Abstract

Two-way communication, involving the processes of listening and responding, plays a crucial role in social interaction and education, particularly for early childhood. At the age of 4, children's communication abilities begin to develop more actively and complexly, affecting their language, emotional, and cognitive development. Effective communication from parents and educators, especially through active listening and appropriate responses, helps children develop language skills and strong emotional attachment. By giving full attention when children speak and responding empathetically, adults can build the child's confidence and motivation to learn. Furthermore, good two-way communication contributes to the child's social development, enhancing their ability to interact with others and fostering critical thinking. Optimal communication strategies, such as active listening, open-ended questions, and positive reinforcement, have proven effective in stimulating the social and cognitive development of young children.

Abstract

At the beginning of the 20th century, Indonesia had an education system that was secular and traditional. Secular education is an educational system established by the Dutch East Indies government. In this system, only general knowledge is taught. Meanwhile, traditional education is an educational system founded by ulama, where in this system only religious knowledge is taught. This shows that education in Indonesia has not achieved its true goals. The aims of education include enlightening the life of the nation and developing the whole person, namely a person who is virtuous, has good morals, has knowledge, skills, physical and spiritual health, a stable and independent personality, and a sense of social and national responsibility. KH. Ahmad Dahlan, the founder of Muhammadiyah, attended because of his disagreement with the education system created by the Dutch East Indies government. Therefore KH. Ahmad Dahlan offers an education system that collaborates the secular education system with the traditional education system.

Abstract

This writing aims to analyze the influence of storytelling techniques on improving the ability to listen and understand stories in children aged 5-6 years. The development of language skills in early childhood is greatly influenced by the process of social interaction and appropriate stimulation, one of which is through interactive and interesting storytelling techniques. The writing method used is library research with a qualitative approach, reviewing various scientific literature related to storytelling techniques and the development of children's listening skills. The results of the study show that storytelling techniques involving verbal expression, gestures, intonation, and supporting media such as pictures or dolls, significantly increase focus, understanding, and the ability to listen to children's stories. This finding is in line with Vygotsky's language development theory which emphasizes the importance of social interaction and is in accordance with the principles of education in Islam which value storytelling methods as a means of learning. It is recommended that this storytelling technique be integrated consistently in early childhood learning by teachers and parents in order to support children's language and cognitive development optimally.
