Abstract

Coleus amboinicus (Lour) (torbangun) has been used traditionally as a breast milk stimulant, flavoring agent in many cuisines, and reported to possess many pharmacological values. The aim of this study was to explore the utility of the Pressurized Liquid Extraction (PLE) technique to identify the phytochemical contents of torbangun. In this study, total phenolic content and flavonoid in torbangun were determined using spectrophotometric method. The GC-MS analysis was used to identify the chemical constituents of torbangun, which was sequentially extracted with a wide range of solvent or solvent mixture from nonpolar-moderately polar and finally polar solvent. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents in the methanol extract of torbangun were 42.17±2.96 mg GAE/g and 11.20±0.58 mg QE/g, respectively. The identified chemical constituents in torbangun were sugar, hydrocarbon, ketone, terpenes, phenolics, fatty acid, fatty alcohol, steroids, alkaloids, and others, whereas the dominant constituents were phenolic compound, alkane, and sugar. In conclusion, this study demonstrated the effectiveness and rapid extraction of the PLE technique. Many valuable compounds in torbangun were extracted using gradual composition of solvent and were able to identify certain compounds in different polarities of solvents that are important in functional food preparation, pharmaceutical, and metabolomics research. Abstract

Copolymerization of cellulose from rice straw with acrylic acid and acrylamide produce biopolymer superabsorbent. Cellulose was purified from fat content by extraction with toluene:ethanol (2:1). Hemicelluloses and lignin were removal by using potassium hydroxide 5% and hydrogen peroxide 2% at alkaline pH. Cellulose yield obtained was 21.56%. FTIR spectra of lignin showed a loss of absorption at 1728 cm-1. Copolymerization was carried out at 65 C under nitrogen athmosphere. Initiator and cross linking agent used were potassium peroxodisulfate and N'N-methylene bis acrylamide. Superbasorben resulted from this experiment showed the water swelling capacity after 24 hour for the water, solution of 100 ppm of ammonium chloride, and urea respectively 387,11 g/g ; 193,47 g/g and 400,17 g/g.Keywords : superabsorbent, rice straw, swelling capacity

Abstract

Dayak onion bulbs are a plant originating from Kalimantan which has been used for generations to treat various diseases. This plant is quite easy to grow and develop in many places in Indonesia. The aims of the present study were to evaluate the antioxidant potential of the methanol extract of Dayak onion bulbs based on the total of the phenolic and flavonoids contents and also the antioxidant activity using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging ability, ferric reducing power and total antioxidant capacity. The results showed the total phenolic and flavonoid methanol extract of Dayak onion bulbs were 14.49 ± 1.42 mg GAE/g dry weight and 5.41 ± 1.01 mg QE/g dry weight, respectively. Antioxidant activity as measured by the DPPH, total antioxidant capacity, and ferric reduction assay with IC50 values of 16.95 ± 1.58 μg/mL, 24.22 ± 2.51 µg/mL, and 85.40 ± 16.88 µg/mL, respectively. These results suggest that the methanol extract of Dayak onion bulbs has potential bioactive compounds with good antioxidant activity and can be developed as an effective and safe source of natural compounds for functional food or herbal medicine.

Abstract

Sektor pertanian berperan besar dalam menjaga ketersediaan pangan nasional, namun praktik penggunaan pestisida kimia yang tidak terkontrol telah menimbulkan berbagai dampak buruk terhadap kesehatan manusia serta keseimbangan ekosistem. Sebagai bentuk inovasi ramah lingkungan, biopestisida berbahan alami menjadi pilihan yang lebih aman dan berkelanjutan untuk menekan serangan hama tanpa mencemari lingkungan. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, Program Studi Analisis Kimia melaksanakan kegiatan sosialisasi dan pelatihan pembuatan biopestisida berbahan ekstrak daun sukun (Artocarpus Altilis) di Saung Kelompok Tani Dewasa (KTD) Lemah Duhur, Desa Wisata Mulyaharja, Kota Bogor, pada 25 Oktober 2025. Kegiatan diikuti oleh 15 petani anggota KTD dengan tujuan menumbuhkan kemandirian petani dalam memproduksi pestisida alami yang aman dan ekonomis. Kegiatan ini diawali dengan penyampaian materi mengenai dampak negatif pestisida sintetis, diikuti dengan diskusi manfaat biopestisida serta praktik pembuatan dan penggunaannya di lahan pertanian. Peserta menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi dan mengungkapkan keinginan untuk mengganti pestisida kimia dengan biopestisida daun sukun, yang mudah dibuat dari bahan lokal dan lebih hemat biaya. Pelatihan ini diharapkan mampu memperkuat penerapan pertanian berkelanjutan di Mulyaharja, sekaligus mengurangi ketergantungan terhadap bahan kimia sintetis. Secara keseluruhan, kegiatan ini tidak hanya memberikan solusi praktis bagi pengendalian hama yang ramah lingkungan, tetapi juga mendukung pencapaian Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs) poin ke-12, yaitu konsumsi dan produksi yang bertanggung jawab.
