Abstract

In English as Foreign Language (EFL) classroom context, it is compulsory for the students to make reflections of literary works. The current study is aimed at examining how the students implement Gibbs’ reflective cycle in making reflections of literary analysis. The qualitative study employed a document analysis upon the students’ reflection artefacts. The students’ reflections are their responses to a short story written by Amy Tan. The findings of the study revealed that Gibbs’ reflective cycle is a good framework to be used by the students in writing reflections upon literary works they are working on. The well-structured framework of writing reflection helped the students explore the literary work deeply, since the reflective cycle accommodates important aspects that can be explored from the literary work by the students. It can be concluded from this study that among the models of reflective writing developed by Kolb, Johnson, and Gibbs, the latest model is considered the most suitable to be used in literary classroom since its well-structured model enables the students to write better reflections of literary works.Keywords: reflective writing; Gibbs’ reflective cycle framework; literary works; literary analysis.

Abstract

Makalah ini berjudul Nilai-nilai Religius dalam Cerita Rakyat Ciungwanara. Makalah ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya nilai-nilai religius dalam cerita rakyat Ciungwanara. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui nilai-nilai religius apa saja yang terkandung dalam Cerita Rakyat Ciungwanara. Buku tersebut dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil kajian pada makalah ini berupa penemuan nilai-nilai religius melalui pengalaman Raja Galuh dengan permaisurinya, Senopati Bima Reksa (Aki Balangantrang), Ciungwanara, Patih Bondan Sarati, Dewi Pangrenyep, dan Hariang Banga. Di samping itu, pengalaman religius yang dapat dipelajari dalam cerita rakyat ini berupa hubungan harmonis antara Raja Galuh dengan permaisurinya, hubungan kasih sayang antara Aki Balangantrang dengan bayi hasil temuannya, hubungan perdamaian antara Hariang Banga dengan Ciungwanara, serta penghianatan Bondan Sarati dan Dewi Pangrenyep terhadap Raja Galuh. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa dalam Cerita Rakyat Ciungwanara terdapat beberapa pengalaman religius yang dapat dijadikan sebagai pembelajaran dalam kehidupaan sehari-hari.

Abstract

The understanding of material values can influence the strength of one's faith and belief in a situationthat can cause someone to no longer acknowledge the existence of God. The purpose of this research is to describe and interpret the inner struggle of the main character, Karman, in the novel Kubah by Ahmad Tohari. This type of research method used is a qualitative descriptive method. The data obtainedin the form of written words related to the structure and religious values contained in the novel Kubah by Ahmad Tohari. Sources of data in this study are the novel Kubah by Ahmad Tohari and other referencesfrom other books and articles that are relevant to the research. The data collection technique used in thisresearch is the documentation technique. The inner struggle with little faith remaining describes how a central figure returns to his original beliefs and doubts whether the main character will be acceptedin his community or not. Analysis and intrinsic elements of religious value contained in the novel can be identified from the behavior of the characters in the story.

Abstract

Karya sastra diciptakan pengarang atau sastrawan untuk dinikmati, dipahami, dan dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat dalam kehidupan. Peneliti memilih novel “Sebab Mekarmu Hanya Sekali” untuk diteliti karena novel tersebut memiliki banyak unsur nilai moral. Adanya unsur moral dalam karya sastra sering dikaitkan dengan fungsi sastra bagi pembentukan karakter.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai moral yang terdapat dalam novel “Sebab Mekarmu Hanya Sekali”. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah novel “Sebab Mekarmu Hanya Sekali” karya Haikal Hira Habibillah. Fokus kajian penelitian ini adalah nilai moral. Hasil Penelitian menunjukan terdapat 24 nilai moral dengan aspek kajian hubungan manusia dengan diri sendiri, 16 nilai moral dengan aspek kajian hubungan manusia dengan manusia lain dalam lingkup sosial dan lingkungan alam dan 31 nilai moral dengan aspek kajian hubungan manusia dengan Tuhannya. Nilai moral terbanyak yang ditemukan dalam novel “Sebab Mekarmu Hanya Sekali” karya Haikal Hira Habibillah terdapat dalam aspek kajian hubungan manusia dengan Tuhannya yaitu 31 nilai moral.
