Abstract

This paper presents a design and development of 8/6 switched reluctance motor for small electric vehicle using analytical method. The absent of permanent magnet, inherent fault tolerance capabilities, simple and robust construction make this motor become more attractive for small electric vehicle application such as electric scooter and go-kart. The switched reluctance motor is modelled using analytical formula in designing process. Later, the designed model is analyzed using ANSYS RMxprt software. In order to achieve 5kW power rating and to match with the design requirement, the switched reluctance motor model has been analyzed using RMxprt tools for the preliminary parameters design process. This tools is able to predict the output performance of motor in term of speed, flux linkage characteristic, output torque and efficiency.

Abstract

The Direct Torque Control (DTC) of induction machine has received wide acceptance in many Variable Speed Drive (VSD) applications due to its simple control structure and excellent torque dynamic control performances. However, the conventional DTC which employs a two-level inverter and hysteresis controllers produces two major drawbacks, namely, larger torque ripple and variable switching frequency, which might produce a very high switching frequency (or power loss), particularly at a very low speed operation. This paper highlight the common methods used to provide the constant switching frequency for DTC drives for Induction Motor that able to minimize the power losses and reduced the torque ripple.

Abstract

This research analyses the noise and vibration characteristics of permanent magnet motors (PMM) with the electromagnetic characteristics, with an emphasis on high-speed motor segmented closed slot stator. The interaction between the stator, rotor, and magnets can cause a vibration that results in the loud sound due to the high magnetic energy. Even if there aren't many vibrations to contend with, the fluctuation of motor vibrations causes more serious harm. The studies covered slotted stator, closed slot stator, and segmented with closed slot stator. The objective is to analyze the cogging torque relation towards vibration and the effect of natural frequency at steady-state behavior of the structure. ANSYS finite element analysis (FEA) is used to generate electromagnetic analysis performance whilst ANSYS mechanical used to simulate the modal and harmonic analysis at the stator tooth tips surface to define the structure when the steady-state condition under vibrational stimulation. Anticipation on this work shows, the lowest cogging torque produce less radiated sound. Thus, the result indicates the cogging torque profiles had good agreement with the equivalent radiated power level (ERPL) waterfall diagram.
