Abstract

Rattan is a material that widely found in Indonesia, especially in Borneo (Kalimantan). In the design, rattan is used as the main material for the product. The product was a furniture set for commercial building, especially cafe. It was designed based on the needs of commercial buildings development and considered as a good opportunity for commercial building product. The target market for this design is the middle-upper class in Kalimantan. The design was inspired by the floating market, which was a local culture of South Kalimantan and the icon of Banjarmasin. The design method adopts some steps of design thinking such as understanding, observe, frame and reframe, ideate, prototype, and test. The dynamic move is a concept that was adapted from the floating market in Kalimantan. The resulting products which are bench, stool, coffee table, and dining chair, show an innovative and dynamic shape which could give a movement impression.

Abstract

Samarinda is the capital city of East Borneo (East Kalimantan). It currently requires a place for Dayak Tribes artists to express themselves and to be an art center at the same time. This art center is also intended as an art appreciation and education facility, tourist destination, as well as become a new icon for Samarinda city. For this several reasons, the designer designed “Samarinda Dayak Tribes Art Center”. The purpose of this art center is to facilitate Dayak Tribes art activities and become a recreational place for local and foreign tourist in order to increase the local economic income. The design method is design thinking which includes some steps such as Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. Interior concept in the design aims to show the facility as a home for Dayak Tribes Art by using Rumah Lamin concept.

Abstract

Several groups of people was initiating to preserve traditional games and established a community called Kampoeng Dolanan. Kampoeng Dolanan is basically a community that preserves Indonesian traditional games in a unique way (adapting Ki Hajar Dewantara’s teaching method), also encourages people to participate on activities held by the community. However, Kampoeng Dolanan doesn’t have a proper space to facilitate their activities. This design project will provides space to educate, conserve, entertain, and also a place to appreciate traditional games. The design used human-centered design references and focused on community activities with the concept of KML, meaning ‘Introduce, Play, and Preserve’. The design concept is implemented in the space planning and organization, color scheme, material used for the interior elements inside the Omah Dolanan (the name of community’s house). Omah Dolanan itself is organized to accommodate the necessities and activities of the community. Moreover, the purpose of this house is to give people acknowledgement about Indonesian traditional games, also enlighten them about Kampoeng Dolanan at the same time.

Abstract

The study of the meaning of ritual and ceremonial space is closely related to cultural studies which studied philosophy or meaning of a cultural object. a meaning is formed by symbols, human activities, cultures, and so on. Space in terms of the Java strongly associated with their understanding of the place. A place in the Javanese tradition is understood as a characteristic of daily activities. The aim of this study is to determine the physical reality of Surakarta Palace for ritual and ceremonial activities, as well as knowing the meaning of which is formed from the interaction between ritual and ceremony with the physical reality of Surakarta Palace, using a qualitative research method and field research strategy. This study is expected to help the author and other researchers to do a study about ritual and ceremonial space in Surakarta Palace. The result of this research is the knowledge about a space that is empty if there are no human activities in it. When the room is filled with activities, it has a meaning.

Abstract

Children have high curiosity and creativity. Their curiosity and creativity can be directed in a positive way so that they can find their talent and interest earlier. Creativity can be channeled through art. The design provides education art center for children to try new things and improve their creativity at an early age. The design contains class facilities such as painting, clay, art paper, cake decoration, flower arrangement, batik, multipurpose class, and another facilities such as library, cafe, office, lobby and playing area. The concept of "Eduplay and Fun" creates a pleasant atmosphere and adapts the characteristics of each child. The concept is applied through the color, shape and size.

Abstract

Clans Tolaki and Wolio are two very prominent clans in Southeast Sulawesi island implement cultural value system when building a house to live in or homes to gather, the so-called cosmological natural divisions and division which refers to the body anlogi. Formation and function of the existing interior in Tolaki tribal house and tribal house Wolio is and should be maintained so that the ancestral culture does not disappear. Custom home at the time now many are not treated, so the meaning of the form and function of the interior tribes and tribal Wolio Tolaki no longer fully contain customary meaning as changes induced in ancestral times so when direkrontuksi is no such customary rules and regulations. Basics of notching custom home design and the meaning of the formation and function are the things that should be known of the two tribes and tribal tribes Tolaki Wolio through qualitative research methods. Notching custom home construction arrangement of these families is very evident in the distribution and pemaknaanya, so when building a house it seems clear that there is an analogy of the body is contained in either house of the arrangement and structure.

Abstract

Marriage needs to be prepared carefully because it only happens once in a lifetime. Many wedding needs that have to be prepared but usually the bride and groom do not have time in preparing these things. For that, a place that can facilitate the needs of the bride and groom is needed to make it easier for them in preparing their needs. The interior design of this Wedding Centre meets the main needs in preparation before the wedding such as boutique, salon, photo studio, event organizer room, and cafeteria. These facilities can be used by the prospective bride and groom and also general visitors. The theme of this design is the "gallery" that displays a simple impression by applying elegant colors. The amount of furniture used in this design is not that many so that the appearance of the wedding dress on display will be more prominent.

Abstract

Elderly house is a building that functioned as a shelter for the elderly man was being treated, cared for and given more attention. Numbers of elderly who do not consider the functional aspects and comfort make the elderly are reluctant to stay in elderly house. The purpose of this scheme is to provide seniors with atmosphere and design of the natural environment, safe, back to nature for the elderly and provide full facilities to serve the needs of the elderly. The concept of this design is applied to the familiarity of the layout, organization of space and furniture and adjacent groups. In addition, the combination of colors and materials also supports the concept of familiarity on St.Yosef elderly house. In St. Yosef between public spaces interconnected set, used together, and open to one another, this interior design benefits the elderly is to provide a means for the elderly where they can socialize with comfortable quarters feel feel like home.

Abstract

The disruptive era Indonesian has been facing nowadays has brought many changes and development which has impacted the economics and industrial fields. Indonesia's Government has came with a solution through creative economy council, which has responsiblity for 16 sub sectors, with fashion as the growing sector. In Surabaya, there is one UKM which succesfully evolve as an accessories artisans since 2012. As an owner, Riski Hapsari has vision and mission for teaching women as many as possible, especially housewives, so that they have an accessories crafting skill which has sell value. The obstacle which was facing right now is how could a single space accomodate artisan's activities in order to raise productivity, people's interest and society's appreciation with Human Centered Design approaching method which intergrate collaborative, educative, creative, collective and home based creative economy aspects. For that, training space is designed as a solution to the obstacle. This training space offers Sharing House concept, which includes room for training, learning, selling and communicating for the artisans and housewives in order to create a creative and positive activity which collaborate and mutual sharing as a big family. The main reason of the designing is to give a chance to housewives to developing a profitable skill, which make Koleksikikie is better known and create digital economy ecosystem in Surabaya. The implementation of this Sharing House concept creates an activity space which includes arctistic making space, collaboration space, beads gallery, brainstorming space, creative garden, photo studio, book corner, office, sirculation area/parking lot, security pos, beads store and supporting space.

Abstract

Y.B. Mangunwijaya is known from his architectural and interior designed with emphasis in wastu citra, a design that fulfill the function of the building also the beauty which is created with the truth. Among of his works, the dominant of his design are the worship spaces. Santa Perawan Maria di Fatima church; interior relief in Panti Semedi chapel; Santa Maria Assumpta church; Angin Mammiri seminary; Santo Albertus Magnus Jetis church and chapel are chosen as the sample. This study used qualitative methods. All data were found with literature studies and interviews. The function of this study are to know the concept background and the application of Y.B. Mangunwijaya’s concept in this worship space. The results of this study indicate that the interior design style of worship space that Y.B. Mangunwijaya’s design relate with the value of Vatican II’s, churches that open to the world. Also Y.B. Mangunwijaya uses diaspora church concept or churches that relate with Java cultural value, which is a new idea results from the mix between Y.B. Mangunwijaya’s background as an architect with an emphasis on wastu citra, wastu widya, and the values of the Christianity as well as Y.B. Mangunwijaya’s understanding of the traditional architectural style Java that is harmony with the natural environment. With this, Christianity value becomes harmony with the culture surround it.
