Abstract

Cognitive distraction is one of the several contributory factors in road accidents. A number of cognitive distraction detection methods have been developed. One of the most popular methods is based on physiological measurement. Head orientation, gaze rotation, blinking and pupil diameter are among popular physiological parameters that are measured for driver cognitive distraction. In this paper, lips and eyebrows are studied. These new features on human facial expression are obvious and can be easily measured when a person is in cognitive distraction. There are several types of movement on lips and eyebrows that can be captured to indicate cognitive distraction. Correlation and classification techniques are used in this paper for performance measurement and comparison. Real time driving experiment was setup and faceAPI was installed in the car to capture driver’s facial expression. Linear regression, support vector machine (SVM), static Bayesian network (SBN) and logistic regression (LR) are used in this study. Results showed that lips and eyebrows are strongly correlated and have a significant role in improving cognitive distraction detection. Dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) with different confidence of levels was also used in this study to classify whether a driver is distracted or not.

Abstract

In recent times, peer-to-peer (P2P) has evolved, where it leverages the capability to scale compared to server-based networks. Consequently, P2P has appeared to be the future distributed systems in emerging several applications. P2P is actually a disruptive technology for setting up applications that scale to numerous concurrent individuals. Thus, in a P2P distributed system, individuals become themselves as peers through contributing, sharing, and managing the resources in a network. In this paper, P2P for vehicular communication is explored. A comprehensive of the functioning concept of both P2P along with vehicular communication is examined. In addition, the advantages are furthermore conversed for a far better understanding on the implementation.

Abstract

The most common technology used in targeted advertising is facial recognition and vehicle recognition. Even though there are existing systems serving for the targeting purposes, most propose limited functionalities and the system performance is normally unknown. This paper presents an intelligent targeted advertising system with multiple functionalities, namely facial recognition for gender and age, vehicle recognition, and multiple object detection. The main purpose is to improve the effectiveness of outdoor advertising through biometrics approaches and machine learning technology. Machine learning algorithms are implemented for higher recognition accuracy and hence achieved better targeted advertising effect.

Abstract

With the rapidly increasing crime rate in recent years, community safety issues aroused a wide concern among public community. Various security technologies had been invented and carried out, for example password door lock, alarm system, and closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs). Although the installation of CCTVs is common in most premises, they require extensive man power to manually monitor the videos. Moreover, the reliability of human operator greatly deteriorates when they are in fatigue condition. In view of this, our project aims to develop an automated computer vision based surveillance system. Unlike ordinary CCTV system that requires human operator to manually observe and detect intruder, a computer vision based surveillance system automatically monitor the security of premises and trigger actions once an intrusion is detected. Basically, it is a simple surveillance camera system that will be setup at the entrance of the house. The reliability is being enhanced by applying the motion detection and face recognition algorithm, using histogram of oriented gradients that could detect the existence of people at the main entrance and try to validate the user. Apart from recognizing the user, the propose system also support mobile interaction whereby user can monitor the camera, activate alarm, and even received notification when a stranger was being detected at the entrance of the house. By including such functionalities, proposed system had highly surpassed the existing surveillance system by not only support monitoring, but also try to recognize the people and inform the user at the exact moment when stranger detected, so that user could take immediate action about it, for example activating the alarm or report to police. The project was executed with expected outcome and objectives had been accomplished.

Abstract

Halal is the term used for permissible food according to Islamic dietary law. Indicators such as Halal logo have been used to facilitate Muslims in identifying Halal food. In Malaysia, the Department of Islamic Development (JAKIM) has introduced a standard Halal logo for locally manufactured products and currently recognizes 67 Islamic bodies in 41 countries around the world as certification bodies for products imported into Malaysia. Therefore, a more practical way is required to assist Muslims in recognizing various forms of Halal logos on food packaging. A neural network (NN) approach is proposed to recognize authentic and recognized Halal logo on imported products. A dataset of available and recognized Halal logo images worldwide will be created for this purpose. The dataset will be used to train and test the performance of the learning algorithm to recognize logo of recognized foreign bodies by JAKIM. The approach is expected to complement current facilities for verification using Short Messaging Services (SMS) and web portal. The approach is assumed to be more efficient and accurate for Halal logo verification which eventually could win the trust of Halal product consumers and support the Halal industry in Malaysia.

Abstract

Long range communications technology (LoRa) has been widely used in a variety of applications and researched in different domains to exploit its full potential. Its openness makes it ideal for a variety of internet of things (IoT) installations which further allows opportunities for viable solutions in vehicular communications. Hence, a bibliometric analysis was performed to distinguish the application and growth of the technology specifically in vehicular communications. The scoping review processes from Arksey and O’Malley was applied to guide the review process. The selected scholarly works adhered to the PRISMA-Sc framework where 385 articles from two main electronic databases, i.e., Scopus and Science Direct which discussed LoRa in vehicular communications contexts were assessed. This study aims to: i) examine how LoRa’s research has grown from year 2010 to 2021 among the scholars; ii) determine key areas discussed in LoRa’s vehicular communications research. Findings from 70 studies in the final analysis indicated that LoRa has been widely studied based on application, theoretical or protocol and performance. However, it has not been widely explored in vehicular context. Hence, our findings support the global research community in this context.

Abstract

The internet of things (IoT) is one of data revolution area and is the following extraordinary mechanical jump after the internet. In terms of IoT, it is expected that electronic gadgets that are used on a regular basis would be connected to the current of the internet. IPv6 over low-power wireless personal area networks (6LoWPAN) is a one of IPv6 header pressure technology, and accordingly, it is vulnerable to attack. The IoT is a combination of devices with restricted resource assets like memory, battery power, and computational capability. To solve this, RPL or routing protocol for low power Lossy network is deploy by utilizing a distance vector scheme. One of denial of service (Dos) attack to RPL network is blackhole attack in which the assailant endeavors to become a parent by drawing in a critical volume of traffic to it and drop all packets. In this paper, we discuss research on numerous attacks and current protection methods, focusing on the blackhole attack. There is also discussion of challenge, open research issues and future perspectives in RPL security. Furthermore, research on blackhole attacks and specific detection technique proposed in the literature is also been presented.

Abstract

Among the most severe crash scenarios are those caused by driver’s decisions to manoeuvre the vehicle to the adjacent lanes. In most scenarios, drivers’ intentionally change lanes to take over another slower vehicle and preserving the current vehicle speed especially on highway road. The decision may be fatal for drivers of incoming or approaching vehicles which are not aware of the intention and fail to reduce their vehicle speed to avoid lane change collision. Hence, this study proposes a lane change decision aid and warning system which aims to support the driver’s decision prior to performing the lane change on highway road where vehicles are travelling in a single direction. The system implements vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) via long-range (LoRa) communication technology to alert the host vehicle of approaching vehicles and warns the approaching vehicle when a host vehicle intends to change lane. Visual and audible warning will be triggered as precaution mechanism for both host and approaching vehicle drivers. Experiments shows that V2V using LoRa can provide contextual information which are useful to assist drivers in deciding whether to change lane or not on highway use case settings.

Abstract

In recent times, the volume of traffic congestion has been rapidly growing on roads. These days the necessity of having safe transportation and journey is essential. Thus, vehicle communication could be a possible solution to enhance safe transit. Vehicular communications provide a wide range of applications with different characteristics, namely vehicle and vehicle (V2V) communications. Every year, traffic accidents kill many people worldwide, and many people have been injured. V2V communication enables vehicles to communicate with each other to provide safety and convenience to drivers. Therefore, this paper explores a direction to develop a conceptual approach to V2V communication with HC-12, nRF24L01, and XBee. The study aims to analyze and evaluate the communication range that may contribute to the future road transportation system.
