Symbolic Meaning of Buka Luwur: a Historical and Cultural Study of Sunan Kudus Grave Moh Rosyid

Abstract

This article describes the symbolic meaning of Luwur (a covering cloth) of the grave of Sunan Kudus, the first preacher of Kudus in the annual tradition of Buka Luwur (replacement with new Luwur every month of Muharam/Sura). The tradition is performed by the Foundation Administrator of Mosque, Menara, and Sunan Kudus Grave (YM3SK) together with the residents of Kauman, Kudus, Central Java. The data of this study were obtained from observation, interview, and reference investigation with a qualitative descriptive analysis. The research result showed that the luwur of Sunan Kudus grave behind al-Aqsha Menara Mosque assigns various symbolic meanings. The event of Buka Luwur tradition is performed in every first to tenth of Sura/Muharam month, through the distribution of Asura porridge and jangkrik rice to the residents of Kauman village, Islamic art performance, learning about Islamic New Year (Muharram), and replacement of the old Luwur with the new one. The motif of Luwur consists of jasmine, unthuk banyu, kompol, and wiru, which symbolize honor to Sunan Kudus. The tradition has been conserved to honor the traces of dakwah of Sunan Kudus. Artikel ini menjelaskan makna simbolis dari Luwur makam Sunan Kudus, da'i pertama di Kudus dalam tradisi tahunan Buka Luwur (penggantian Luwur baru setiap bulan Muharam/Sura). Tradisi tersebut dilakukan oleh Pengurus Yayasan Masjid, Menara, dan Makam Sunan Kudus (YM3SK) bersama warga Desa Kauman, Kecamatan Kota, Kudus, Jawa Tengah. Data penelitian ini berasal dari observasi, wawancara dan investigasi referensi dengan analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Luwur makam Sunan Kudus di belakang Masjid Al-Aqsha Menara memiliki berbagai makna simbolis. Rangkaian acara tradisi Buka Luwur dilakukan setiap bulan Sura/Muharam pertama hingga kesepuluh, yaitu pembagian bubur Asura dan nasi jangkrik kepada warga desa Kauman, pertunjukan atraksi Seni Islam, program pengajaran Tahun Baru Islam (Muharram), dan penggantian Luwur lama dengan yang baru. Motif Luwur terdiri dari melati, unthuk banyu, kompol, dan wiru, yang memiliki makna simbolis penghormatan terhadap Sunan Kudus. Tradisi tersebut dilestarikan untuk menghormati jejak-jejak dakwah Sunan Kudus.

Abstract

The purpose of writing is analyzing the needs to be formed immediately National Commision Disability by the state. The effect has not yet been formed, constitution implementation not well implemented by organizer library, government offices and campus library in Kudus city, central Java. The data are obtained from literature review of written materials on library and Law No 8 of 2016 on People with Disabilities, Law No 14 of 2008 on the Openness of Public Information, and Law No 43 of 2017 onLibraries. Data were analyzed in descriptive qualitative method. Library as a public space should provide facilities people with disabilities. However, the implementation of the Law on People with Disability is difficult because the supporting instruments including 8 government regulations (PP), 2 presidential regulations (Perpres), Minister of Social affairs; regulation (Permensos), and the National Disability Commission has not yet been realized. Once the supporting regulations are established, then the Openness of Public Information Act is also implemented. It is our task to guard the establishment of the Laws and regulations. National Commission Disability urgently formed.

Abstract

This article discussed the goal of impact keris for Samin pioneer (botoh). Data collection done by interview, observation, and literature was analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach. As the result, Keris is magical objects owned by a certain person in between pioneer Samin in Kudus inheritance from ancestors. Ancestral pioneer Samin message Keris to help by magic treatment and stay a way from arrogant nature. Keris encourage to be brave in their dynamic life. Negative effect came from it if not well controlled will make the owner have an arrogant habit. There are value on the benefits at keris as medium traditional treatment for Samin community.

Abstract

Human rights is the right of every one is right education. This paper observes the right of children of Samin community in Kudus especially in the field of education. Samin community is chosen for its uniqueness in maintaining their anchestor’s teaching not to go to formal school, as a way of resistance against the Dutch colonial government, despite the fact that today some of Samin community go to school and obey government regulation. The main focus of this research is the realization Government Regulation Kudus (Perda) to the required learning 12 years. Method of collecting data conducted through literature, interview, and direct observation in the field. The analysis data used is qualitative descriptive. the results of the research are (1) the required learning 12 years for community Samin did not happen, (2) Persuasive approach is important to encourage Samin community to send their children to formal education as stated by Government Regulation (PP) No 48 Year 2008 Article 15 (1), (2), and (3) Government Regulation Kudus (Perda) to the required learning 12 years must be evaluated by Ombudsman Commision.

Abstract

This article describes the changes in lifestyle Samin community in Kudus Central Java. Data collection by interview, observation, and literature was analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach. Result, Samin is Javanese ethnic community the originally driven by Ki Samin Surosentiko against invaders in Blora, Central Java. Its existence extends to city Kudus, Central Java until now. Samin community in Kudus changes in lifestyle. The result (1) follow a lifestyle now and (2) become urban worker, and (3) some are no longer farmers. This is due to fulfilling a lifestyle consequently experienced degradation quantity and quality. Triggered by don’t understand the teachings Samin, don’t identity Samin.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools as institutions that cadre scientists (ulama) to understand Islamic science for the provision of society. However, socializing also requires expertise as a source of livelihood, so students are also equipped with skills with real daily practice (entrepreneurship). The problem in this study, namely how to divide activities between study time and work at the Tahfidz al-Islah Islamic Boarding School, and where is the point of vulnerability to violations of the Child Protection Act. The purpose of this study was to describe learning at the Tahfidz Al-Ishlah Islamic Boarding School in Kadilangu Village, Trangkil District, Pati Regency, Central Java. Data was obtained in 2020 with interviews, observations, and literature which were analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results of the study found that the pesantren for prospective al-Quran memorizers provided knowledge about fiqh, interpretation of the Koran, and entrepreneurship facilitated by Islamic boarding schools. Compensation obtained by students in addition to knowledge is free of charge for education, boarding, and meals. Entrepreneurship education is taught from an early age as an effort to cultivate the character of an entrepreneurial spirit and train students' independence. In its application there are no violations of the Child Protection Act.

Abstract

Among historical sites in Kudus, Central Java is Langgar Bubrah, in which laying lingga and yoni, two symbols often found in a Hindu temple. Some archeologists consider this as proof of Sunan Kudus’s tolerance. This paper analyzes the preservation of religious sites and their relation to promote religious tolerance. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation analysis is descriptive qualitative. The result shows that Sunan Kudus promoted tolerance among his people by preserving several old traditions such as preventing. However, the Kudus Regency Government has optimized tried to treat it, so it needs to be scheduled to rescue cultural objects, namely restoration, revitalization, and facilitating cultural facilities and infrastructure in the form of performance spaces. Kudus local parliament members also need to realize the budget politics in the regional budget, which favors cultural preservation by providing funding for cultural advancement based on investment considerations. The research to contribution for development archeology associated with culture heritage Hindu in Kudus pra-Islam.
