

Abstract

The issue of semantic dispersion has captured the attention of researchers in the field, and they attribute its reasons to translators’ negligence in highlighting the connotations correctly. This is a result of their sole reliance on literal or meaningful translation that consequently led to ambiguity surrounding the meanings and semantic style of Quranic verses. This study aimed to analyze the process of translating words in selected Quranic verses into the Malay language by different translators of the holy Qur’an by identifying the main problems involved in the translation process. Comparisons were made between the translations above by selecting several controversial verses that lead to semantic dispersion. The current study employed the descriptive analytical comparative approach, where the researchers described the approaches in translating the holy Qur’an from the Arabic language into the Malay language. Three translations were compared, namely the Al-Humaira translation (printed version) and the other two translations, which are digital, namely Surah.my and The Noor, because the Malay community commonly uses them. Al-Humaira is the primary source in this study, where examples of selected verses were analyzed and compared with the other two translations. Several findings were reported in this study, with the most important being that there are glaring differences with significant gaps between the translation processes of the translations above, where the translation of Al-Humaira was better and more accurate than the other two translations. Another finding in this study is that the difficulties facing translators are related to the connotations of meanings resulting from dimensions of language such as culture and connection to context, difficulties that cast a shadow over all translation processes. Hence, it is almost impossible to convey the meanings of the holy Qur’an with complete accuracy despite the excellent skills of translators in the field.
