Abstract

The idea of a pesantren that accommodates philosophy in its curriculum seems to be a strange one still. The data in Direktorat Madrasah Diniyah dan Pondok Pesantren (The Directorate of Islamic Education and Pesantren) doesn't mention a kind of such pesantren whatsoever. The existence of Pesantren Luhur Baitul Hikmah changes that impression, so it is important to reveal the background of this pesantren and how philosophy is taught in it. To fulfill these goals, this research is designed to be qualitative that collects its data by observations, interviews and documentations and analyzes them by using Miles and Hubermann's technique. This research found that Pesantren Luhur Baitul Hikmah became so accommodative to philosophy because it was originally a discussion group that evolved to be a pesantren. Philosophy was taught there by using three methods inspired by Qur'anic verses 96:1-5. First, the bandongan teaching method through Arabic philosophical texts. Second, the discussion method comprises weekly discussion and accidental discussion. Third, the learning-through-writing method which has already become a cultural habit there due to the exemplary of the kiai, the proliferation of social media, and the more affordable printing costs.

Abstract

Qurrah al-Aṣfiyā’ ‘alā Sharḥ Hidāyah al-Adhkiyā’ is a book written by Kiai Zainullah from Malang. The book explains the teachings and daily practices of sufism. However, the writer seems to have inserted some distinctive messages of the Naqshbandiyya tariqa. Therefore, this article aims to investigate and uncover those Naqshabandi contents. The analytical techniques used here are content analysis and intertextual study. After a deep investigation and analysis, this article concludes that there are three distinctive explanations of Naqshbandiyya tariqa: first, the discussion regarding the first chain of transmission (sanad) and the authority of Naqshbandiyya tariqa; second, the Naqshbandiyya’s chain of transmission, especially in Madura island, which ultimately reaches the author of Qurrah al-Asfiyā; thirdly, the discussion regarding the priority of silent remembrance (dhikr khafī) which is a typical remembrance technique of Naqshbandiyya tariqa.

Abstract

Perundungan di lingkungan pesantren adalah fenomena yang menjadi perhatian banyak kalangan, terutama sejak jatuhnya banyak korban tingkat ekstrem berupa meninggalnya korban. Berbagai upaya telah dilakukan agar kasus-kasus perundungan di pesantren bisa dihilangkan atau setidaknya bisa dikurangi. Dari pihak pemerintah, upaya itu terlihat dengan keluarnya SK Dirjen Pendis Nomor 1263 Tahun 2024 tentang Pengasuhan Ramah Anak di Lembaga Pendidikan yang Terintegrasi dengan Asrama. Kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah upaya dari pihak non-pemerintah untuk meningkatkan kesadaran dan semangat aksi pencegahan dan penanganan kasus perundungan di pesantren. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah: (1) terlaksananya kegiatan sosialisasi pencegahan dan penanganan kasus perundungan di lingkungan Pondok Pesantren Sirojul Ulum as-Sarqowi Gondanglegi Malang; (2) meningkatnya kesadaran pentingnya program anti perundungan yang berkelanjutan di lingkungan pondok pesantren, khususnya Pondok Pesantren Sirojul Ulum as-Sarqowi Gondanglegi Malang. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan dengan tiga tahap, yaitu tahap persiapan dan konsolidasi, tahap pelaksanaan dan tahap evaluasi. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah terselenggaranya sosialisasi pencegahan perundungan. Materi yang disampaikan disajikan secara menarik dan mudah dipahami oleh seluruh peserta, sehingga diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesadaran santri akan pentingnya menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang aman dan nyaman.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore the discussions of Fiqh within a Sufi book entitled Qurra al-Aṣfiyā’ ‘alā Sharh Hidāya al-Adhkiyā’ by Kiai Zainullah, Malang. Employing qualitative research design, this paper uses intertextual study as its analysis tool. The findings reveal that Kiai Zainullah incorporated four Fiqh topics in his work. These topics are 1) differing views among madhhab imams on the status of basmala, 2) the rulings on beautifying one’s voice when reciting the Qur’an, 3) the ruling on listening to women’s singing voice, and 4) the ruling on marriage versus celibacy in term of uzla. The implication of this research highlights the necessity of exploring the relationship between Fiqh and Sufism, especially the Fiqh discussions within a Sufi treatise, in a more creative framework rather than being solely confined to the paradigm of harmonization and alignment.

Abstract

Numerous studies have been conducted regarding the poems found in Burhān ad-Dīn az-Zarnūjī’s book entitled Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim, yet none of them specifically investigate a Persian poem within the book. Furthermore, the composition of this Persian poem, particularly in printed copies of Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim circulated in Indonesia, supposedly has errors in its encryption making them not easy to read and to translate literally. The purpose of this research is to uncover these encryption inaccuracies and to explore ways to accurately read and translate them, enabling the readers in Indonesia, especially readers in the pesantren community, to be aware of these encryption errors and to read them correctly. The research employs library research method, underpins a qualitative approach, and uses the analytical model offered by Merriam and Tisdell. This investigation has disclosed that nearly all printed versions of Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim contain wrong renditions of the Persian poem, with the exception of those printed in Istanbul and Karachi. The encryption errors consist of (1) inaccuracies in writing letters, (2) misplacements of spacing, and (3) errors in diacritical marks of vowels.
