Abstract

This experiment was done at 292 head of Japanese black bull at Kagoshima and Miyazaki Prefectural Experimental Stations Japan to find out the relationship between ultrasonic estimates of carcass traits and body measurements as one of criteria to select Japanese black bull. The carcass traits of 20 months of age were predicted using the ultrasonic machine. The body dimensions were measured at the end of performance test (12 months of age) and 16 months of age. The ultrasonic evaluation techniques were used to estimate Musculus Longissimus thoracis area between 6–7th and 12-13th ribs (MLTA6-7 and MLTA12- 13), Subcutaneous Fat Thickness (SFT), Intermuscular Fat Thickness (IMFT), Rib Thickness (RT) and Marbling Score (MS). Body measurements were taken on body weight (BW), withers height (WH), hip height (HH), body length (BL), chest girth (CG), chest depth (CD), chest width (CW), rump length (RL), hip width (HW), thurl width (TW) and pin bone width (PBW). Chest girth, chest width and chest depth at 12 and 16 months of age were showed the highest significant and positive correlations among the other body dimensions with ultrasonic estimated of carcass traits at 20 months of age. The ratio of contribution to predict MLTA6-7, MLTA12-13 and SFT at 20 months of age using the body dimensions at 12 months of age were higher than those of 16 months of age.Keywords: Keywords: carcass traits, body dimension, ultrasonic estimate, performance test, japanese black bull, correlation

Abstract

ABSTRAK Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan informasi tentang kualitas dan kuantitas sifat karkas sapi Bali pada umur 12 dan 18 bulan menggunakan ultrasonografi. Sifat-sifat karkas yang diukur adalah tebal lemak dengan subkutan subcutaneous fat thickness (SFT), tebal lemak intermuskuler intermuscular fat thickness (IMFT), tebal tulang rusuk rib thickness (RT), luas otot Longissimus dorsi Musculus longissimus thoracis area (MLTA) serta sebaran marbling marbling score (MS) diantara tulang rusuk ke-6 dan 7 pada 28 ekor pedet Bali jantan umur 12 dan 18 bulan. Penelitian ini dilakukan di pusat pembibitan dan pemurnian sapi Bali di desa Tirong, kecamatan Palakka, kabupaten Bone, Sulawesi Selatan. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa kualitas dan kuantitas sifat karkas pedet jantan sapi Bali umur 12 dan 18 bulan di kabupaten Bole masih sangat rendah (MLTA: 17,5 cm2 dan 22,1 cm2; MS : 0,14 dan 0,22; SFT : 0,25 mm dan 0,31 mm; IMFT : 1,13 mm dan 1,09 mm: RT : 2,04 mm dan 2,21 mm) dan pada umur tersebut belum dapat dilakukan seleksi pejantan berdasarkan sifat karkas.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to determine the allele frequency of IGF-1 in Kacang and Peranakan Ettawa goats in Indonesia. The DNA samples were extracted from the blood of 105 heads of goats and collected from the South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi provinces. The IGF-1 target was amplified using the PCR-RFLP method. Two allele variants (A and B) and three genotypes of the IGF-1 gene (AA, AB, and BB) have been identified in the local goat population. Allele frequencies of IGF-1 were A (0.81) and B (0.19) in the total population of local goats. Allele A is the most common allele in both the Kacang and Peranakan Ettawa goat populations, with the highest frequency found in the Kacang population (0.87). The most common genotype is genotype AA, with the highest frequency in the Kacang population (0.75). The observed and expected heterozygosity were 0.276 and 0.303, respectively. The population of local goats in these regions was in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The conclusion of this research is that the IGF-1 gene in local goats in the Sulawesi region is polymorphic and this diversity information can be used for association studies with growth traits, litter size, and twinning rate.(Polimorpisme gen IGF-1 pada populasi kambing lokal Indonesia yang dipelihara oleh peternak kecil di daerah Sulawesi)ABSTRAK. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui frekuensi alel IGF-1 pada kambing Kacang dan Peranakan Ettawa di Indonesia. Sampel DNA diambil dari darah 105 ekor kambing dan dikumpulkan dari Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan dan Sulawesi Barat. Target IGF-1 diamplifikasi menggunakan metode PCR-RFLP. Dua varian alel (A dan B) dan tiga genotipe gen IGF-1 (AA, AB, dan BB) telah diidentifikasi pada populasi kambing lokal. Frekuensi alel IGF-1 adalah A (0,81) dan B (0,19) pada total populasi kambing lokal. Alel A merupakan alel yang paling banyak ditemukan baik pada populasi kambing Kacang maupun kambing Peranakan Ettawa, dengan frekuensi tertinggi terdapat pada populasi Kacang (0,87). Genotipe yang paling umum adalah genotipe AA, dengan frekuensi tertinggi pada populasi Kacang (0,75). Heterozigositas yang diamati dan diharapkan adalah 0,276 dan 0,303, masing-masing. Populasi kambing lokal di wilayah ini berada dalam keseimbangan Hardy-Weinberg. Kesimpulan yang dihasilkan adalah bahwa gen IGF-1 pada kambing lokal yang dipelihara oleh peternak di wilayah Sulawesi bersifat polimorfik dan informasi keragaman ini dapat digunakan untuk studi asosiasi dengan sifat pertumbuhan, litter size dan kelahiran kembar.
