Abstract

Daun kersen (Muntingia calabura L.) telah banyak digunakan masyarakat sebagai tanaman obat. Berdasarkan penelitian sebelumnya daun kersen mengandung senyawa flavonoid, saponin, dan tanin yang memiliki aktivitas sebagai antibakteri. Plak gigi merupakan lapisan bening dan lengket yang terjadi akibat bergabungnya bakteri yang merugikan terutama bakteri Streptococcus mutans, sisa-sisa makanan dan saliva hingga terjadi pengerasan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memformulasikan daun kersen dalam bentuk sediaan mouthwash serta menguji stabilitas fisiknya dan untuk mengetahui efektivitas sediaan mouthwash ekstrak etanol daun kersen terhadap bakteri Streptococcus mutans penyebab plak. Pengujian efektivitas menggunakan metode difusi menggunakan pencadang. Ekstrak yang diperoleh dengan metode maserasi menggunakan cairan penyari etanol 96%. Formula dibuat dalam tiga variasi konsentrasi daun kersen yaitu 1%, 3%, dan 5% sebagai zat aktif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ekstrak etanol daun kersen dapat dibuat dalam bentuk sedian mouthwash  yang stabil secara fisik yaitu pada formula I konsentrasi ekstrak 1% diuji efektivitas sebagai sediaan mouthwash terhadap bakteri Streptococcus mutans dengan hasil diameter zona hambat sebesar 8,9 mm.

Abstract

Mulberry (Morus alba L.) is considered as an important plant in traditional Chinese medicine, due to its various compounds, including phenols and flavanoids, which have antioxidant properties so that it can be a potential anticancer candidate. This study aimed to determine the antioxidant activity, phenolic content, and potential anticancer activity in Mulberry stem extract. The extraction was done by maceration using ethanol as the solvent, while antioxidant activity test used ABTS (2,2?-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) method, phenolic content determination used Folin-Ciocalteu reagents, and anticancer activity test used the MTT (3-(4,5- dimetiltiazol-2-il)-2,5-difenil tetrazolium bromida) method on WiDr cancer cells and Vero cells. The result of total phenolic Mulberry stem extract was 35.9%, the antioxidant activity value was 83.18 g/mL, the IC50 value for anticancer activity for WiDr cells was 71.24 g/mL and Vero cells IC50 value was 154.241 g/mL. It could be concluded that the Mulberry stem ethanol extract has strong antioxidant activity and has the potential to be an anticancer agent selectively against WiDr cancer cells.

Abstract

The research about formulation emulgel of mulberry (Morus alba) ethanol extract with various concentrations of emulsifier span and tween 80® has been conducted. The purpose of this study was to determine the concentration of emulsifier (2, 3, 4, and 5%) which resulted stable formulation. Stability testing was performed under two conditions, before and after accelerated storage for 10 cycles with physical parameters include: organoleptic, homogeneity, dispersive power, adhesion, pH and viscosity. The results of showed that all parameters change after accelerated storage, but only F3 showed no significantly difference in before and after storage.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai uji aktivitas ekstrak kulit batang jamblang (Syzygium cumini) dengan variasi beberapa pelarut sebagai antihiperglikemik pada tikus putih. Tujuannya dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas berbagai ekstrak kulit batang S.cumini terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah pada tikus putih (Rattus novergicus). Penelitian ini terbagi dalam 5 kelompok: Kontrol negative diberi Na-CMC; kontrol positif diberikan glibenklamid; kelompok 3-5 secara berturut-turut diberikan ekstrak etanol 70%, n-heksan, dan etil asetat. Peningkatan kadar glukosa darah diinduksio oleh aloxan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua ekstrak mampu menurunkan kadar glukosa darah akan tetapi ekstrak etanol yang berbeda secara signifikan terhadap semua kelompok perlakukan.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disorder that specifically involves the metabolism of carbohydrates (glucose) in the body, also causes disorders of fat and protein metabolism. The benefits of kersen (Muntingia calabura L.) which are well known, among others, overcome DM. This study was conducted to determine the hypoglycemic activity of ethanol extract of M. calabura leaves in reducing blood sugar levels and effective dose of reducing blood glucose in mice (Mus musculus) induced by alloxan 130 mg/kg BW. Distribution of experimental animals, group I was given a glibenclamide suspension 0.13 mg/kg BW as (positive control), groups II, III and IV were given ethanol extract of M. calabura leaves at a dose of 50, 100 and 150 mg/kg BW and the group V is given a 1% NaCMC suspension (negative control). Giving extracts carried out for 7 days. The results showed blood sugar levels before treatment, after induction, and after treatment, respectively, group I (81.00; 141.00; and 94.75 mg/dL), group II (79.00; 138.50; and 50.00 mg/dL), group III (102.50; 119.25; and 77.75 mg/dL), group IV (88.25; 146.00; and 61.00 mg/dL), and group V (108.00; 131.25; and 114.75 mg/dL). Based on the results of the study showed a decrease in blood sugar levels at all doses of ethanol extract of M. calabura leaves which has the potential as a diabetes drug.

Abstract

Background: Uric Acid or Gout is the results of purine metabolism, i.e. the enzymatic reshuffle of body cells from dinucleotide or ribonucleotide acids. High uric acid levels can be settled in the central joints and mesenchymal tissues such as the kidney.Objective: To determine an effect of administering the Kersen's (Muntingia calabura L.) ripe skin infusion against uric acid levels in the rats which have been induced with caffeine.Methods: Eighteen rats was divided into six groups, i.e. three as a control group (negative, positive and normal) and three as a treatment group (0,5%, 1%, and 2% doses). The measurements of blood uric acid levels were performed before induction, after induction and after treatment on 9th, 12nd, and 15th days. Results: There was a reduction of the uric acid levels in the rats which administered by ripe Kersen's fruit skin infusion at 1% with 3,43 mg/dL and 2% with 3.32 mg/dL doses. However, this reduction is not equivalent to the effect of allopurinol control decreased at 2.9 mg/dL. Statistical analysis results with Complete Randomized Design (RAL) revealed that positive control group, infusion in 1% and 2% dose did not have a significant difference with normal controls, that means allopurinol and both doses test give an effect to return the uric acid to normal conditions.Conclusion: The ripe Kersen's (Muntingia Calabura) fruit skin infusion provides a reduction effect on blood uric acid levels in the rats (Rattus Novergicus) that have been induced by caffeine. Concentration of infusion that reduced effect of blood uric acid levels in the rats are at 1% ( 1 g/ 200 gBW) and 2% (2 g/200 gBW). However, the reduction is not equivalent to the positive control of Allopurinol.

Abstract

Abstrak Murbei merupakan salah satu obat yang penting didalam pengobatan tradisional Cina. Murbei mengandung berbagai macam senyawa diantaranya fenol dan flavanoid yang umunya berfungsi sebagai antioksidan alami dan juga memiliki fungsi antikanker. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kadar fenolik, aktivitas antioksidan dan antikanker ekstrak batang murbei (Morus alba L.). Pembuatan ekstrak dilakukan dengan cara maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol. Penetapan kadar fenolik menggunakan reagen Folin-Ciocalteu, pengujian aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode ABTS dan pengujian aktivitas antikanker menggunakan metode MTT terhadap sel kanker WIDR dan sel vero. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan kadar total fenolik ekstrak batang murbei sebesar 35,9%. Nilai aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak batang murbei adalah  83,18 µg/mL. Aktivitas antikanker pada sel WIDR menunjukkan nilai IC50 71,24 µg/ml dan pada sel vero memiliki nilai IC50 154,241 µg/ml. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol batang murbei (Morus alba L.) memilki aktivitas antioksidan yang kuat dan berpotensi sebagai antikanker alami yang bekerja selektif terhadap sel kanker. Kata kunci : Murbei (Morus alba L.), batang, IC50, antioksidan, antikanker Antioxydant and anticancer effect of murberry (Morus alba L.) stem extract in vitro Abstract Mulberry is one of the important medicines in traditional Chinese medicine. Determination of phenolic levels using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, testing of antioxidant activity using the ABTS method and testing of anticancer activity using the MTT method against WIDR cancer cells and vero cells. The test results showed total phenolic levels of mulberry stem extract amounted to 35.9%. The antioxidant activity value of mulberry stem extract was 83.18 µg / mL. Anticancer activity in WIDR cells showed IC50 values 71.24 µg / ml and vero cells had IC50 values 154.224 µg / ml. It can be concluded that the ethanol extract of mulberry stem (Morus alba L.) has a strong antioxidant activity and has the potential as a natural anticancer that works selectively against cancer cells. Keywords: Mulberry (Morus alba L.), stem extract, IC50, antioxidant, anticancer
