Abstract

Purpose - This study examines the contribution of schooling and skills to earnings. Importantly, this study captures the importance of observing cognitive skills and non-cognitive skills associated with personality traits in determining earnings. Methods - A revised Mincer Model serves as a theoretical framework to explain the contribution of schooling and skills to earnings. Using the Indonesian labour data from the 5th wave of Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS), the 2-Stage Least Squares is employed to measure the effects of schooling, cognitive and non-cognitive skills on earnings.Findings - The results show that schooling and skills, both cognitive and personality traits determine the labour market outcomes. In addition, the relationship between education and earning is nonlinear, suggesting that the returns on education varied across education levels.Implication - The policy should aim to enhance human capital by improving knowledge, cognitive and non-cognitive capacities to assist students in achieving their full potentials.Originality - This study contributes to the literature by measuring the effects of unobservable cognitive skills and non-cognitive skills on earnings in developing countries absent in the previous studies. This study also utilizes the instrumental variable approach of 2-Stage Least Squares to deal with omitted variable bias and the endogeneity problem in the basic Mincer model.

Abstract

This study intends to see the meaning of happiness of women entrepreneurs in the business. This research was conducted in the city of Surakarta using qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach and social constructivist perspective. The results showed that happiness that is in line with a successful business is accompanied by a calm heart and mental condition and away from worry and sadness. In achieving happiness, there are supports influenced by both material and non-material aspects. Women entrepreneurs in Surakarta interpret success not only from the material side but also from the peace of mind, such as the absence of worry and fear, which shows that happiness goes in the same direction with success.

Abstract

The current economic situation is dire because of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has increased unemployment, reduced income, and reduced people's well-being. Many social issues become homework that necessitates real-world solutions. The 1.12 million increases in the number of poor people in 2021 is a clear indication of the need for steps to address social needs that are not being met by the private sector or the government. This study aims to conduct a literature review on the concept of sociopreneurship in general, as well as to investigate the role of sociopreneurship and Philanthropy in mitigating the effects of the Pandemic's economic downturn. Sociopreneurship, which places priority on social advantages without compromise on material gains and philanthropy, has more positive impacts than if the two were to take place separately. The findings show that sociopreneurship is a type of entrepreneurial initiative that can be developed with the primary goal of assisting the community, and that philanthropy plays an important role in supplementing government programs by providing community contributions and solidarity aimed at reviving economic activity.

Abstract

Abstract

This study attempts to estimate the impact of corruption and institutions on economic growth in ASEAN countries during 2000-2018. The corruption perception index and six indicators of institutions are utilized. The basic empirical model is derived from the theory of the Solow Growth Model. Two econometrics techniques were employed: statics panel data and panel-vector autoregression. The findings exhibit that the corruption perception index does not contribute to economic growth. Conversely, some institutional indicators (voice and accountability and control of corruption) significantly impact economic growth under random effects model estimation. Moreover, the quality of regulation and the fight against corruption have a significant impact on economic growth in terms of panel-vector autoregression. Therefore, governments should strengthen anti-corruption institutions and raise the standard of institutions on both a national and an ASEAN level.
