Abstract

During extensive field surveys in the 2015 year, Eurycoma apiculata A.W. Benn has been found for the first time in the forest reserve of Kenegerian Rumbio, Kampar District of Riau province. This finding is a new record of the medicinal plant in Indonesia. The taxonomic description and photographs of the species are given in this article.

Abstract

Climate change and global warming, caused by increasing carbon concentrations in the air, are the most pressing environmental problems. The loss of forests causes an increase in the air's ability to absorb carbon. If this is allowed to continue, the earth's temperature will increase. On the other hand, environmental pollution continues to increase. This service program aims to provide Education about caring for the school environment. This service was carried out on September 2018. This service stage consists of 6 stages: 1. Observation. 2. Interview. 3. Counseling 4. Practical training on biopori application 5. Planting practice 6. Competition to make posters with the theme of green school activities in schools. From the results of the service it was found that the service activities carried out had provided benefits in increasing students' awareness of caring about the environment. This can be seen from the results of the pre test and post test where there is an increase in understanding of the environment by approximately 40%. From the results of the service, it is recommended to maintain the enthusiasm of students in protecting the environment, especially the school environment, under the guidance of teachers.

Abstract

The addition of inorganic fertilizers to overcome the limitations of organic fertilizers in the form of compost pellets affects the microbial life within them. Meanwhile, the biological activity of fungi as biocontrol agents, biofertilizers, decomposers, and plant growth promoters is highly essential. This study aimed to determine the optimal NPK fertilizer dosage for compost pellets. The research was conducted from October to December 2024 at the PEMTA Laboratory, UIN Suska Riau. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method with six treatment levels. The results showed that the treatment without NPK addition produced 7 fungal isolates with a population of 5.0 × 106 cfu/g; addition of 1% NPK yielded 11 isolates with a population of 3.5 × 106 cfu/g; 2% NPK resulted in 10 isolates with 1.0 × 105 cfu/g; 3% NPK had 7 isolates with 6.0 × 105 cfu/g; 4% NPK showed 4 isolates with 5.0 × 105 cfu/g; and 5% NPK had 7 isolates with 1.2 × 105 cfu/g. Referring to the original source of the isolates, which were derived from compost shaped into pellets, the biological activities of the fungal isolates were predominantly decomposers, followed by phosphate-solubilizing fungi. The number of isolates acting as biocontrol agents and producers of plant growth regulators (PGRs) was relatively low.

Abstract

Tanah ultisol merupakan jenis tanah yang kurang subur dan memiliki masalah dalam aspek fisik, kimia, dan biologi tanah. Salah satu cara untuk mengatasi masalah ini adalah dengan menggunakan biochar dari sekam padi serta pupuk organik cair (POC) yang berasal dari limbah ikan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan dosis optimal pemberian biochar dari sekam padi dengan penambahan POC limbah ikan dalam memperbaiki sifat fisik tanah ultisol. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL), dengan berbagai variasi dosis biochar dan POC limbah ikan. Total terdapat lima perlakuan yang diulang empat kali, sehingga terdapat total 20 unit percobaan. Perlakuan-perlakuan tersebut sebagai berikut: P0 =Tanpa perlakuan; P1 = 25 gram biochar/polybag + 45 mL POC/polybag; P2 = 50 gram biochar/polybag + 45 mL POC/polybag; P3 = 75 gram biochar/polybag + 45 mL POC/polybag; dan P4 = 100 gram biochar/polybag + 45 mL POC/polybag. Parameter yang diamati dalam penelitian ini meliputi warna tanah, tekstur, kadar air, porositas, dan bobot isi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian dosis biochar dari sekam padi dengan tambahan POC limbah ikan dapat memperbaiki karakteristik fisik tanah ultisol, yaitu warna tanah, porositas, dan bobot isi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa dosis terbaik adalah pada perlakuan dengan pemberian 100gram biochar dari sekam padi ditambah dengan 45 mL POC limbah ikan.Kata kunci: biochar, fisik tanah, limbah ikan, ultisol
