Abstract

This paper proposes a cheap solution to be a starting point for building smart electrical power billing systems. Electrical power has many challenges issues in Iraq, one of these challenges and the most important is the Billing system. The smart power meter uses an Arduino Uno as the core for controlling the sensed data and transmits it to the electrical power unit for billing services. The system is constructed with two parts: the transmitting unit measures the current, voltage, power and power factor through the compact new sensor PZEM-004T. The data sensed and processed by the microcontroller which displayed the KWh on (2*16 LCD) display. This data also transmitted to the electrical power company unit via the global system for mobile communications (GSM) module (SIM900A) which is a dual band GSM/GPRS-general packet radio service modem. The receiving part is mainly dedicated for collecting the required consumed power data via the same (SIM900A) module and also can display it using (2*16 LCD) display. For the sake of saving these data, the receiver part uses SD ram for such purposes. With such proposed system the electrical power company can control and collect their fees monthly without loss and with minimum cost.

Abstract

In recent years, the demand for energy generated by photovoltaics has increased because of the cheapness of this energy, especially in the Middle East. This study focuses on the design and implementation of a three-phase photovoltaic inverter system for distribution of generator applications. The three-phase inverter used in this study was designed using GWM 100-01X1 as a three-phase full bridge MOSFET package. The MOSFET full bridge of the three-phase inverter is driven using IR2104 gate driver IC, and the Hall sensors of the voltage and current are used to measure the AC and DC voltage and current. The SPWM signal is generated using a PIC24FJ256GB110 as a microcontroller and interfaced to the full bridge package. Simulation and experimental results are presented to validate the three-phase inverter design.

Abstract

Maintaining frequency stability in modern interconnected power systems is critical for operational reliability, especially under varying load demands. Load Frequency Control (LFC) plays a pivotal role in balancing power exchanges and preserving nominal frequency across multi-area grids. This paper presents the design, modeling, and optimization of a two-area Load Frequency Control (LFC) system in interconnected power networks using MATLAB/Simulink. Each area comprises a governor, turbine, generator-load system, and a PID controller to regulate frequency deviations and maintain system stability following load disturbances. The study investigates the effects of key system parameters—including governor and turbine time constants, generator inertia, and tie-line coupling—on dynamic performance. To address mismatched responses between areas, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is employed to tune system parameters and improve coordination. The optimization aims to minimize frequency deviations and tie-line power fluctuations while enhancing system response. Simulation results show that the proposed optimization approach significantly improves dynamic performance. Specifically, frequency deviations in both areas are reduced by over 55%, tie-line power fluctuation is minimized by 62.5%, and settling times for frequency responses are shortened by over 44%. These improvements demonstrate the effectiveness of the optimization strategy in enhancing inter-area coordination and system resilience. The framework also serves as a practical simulation-based educational tool for power engineering students and researchers to exploreLFC design and control strategies in multi-area systems.

Abstract

This paper introduces a Simulink model design for a modified fountain code. The code is a new version of the traditional Luby transform (LT) codes. The design constructs the blocks required for generation of the generator matrix of a limited-degree-hopping-segment Luby transform (LDHS-LT) codes. This code is especially designed for short length data files which have assigned a great interest for wireless sensor networks. It generates the degrees in a predetermined sequence but random generation and partitioned the data file in segments. The data packets selection has been made serialy according to the integer generated from both degree and segment generators. The code is tested using Monte Carlo simulation approach with the conventional code generation using robust soliton distribution (RSD) for degree generation, and the simulation results approve better performance with all testing parameter.
