Abstract

This study is aimed to analyze the determinant factors affecting the agricultural land productivity of food crops sub-sectors in 25 provinces in Indonesia during the period of 2005-2009. Descriptive analysis is done to describe the agricultural land productivity of food crops sub-sectors in Indonesia. The Cobb-Douglas production function with the assumption of Constant Return to Scale on the food crops sub-sectors production is applied. To solve the heteroschedasticity problems and avoid the auto-correlation, then the Generalized Least Square estimator with Cross-Section Weight is done. The result shows that labors and fertilizer are two factors that do not affect significantly to the productivity of food crops sub-sectors; while capital, research, human resources and irrigation are factors that affect positively to the agricultural land productivity of food crops sub-sectors. The study also shows Java as the area with the highest level of productivity and Maluku has the lowest level of productivity.

Knowledge on economic sectors which are efficient and have experiencing positive business cycle could ease the allocation of available economic resources. This research provides information on the technical efficiency of economic sectors as well as the business cycle of the economy in Bali. A stochastic frontier method is used to analyze the technical efficiency of economic sectors while the Bry-Boschan algorithm is used to estimate the business cycle of the economic sectors which are relatively efficient. The estimation result indicates that the efficient economic sectors in Bali are trade, hotel & restaurant (thr) sector and agriculture sector. Both sectors contribute most on the Bali’s economic output. At the end of the observation period, the economic business cycle in Bali is in a period of contraction. Abstract

This study applies Almost Ideal Demand System models to examine Indonesia’s competitiveness as a tourist destination compared to two main competitor countries. The model was used to estimate the sensitivity of tourism demand from seven tourist-main market countries to price changes, the tourists’ total budget and global economic crisis. The model estimated result meets the assumptions of the demand theory: homogeneity and symmetry. The elasticity price shows that Indonesia is more competitive than Thailand among Australian and American tourists; while Indonesia is more competitive than Malaysia among American tourists. The research result also shows that the tourism price is the main determinant affecting the allocation of tourist expenditure in the three destinations.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the distribution of income from tourism activities in Bali and to identify opportunities for more equitable utilization. The survey results show that: (1) the economic impacts of tourism activities on the Balinese economy can be seen from 3 aspects: sectoral output increase, employment output, and wage/salary output, which significantly affects the performance of particular sectors. The air transport sector in Bali is becoming the sector with the biggest increase in output and the increase in revenue due to the spending of foreign tourists. Meanwhile, the trade sector enjoys the highest employment absorption. (2) There is a gap between districts/cities in the Bali region which is shown by the amount of tourism share in business turnover in Badung regency compared to other regions. (3) There is still a chance of even distribution of tourism in Bali. Efforts to build tourist destinations in the peripheral region can be one option for efforts to state tourism activities in Bali. Keywords: tourism activities, distribution of income

Abstract

Trade, hotel, and restaurant sector which represents tourism sector is the biggest contributor for Bali economy sector. It accounts for more than 30% of Bali income. Most of the income comes from foreign tourists’ expenditure which accounts for more than half of the local tourists’ with the foreign tourists’ arrival of 36% more of the locals’. The fact therefore underlines the importance of foreign tourist growth observation due to its significance for Bali economy. This research aims at estimating the change of tourists’ arrival because of the fluctuation of rupiah (depreciation and appreciation) which allegedly thought as one of the underlying factors affecting the number of tourists’ arrival. This research also aims at analyzing the sensitivity of foreign tourists’ to the change of traveling cost and at analyzing the tourists’ destination shift should there be any change of traveling cost and also at analyzing the characteristics of the foreign tourists affected by the exchange rate fluctuations. Event studies shows that exchange rate fluctuation does not affect foreign tourists’ decision on coming to Bali. This is due to the fact that foreign tourists’ arrival escalates regardless the exchange rate fluctuation (depreciation and appreciation). Meanwhile, descriptive analysis shows that only minority of foreign tourists are affected by exchange rate fluctuations with underlying characteristic of the country of origin. Moreover, despite the rise of traveling cost to Bali, more than 50% respondents choose to travel to Bali and although there is a change of destination, more than 30% respondents choose other Asian countries as a replacement. It is also revealed that the older the tourists, the less the effect of exchange rate fluctuation on their decision to visit Bali.

Abstract

The growth of halal products and businesses in areas with minority Muslim populations, such as Papua, Indonesia, presents both distinct challenges and opportunities. This study examines the development of Halal-certified Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Papua, a region with a minority Muslim population. Using primary data from 33 Halal-certified SMEs in Jayapura, the research investigates the factors that affect income growth following Halal certification. Data were collected using non-probabilistic sampling and analyzed through descriptive statistics and logistic regression. The results show that entrepreneurial age and business tenure positively impact income growth, emphasizing the value of experience. However, market orientation (targeting markets outside Jayapura) has a negative effect, likely due to logistical challenges. Surprisingly, entrepreneurial education does not significantly influence income generation, suggesting that local knowledge and experience play a larger role. The study recommends that Halal SMEs focus on enhancing workforce management, confidence, and marketing strategies to improve competitiveness and market expansion. These findings offer valuable insights for fostering the growth of Halal-certified SMEs in minority regions and supporting sustainable economic development in Papua.
