Abstract

Title: Study of Structural Elements of Traditional Mbaru Niang House TraTraditional houses are built using natural materials and environmentally friendly construction techniques, taking into account climate, topography, and local culture. The connection structures in traditional houses are closely related to responding to local climate conditions. For example, the connections in the traditional house of Mbaru Niang in Wae Rebo, NTT, can withstand wind and earthquake loads due to its location in the mountains, which are prone to earthquakes and tornadoes. This study aims to analyze the connection structure in the Mbaru Niang traditional house using Iwamura's sustainability theory. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, collecting data from previous literature. The results show that the structure of Mbaru Niang is formed by the material characteristics sourced from the environment by the Wae Rebo community, which are used according to their natural properties, such as worok wood and bamboo, which are flexible materials, allowing the building structure to adapt to the flexibility of the materials. Flexibility can also be seen in the connection techniques that withstand earthquake loads and wind forces. This finding will produce a design proposal for connection techniques in contemporary buildings inspired by the local wisdom of connection techniques in Mbaru Niang houses.

Abstract

The increasing rate of urbanization leads to more unmanaged waste, currently at 33.08% of 18 million tons per year.  This research uses recycled cans as architectural elements to address the acoustic comfort issues in coworking spaces. Some of these studies have also recommended the addition of sound masking elements such as natural sounds, music, and others to enhance workers' productivity. Furthermore, earlier research has experimented with processing waste plastic materials into acoustic elements based on sound absorption theory. The aim of this research is to conduct experiments by using recycled waste cans as an architectural element that can function as sound masking, providing an acoustically comfortable sound range that supports users' well-being. Results show that recycled partitions placed between workers produced a sound intensity level of 57.6 dBA, which is still 7.6 dBA above the comfort threshold.

Abstract

The Kayutangan Corridor is one of the areas in Malang that holds many historical values, namely as a shopping center in the Dutch colonial era. However, the glory and history of kayutangan began to fade with the times. This research's general objective is to provide a design proposal for the Kayutangan corridor that can present historical stories of the buildings along the corridor, such as an open-air museum, with the building as its object. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research with a signage theory approach. The final result of this study is the proposed signage and pedestrian design in the Kayutangan corridor.

Abstract

Architecture exists because of the response to the needs of human social relationships. Space is one part of architecture that is very important for use in everyday human life, one of which is social interaction space. Urban kampongs are settlements in Jakarta that contain social interaction space for dwellers. This space is an important space and is often discussed in the scope of architecture, but there has been no special review of the aspects that form the social interaction space used by dwellers of urban kampongs in Jakarta. Therefore, it is important to conduct a special study that discusses the aspects that form the social interaction space in urban kampongs. This study is a literature study that uses a qualitative method with a narrative descriptive analysis approach. The basic literature used is an understanding of spaces from the perspective of sociology, anthropology, and geography. The results of the study show that the social interaction space of dwellers of urban kampongs in Jakarta is greatly influenced by non-physical aspects (socio-cultural) and physical aspects (location). This study is very useful for enriching the theory regarding the social interaction space of urban kampongs in particular and the theory of spatial design in general.

Abstract

The overall question is how perceives needs in housing and housing related decisions are influenced by a) social norms and roles in the village which the women come from, b) the urban environment to which they have migrated, and c) social interaction in their new place of residence. A socio-psychological approach has been applied, and has enabled the researcher to describe and explain in great detail the workers’ perceptions about aspects of their housing – through accounts of their everyday experiences as member of their family in the left village and as member of the worker society in the city. The characteristics of women industrial workers have been explored by analysis at both the individual and societal level. Studi ini membahas kebutuhan perumahan bagi wanita pekerja industri di Surabaya, Indonesia.
