Abstract

Abstract Problems: In early December 2020, the public was shocked by the shooting of six members of the Islamic Defenders Front Organization (FPI) at the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road. The case attracted media attention, so it became the main topic in the news. Two of the media that intensely reported on the case were Kompas.com and Republika.co.id. In their reporting, the two media have different points of view so that it is interesting to investigate further. Purpose: to find out how the online media Kompas.com and Republika.co.id carried out the construction on their reports about the shootings of six FPI soldiers. Methodology: This study uses the framing analysis method of the Robert N. Entman model. Framing analysis is used to find out how reality is constructed by the media. In what ways and techniques are events emphasized and highlighted. Is there a part in the news that is omitted, missed, or even hidden in the news? Results/Findings: The research findings show that the construction constructed by Kompas.com is inconsistent between the early and mid-period, in which Kompas.com was initially a police informant, but later switched to viewing this case as a humanitarian tragedy. Meanwhile, Republika.co.id tends to be more consistent in the construction it builds, where from the start, Republika has favored the FPI and denounced unlawful killings as a humanitarian tragedy. Paper Type: field research Keywords: FPI, unlawful killing, social construction, framing analysis

Abstract

Chinese and indigenous people in Kalipasir have lived together for centuries. Although they experienced various social changes due to changes in spatial planning, job opportunities, and cultural recognition, they still live in harmony by negotiating its identity. This study will reveal the factors driving the negotiation of the identity of the people of Kampung Kalipasir; the ways of the identity negotiation in Kalipasir Village take place; and the impact of identity negotiation on people's attitudes to social change. Applying qualitative research, this study reveals that identity negotiations are driven by factors of cultural diversity, economic equality, and the presence of a common enemy. The form of identity negotiation that occurs is manifested in three behaviors, namely tolerance, prioritizing togetherness, and maintaining tradition. The consequences of this identity negotiation led to a multicultural attitude, prioritizing deliberation, and rejecting exclusivity. This finding shows that a multicultural society can develop in response to social change without having to become a hybrid society by negotiating a tolerant identity and building togetherness while still maintaining traditional values.

Abstract

This research aims to criticize and justify the subject position, object position, and reader position placed in the news text of the female student femicide case in Pandeglang Regency in the Radar Banten report. This research uses the Sara Mills model of discourse analysis using a critical paradigm, through a qualitative approach. This research was conducted using purposive sampling. The results of this research are that female victims of femicide are positioned as objects of discrimination and the subject is the storyteller, namely Radar Banten. The subject position has the freedom to tell the event but also interpret the various actions that build up the event. The position of the reader in the news text is more directed towards male readers. There are two ways to position the reader, with the mediation aspect and the cultural code aspect. The representation of female victims of femicide in Pandeglang Regency in Radar Banten's reporting is influenced by patriarchal ideology. Women are considered a marginal group that experiences injustice because it weakens women's position. Women in this news are stereotyped and labeled as being weak, helpless, and wrong.

Abstract

Digital transformation has significantly impacted various aspects of life, particularly in communication. In today's digital era, many universities have adopted digital learning through Learning Management System (LMS) platforms, shifting from conventional communication methods to digital ones. As this evolution unfolds, digital communication competence has become essential for students to communicate effectively, even within digital media like LMS. This research analyzes and assesses how digital communication competence influences students' learning motivation. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, utilizing an explanatory research design with a sequential explanatory framework. Data sources were gathered through observations, interviews, and the distribution of questionnaires. Interview participants were selected through purposive sampling. Quantitative data analysis was conducted using SmartPLS 3.0, supplemented by qualitative analysis. Data credibility was tested through source triangulation. The findings reveal that digital communication competence significantly impacts students' learning motivation, with an effect size of 69.7%. Additionally, the results support Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) theory, which posits that digitalization can create new communication patterns facilitated by digital media. Recommendations include encouraging students to enhance their digital communication skills, while universities are urged to improve their LMS to achieve better overall performance continuously.
