Abstract

Abstract

Purpose - This study examines the contribution of schooling and skills to earnings. Importantly, this study captures the importance of observing cognitive skills and non-cognitive skills associated with personality traits in determining earnings. Methods - A revised Mincer Model serves as a theoretical framework to explain the contribution of schooling and skills to earnings. Using the Indonesian labour data from the 5th wave of Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS), the 2-Stage Least Squares is employed to measure the effects of schooling, cognitive and non-cognitive skills on earnings.Findings - The results show that schooling and skills, both cognitive and personality traits determine the labour market outcomes. In addition, the relationship between education and earning is nonlinear, suggesting that the returns on education varied across education levels.Implication - The policy should aim to enhance human capital by improving knowledge, cognitive and non-cognitive capacities to assist students in achieving their full potentials.Originality - This study contributes to the literature by measuring the effects of unobservable cognitive skills and non-cognitive skills on earnings in developing countries absent in the previous studies. This study also utilizes the instrumental variable approach of 2-Stage Least Squares to deal with omitted variable bias and the endogeneity problem in the basic Mincer model.

This research used 134 samples representing all small and medium enterprises in Salatiga City. The data focused in this research related to the application of the digital economy by business actors in Salatiga City. The analytical techniques of this research included descriptive statistics and a multiple linear regression model estimated by ordinary least squares (OLS). The result of this research indicated that the application of the digital economy in the framework for improving MSMEs’ strength and resilience amidst the COVID-19 pandemic was not proven in this study. The variables of the digital economy and total length of business did not significantly affect the turnover of the MSME actors in Salatiga City. Meanwhile, the labor variable proved to have a positive and significant effect on the turnover of the MSME actors in Salatiga City. However, the service business sector has been shown to negatively and significantly impact the turnover of MSME actors. MSMEs engaged in the service business sector tended to have lower turnover than MSMEs engaged in the trade business sector.

Abstract

The analysis method used in this study is the Error Correction Model (ECM). The results of research that has been conducted where international CPO prices in the short and long term have a significant and positive influence on Indonesia's CPO export volume. Meanwhile, the price of substitution goods in the short and long term has a negative relationship with CPO Export Volume. Then the variable exchange rate in the long term and in the short term has a significant influence on the CPO Export Volume. For this reason, the government is that it can be used for information and input materials to improve CPO exports for the better in the future. This can be done in several ways to reduce export costs charged to producers so as to maximize international CPO prices in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the factors influencing the use of digital marketing by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and to examine the factors affecting the preference for digital marketing usage by MSMEs in the city of Salatiga. The research sample consists of 135 business units representing MSMEs in Salatiga. Data analysis techniques involve descriptive statistical analysis, qualitative analysis, binomial and multinomial logistic regression. The research findings provide evidence of the implementation of the UTAUT theory, particularly concerning performance expectations and facilitating conditions, significantly influencing the probability of digital marketing usage and the marketing of business products. Surprisingly, acceptance as part of performance expectations has a negative impact on digital marketing usage, especially on social media platforms. Furthermore, digital marketing proves to be of paramount importance for MSMEs looking to expand their businesses. Keywords: MSMEs; Digital Marketing; Covid-19; UTAUT Theory; Logistic Regression
