Abstract

Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing menjadi tantangan tersendiri bagi pembelajarnya, seperti halnya cara pengucapan (pronunciation). Pronunciation merupakan salah satu mata kuliah dasar ketrampilan yang menjadi skill awal untuk kemampuan berbicara (speaking) dan kemampuan mendengarkan (listening). Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bermaksud untuk mengembangkan modul pembelajaran mata kuliah pronunciation berbasis kontekstual agar lebih mudah dipahami oleh mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D) dengan pendekatan kontekstual. Pendekatan ini merupakan pendekatan yang mengkaitkan materi pembelajaran dengan konteks dunia nyata yang dihadapi mahasiswa sehari-hari. Hasil akhir dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa modul pembelajaran pronunciation berbasis kontekstual memiliki kriteria valid, praktis, dan efektif. Selain itu, dari hasil uji lapangan menunjukkan bahwa bahwa terdapat pengaruh antara penerapan pembelajaran menggunakan modul pronunciation berbasis kontekstual terhadap peningkatan kemampuan pronunciation mahasiswa dari rata-rata nilai pretest 60 menjadi 83 setelah diterapkannya modul pembelajaran berbasis kontekstual sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa modul tersebut efektif dan layak diterapkan.

Abstract

English is not only considered as obligation course but also it is now a need course. Therefore all university students including non-English department must have English course to prepare themselves facing globalization and industrial era. As the result, it is salient to know what problems they are facing in learning English. So the lecturers are expected to be able to improve their ability in achieving the goals in learning English. This study is aimed to investigate what kinds of problem faced by non-English department students in learning English. This study belongs to descriptive quantitative research method. The data were gained by observing and giving questionnaire to the non-English department students. The result shows that non-English department students mostly find difficulties in almost English skills such as speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Therefore it is needed more efforts for lecturers to teach non-English department students well by selecting the appropriate teaching methods.

Abstract

In 2023, the media in the process of learning English is very important. This is evidenced by a needs analysis with 26 students and teachers of English class V . This paper aims to investigate the needs of students and also find out the results of scrabble games on transportation, professions, weather and seasons. This study used the Borg & Gall Research and Development (R&D) model. It used several steps including Research & Information Gathering, Develop the initial form of the product, Revise the product, Product testing, Final product revision. The research subjects were 26 fifth grade students at SDN Gading Kasri Malang. This study found that scrabble games are valid in language (92%) and media (97%) and suitable for use as complementary media on transportation, profession, weather and season from the satisfaction questionnaire about this product the percentage is around 14% agree and 84% strongly agree. Finally, this scrabble game is suitable for use as a complement to material on transportation, professions, weather and seasons for fifth grade elementary school students.
