Abstract

This research is descriptive qualitative research. The purpose of this study is to find out what difficulties are experienced by junior high school mathematics teachers in implementing online learning and solutions that can be applied to reduce these difficulties. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Lendah. The data sources are 4 mathematics teachers of SMP Negeri 1 Lendah. Data was collected by means of observation, interviews, and documentation.  The results showed that the difficulties of mathematics teachers in implementing online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic were the lack of understanding of IT, low student activity, insufficient cellphone ownership and unsupportive signals. In addition, solutions that can be done to reduce these difficulties include increasing teacher insight in the IT field, limited face-to-face learning and collaboration of all school members, teachers and students. Suggestions from this research are teachers must improve IT skills, schools must cooperate with parents, students must increase activeness in learning and researchers can use this research as a reference in research related to the effectiveness of online learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine (1) The extent of the tendency of students' interest in learning mathematics online. (2) To what extent the tendency of students' interest in learning mathematics towards the use of Zoom Meeting and Google Classroom. This research is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The research was conducted at SMP Kanisius Sumber Dukun with a sample of 30 students selected using Purposive Sampling technique. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The research instruments used were interview guidelines and interest questionnaires. While data analysis techniques using data triangulation include data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that (1) The tendency of students' interest in learning mathematics online is included in the high category with a percentage of 72.01%. (2) The tendency of students' interest in learning mathematics whose learning uses Zoom Meeting is included in the very high category with a percentage of 77.42%, while the learning interest of students whose learning uses Google Classroom is included in the very low category with a percentage of 22.58%. This means that the tendency of mathematics learning interest of Kanisius Sumber Junior High School students towards the use of Zoom Meeting is higher than Google Classroom.

Abstract

This qualitative research is a preliminary study of a 4-D model development research that aims to describe the basic problems, student characteristics, the formulation of learning outcomes, and specific learning goals as the initial stage of developing a high order thinking skills (HOTS) exercise bank based on 3N in Algebra. Research subjects at the analysis stage of student characteristics are all students taking Algebra courses in Mathematics Education Department Universitas Sarjanawiyata Tamansiswa for the 2019/2020 academic year. Data were collected using a literature study, observation, documentation. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively with the following steps: (1) preparing the data, (2) data coding, (3) searching for findings, (4) constructing the framework, and interpreting the data. The results of this study are: (1) Algebra learning centered on lecturers and students has difficulty solving non-routine problems, (2) there are only 1.59% of students who implemented to check the correctness of solutions in solving HOTS problems, (3) CPMK Algebra, and (4) formulation of specific learning goals. These results are used as a reference in the design stage of exercise bank development. Keywords: high order thinking, exercise bank, problem-solving.
