Abstract

Despite the rapid growth in the market demanding for wireless sensor networks (WSNs), they are far from being secured or efficient. WSNs are vulnerable to malicious attacks and utilize too much power. At the same time, there is a significant increment of the security threats due to the growth of the several applications that employ wireless sensor networks. Therefore, introducing physical layer security is considered to be a promising solution to mitigate the threats. This paper evaluates popular coding techniques like Reed solomon (RS) techniques and scrambled error correcting codes specifically in terms of security gap. The difference between the signal to nose ratio (SNR) of the eavesdropper and the legitimate receiver nodes is defined as the security gap. We investigate the security gap, energy efficiency, and bit error rate between RS and scrambled t-error correcting codes for wireless sensor networks. Lastly, energy efficiency in RS and Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) is also studied. The results of the simulation emphasize that RS technique achieves similar security gap as scrambled error correcting codes. However, the analysis concludes that the computational complexities of the RS is less compared to the scrambled error correcting codes. We also found that BCH code is more energy-efficient than RS.

Abstract

In the past few years, the increase in the relation between the physical and digital world over the internet was witnessed. Even though the applications can enhance smart home systems, it is still early stages and challenges in the field of internet of things (IoT). An extreme level of data quality (DQ) system management is essential to produce a meaningful vision. However, in most home energy management system has no straightforward process of removing abnormal data. Hence, the research aims to propose and validate the model of anomaly detection for power consumption in real-time. The moving average (MA) approach identifies and removes abnormal energy consumption data. The results obtained from the forecasting time series auto regressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model demonstrated that the proposed heuristics effectively enhanced energy usage forecasting. The selection of optimum parameter values for the MA was comprehended for time-series forecasting error minimization by comparing mean squared error (MSE). These outcomes proved the effectiveness of the existing technique and precision of choice of the appropriate. Therefore, the method can effectively route the cleaned sequence data streams in a real-time environment, which is valuable for spotting the anomalies and eliminating for enhancing energy usage time series.

Abstract

Observing the vehicles movement becomes an urgent necessity due to exponentially increasing numbers of vehicles in the world. However, to this regard, a good deal of research had been presented to estimate the exact physical position of the vehicle. The major challenges faced vehicle localization systems are large coverage areas required, positioning at diverse environments and positioning during a high-speed movement. However, in this paper, the challenges of employing the vehicle localization techniques, which rely on the propagation signal properties, are discussed. Moreover, a comparison between these techniques, in terms of accuracy, responsiveness, scalability, cost, and complexity, is conducted. The presented positioning technologies are classified into five categories: satellite based, radio frequency based, radio waves based, optical based, and sound based. The discussion shows that, both of satellite-based technology and cellular-based technology are emerge solutions to overcome the challenges of vehicle positioning. Satellite-based can provide a high accurate positioning in open outdoor environment, whereas the cellular-based can provide accurate and reliable vehicle localization in urban environment, it can support non-line of sight (NLOS) positioning and provide large coverage and high data transmission. The paper also shows that, the standalone localization technology still has limitations. Therefore, we discussed how the presented techniques are integrated to improve the positioning performance.
