Abstract

In this work, a microstrip patch antenna with an inset feed and defected ground structure (DGS) is designed at the resonant frequency of 2.45 GHz. The antenna is designed on a FR-4 substrate with a dielectric constant, εr of 4.5, loss tangent, tan δ of 0.019 and thickness, h of 1.6 mm. The technique of DGS is used to avoid the use of additional circuits in the antenna to suppress the harmonics. By introducing a single and additional slots DGS at both ends on the antenna ground plane, the proposed microstrip patch antenna is able to suppress the higher order harmonics. The reflection coefficient, S11 is -38.75 dB at 2.45 GHz. The proposed antenna have suppressed the higher order harmonics effectively from -38.04 dB to -2.61 dB at 4.54 GHz and from -13.08 dB to -1.38 dB at 5.76 GHz. The prototype of the antenna is fabricated for the verification of the design. The simulated and measured results are found to be in a good agreement.

Abstract

In coordinated multipoint (CoMP) system, the cell-edge performance is improved by minimizing inter-cell interference (ICI) through coordination of resources. Additionally, the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has been introduced as a promising candidate to further enhance the throughput of next generation wireless communication systems. NOMA allows multiple users to access the wireless channel in the same bandwidth simultaneously, however at different transmit power. In joint transmission NOMA in CoMP (JT-NOMA-CoMP), multiple cells jointly transmit data to users using the same time-frequency resources, which significantly improves the system performance. In this paper, we present a low-complexity user clustering and resource allocation strategy in downlink JP-NOMA-CoMP system with multiple antenna. Based on computer simulation, we show that the proposed approach outperforms the conventional JP-OMA-CoMP and single antenna JP-NOMA-CoMP in terms of achievable sum rate.

Abstract

This paper contributes to the literature on voice-recognition in the context of non-English language. Specifically, it aims to validate the techniques used to present the basic characteristics of speech, viz. voiced and unvoiced, that need to be evaluated when analysing speech signals. Zero Crossing Rate (ZCR) and Short Time Energy (STE) are used in this paper to perform signal pre-processing of continuous Malay speech to separate the voiced and unvoiced parts. The study is based on non-real time data which was developed from a collection of audio speeches. The signal is assessed using ZCR and STE for comparison purposes. The results revealed that ZCR are low for voiced part and high for unvoiced part whereas the STE is high for voiced part and low for unvoiced part. Thus, these two techniques can be used effectively for separating voiced and unvoiced for continuous Malay speech.

Abstract

The principle of joint transmission coordinated multipoint with non-orthogonal multiple access (JT-CoMP-NOMA) is to allow multiple cells in the network to cooperatively transmit data to users using the same network resources in frequency and time domains. The approach would be beneficial in enhancing the system performance in the context of spectral efficiency. This paper presents the performance comparison of JT-CoMP-NOMA for several modulation schemes including QPSK, 16-QAM and 64 QAM in downlink transmission in the context of bit error rate. We conduct an investigation to compare the error performance of JT-CoMP-NOMA with NOMA system. Our simulation results demonstrate that the JT-CoMP-NOMA provides lower bit error rate compared to NOMA system.
