Abstract

Offices as one of the waste-producing locations have contributed to the volume. Challenges in waste management strategies differ between formal and non-formal institutions. Waste management needs a collaborative management strategy in its management. An effective waste management strategy as a solution to improve employee performance in implementing waste management regulations. This study aims to analyze Collaborative management with an office waste management strategy at the BPSDM Kemendagri Jakarta office. Collaborative management to manage environmental problems, especially waste generated from activities on weekdays. Waste management regulations need to be upgraded to become policies in the Ministry of Home Affairs offices. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with literature review and survey techniques. Collaborative management in office waste management is not optimal. a policy proposal for a waste management strategy and for responding to contextual changes involving the problem of formal government office waste. This finding has implications for being a policy proposal for a waste management strategy and for responding to contextual changes involving the problem of formal government office wastesustainable.

Abstract

The Sub Watershed of Cibabat is one of the rivers included in the Upstream Citarum River, in Cimahi City. This industrial sector which consists of 36 different industries is among the highest contributors of pollution load. Aim: This study analyzed the pollutant loads entering the Cibabat River in existing conditions and projections from the industrial sector. Methodology and Results:  The pollutant loads, emitted from the industrial sector was used to calculate the discharged data, concentration, number of employees and products, as well as emission factors (EF). In 2018, the industrial sector pollution load was 3,518.82 kg/day TSS, 8,231.83 kg/day BOD and 14,467.68 kg/day COD. However, it increased to 3,885.06 kg/day TSS, 9,088.61 kg/day BOD and 15,973.48 kg/day COD during this project year. Conclusion, significance and impact study: The pollution loads on Cibabat River emitted from the industrial sector, which increases yearly by 2% was be reduced by developing wastewater treatment communal for industries.

Abstract

The rapid population growth in the region has led to challenges in managing household waste. Local governments must consider waste treatment infrastructure and landfill space availability when providing services. Aim: This study aims to evaluate the quality of services in household waste management in Sinjai District, Indonesia. Methodology and results: This study employs a mixed-method analysis utilizing the Delphi and SERVQUAL techniques. The research was conducted in Sinjai District, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, with a sample size of 397 respondents. The findings indicate that waste management within the Tondong landfill service coverage area in Sinjai Regency is relatively effective in reducing waste generation. According to the SERVQUAL analysis, apart from the tangible dimension, all other dimensions exhibit a negative GAP score, highlighting the need for improvements in each area. Conclusions, Significance, and impact of The Study: Waste management in Sinjai District, particularly in terms of composting and waste bank initiatives, faces major challenges in infrastructure, technology, and public awareness. Landfilling and composting methods are widely applied, but their efficiency needs to be improved. In the system, collection and transportation remain constrained by limited resources, while recycling requires community participation supported by education and wider access to recycling facilities. An integrated approach, involving the government, community, and private sector, is needed in Sinjai Regency to enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of waste management.

Abstract

This study investigates communal toilet models as an alternative sanitation soliution for densely populated urban settlements and their potential contribution to sustainable development targets related to safe sanitation. In many high-density settlements, limited land availability and infrastructure constraints prevent households from having private sanitation facilities, leading communities to rely on shared sanitation systems. This resarch applies a mixed-method approach combining quantitative and qualitative data. Primary data were collected from four sub districts in Bandung, Wes Java, Indonesia, involving 40 household respondents and 100 key informarmants during the period 2024-2025. Additional information on social, economic, and demographic characteristics was obtained through structured questionnaires. The analysis evaluates communal toilet construction models that consider land availability and water supply conditions, as well as two waste treatment scenarios designed for facilities serving up to 120 users. The results indicate that the second scenario provides greater flexibility in spatial adaptation and more manageable waste treatment for dense settlements. The findings emphasize that appropriate design, effective waste management, accessibility, and affordability are essential factors for improving sanitation services in high-density urban areas. This study highlights the importance of adaptive communal sanitation systems as a practical approach to expanding sanitation access and supporting sustainable urban development in densely populated settlements.

Abstract

Pengelolaan limbah organik menjadi salah satu aspek penting dalam upaya menjaga keberlanjutan lingkungan, terutama di era ketika konsep ekonomi sirkular semakin ditekankan. Di lingkungan perkantoran, limbah organik kerap dianggap sebagai bagian kecil dari total timbulan sampah, padahal jika dikelola dengan tepat, jenis limbah ini dapat memberikan manfaat ekologis maupun ekonomi. Kabupaten Sinjai, sebagai salah satu daerah yang terus mendorong penerapan praktik ramah lingkungan, menghadapi tantangan dan peluang dalam mengoptimalkan pengelolaan limbah organik di area perkantoran. Tahap Metode utama yang diterapkan dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan ini yaitu sosialisasi/ edukasi dan praktik langsung/ demonstrasi teknis. Melalui pendekatan ekonomi sirkular, limbah organik tidak lagi dipandang sebagai bahan sisa, melainkan sebagai sumber daya yang dapat diolah kembali untuk mendukung produktivitas dan mengurangi tekanan terhadap lingkungan. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan dengan mengarahkan pengolahan sampah menjadi pupuk kompos kepada tenaga kontrak di Kabupaten Sinjai, Makassar. Kegiatan ini penting dilakukan agar ada nilai manfaat dari sampah tanaman sebagai pupuk yang baik bagi tanaman, menghemat biaya perawatan tanaman juga menambah pengetahuan dan keterampilan. Pendekatan ini diharapkan mampu mendorong terciptanya sistem pengelolaan limbah yang efisien, berkelanjutan, serta berkontribusi pada peningkatan kualitas lingkungan kerja maupun masyarakat secara luas.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning (PBL) model in enhancing student engagement and literacy-based creative thinking skills in an Environmental Chemistry course. The novelty of this research lies in integrating a structured literature review project as a core PBL activity to simultaneously strengthen academic literacy and foster creative thinking within environmental chemistry contexts. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design with a mixed-method approach conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The participants were 33 third-semester students. Data were collected through classroom engagement observations, learning achievement tests, literature review project assessments, and documentation. Quantitative data were analyzed using Likert scales and percentage achievement indicators. The findings revealed a significant improvement in both student engagement and literacy-based creative thinking skills from Cycle I to Cycle II. Therefore, literature-integrated PBL is an effective pedagogical strategy to enhance both the learning process and student outcomes in Environmental Chemistry courses. Further research is recommended to investigate its long-term effectiveness, broader applicability across disciplines, and potential integration with emerging learning technologies.
