Abstract

Mappetuada was the fifth step of wedding proposing tradition in South Sulawesi. The aim of this research was to acknowledge the reader about how the bugis people used their language in Proposing woman in mappetuada tradition. Many religious symbols were used in Bugis local custom in order to perform their identity as a part of religious people. Islam, the most majority religion in Indonesia, is always appeared in each tribes’ activities through appearance or even untterance. This research is a part of Anthropholinguistics research. The theory of Functional analysis is used in finding the voices of speaker in using their languages. The analysis focused on various features of Islamic symbols in people utterances and appearances related to the cultural performance. The additional theory about Bakhtinian dialogism was used in order to find the features which are related and different among the people in mappetuada tradition. The result showed the features of islamic performance used by each performants from different cultural background in mappettuada tradition. The islamic cues were not only found in non- verbal signs but also existed in verbal utterances.

Abstract

This research aims to understand the message and the way of comedians in delivering their messages toward omnibus law in Indonesia. How the comedians build their power through language to confirm their position. Pragmatics analysis was a main tool in analyzing the language used by comedians. This research observes two videos of different comedians commenting the law through social media. Both videos examine the truth of comedians’ voice on Omnibus law. The comedians absolutely have their special characteristic in reflecting their ideology towards the regulation. Their position reflected from the speech that supporting the demonstrators against omnibus law validation. The result shows that both comedians used some features such as irony, metaphors, and satires in criticizing the government. Plethora signs are given by them in comparing the power and effectiveness of previous and current government in coping country’s problems. Moreover, there are several pragmatics cues used to inform people about their position in facing the government’s policy.

Abstract

Learning is more about the act of transferring knowledge. However, the successfulness of students depends on their emotions in learning knowledge. Optimism is one of the factor that may influence the students’ achievement in the lesson. The purpose of the research is to find the correlation between the optimism and students’ listening achievement through knowing  the way of optimism works in listening class and the significant influence between students optimism and listening achievement. The method of this research is correlation method by using quantitative data. This research was conducted in the class of listening in the third semester of University of Raden Intan Lampung in the academic year 2018-2019. The population of this study is the student of the third semester of listening class of State Islamic University Raden Intan Lampung.  The instruments used in this research are Questionnaire and documentation. The finding in this result is the optimism level of students were mostly moderate. There were 81.8 % of moderate optimism by the students in listening and the result of correlation coefficient value was 0.668 which means that there was a positive correlation between them. As a result, The higher of  the students’ optimism can cause the higher achievement of the students in listening class.

Abstract

Mastering English for the students is very important since the skill can be the key to study other knowledge. Speaking is considered as a major skill to be mastered by students in terms of communication. When students attempt to speak, they try to match the sounds with known letters. Due to improving students' speaking English competence, the writer applied phonological awareness in the learning process in order to find the its effectiveness in Speaking. An important link in developing phonological awareness was to encourage students to use invented spelling. The writer formulated a hypothesis as follows: Is there any significant effect of phonological awareness on speaking performance at the fifth-grade students of English Education Department of UIN Raden Intan Lampung. This research was intended to find out the empirical evidence of students’ achievement in speaking performance by using phonological awareness training. This research was Classroom Action Research. The population of the research was all students of English Department in 5th semester. The implementation of speaking skills run well and smoothly by applying the use of phonological awareness methods in learning Process. Initially, it found difficultiesin Cycle I and had not run optimally because lecturers and students were not used to it and had not yet experienced it, but after applying it twice, the meeting in Cycle II used phonological awareness method could run smoothly. The actions taken in the use of the phonological awareness method in each round were carried out by students with enthusiasm and full of motivation. Activities and student involvement in learning activities have begun to appear. Learning progressed smoothly with the maximum result seen in Cycle III, students had understood the benefits of the phonological awareness method in learning. Individual participation and student enthusiasm were also increasing.
