Abstract

Arbenan leaf is a medicinal plant that used in the healing of inflammation. The content of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, steroids and tannins contained in arbenan plants which play an important role in alternative medicine. Currently, scientific work of phytotherapy is an important alternative route in finding effective natural medicines with minimal side effects. The aim of this study was to determine the phytochemical properties and to determine the anti-inflammatory effect of arbenan leaf [Duchesnea indica (Jacks.) Focke] extract. In this study, nine male Wistar rats were tested in three treatment groups. Group I Na CMC, group II Na diclofenac and group III arbenan leaf extract. Inflammation in rats by inducing 1% carrageenan as much as 0.10 mL. The volume of edema per hour is known from the difference in the volume of the foot at certain hours with the volume of the normal foot. The AUC value of edema volume was calculated by the trapezoid method every one hour and the percen of anti-inflammatory power was calculated. The statistical analysis of the Least Significance Different (LSD) AUC value from the edema volume data showed that the two treatment groups, namely the Na diclofenac and the arbenan leaf extract group, were significantly different from the Na CMC group (P <0.05). So that both treatment groups have anti-inflammatory effects. The results showed that the ethanolik extract of arbenan leaves contained phenolic compounds, flavonoids and tannins. Then the ethanolic extract of arbenan leaves has anti-inflammatory activity of 0.31%.

Abstract

Palm fruit (Arenga pinnata) contains galactomannan which has the potential as an antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 20,45 ppm. This study aims to produce cream dosage forms with antioxidant activity using the scaverry DPPH radical scavenger method from arenga pinnata water extract. Palm fruit water extract is formulated in cream form with variations in the concentration of stearic acid and triethanolamine emulgators in F1 (6:4), F2 (7:3), and F3 (8:2). Evaluation of physical stability includes organoleptic testing, homogeneity, pH, emulsion type, viscosity and type of flow carried out before and after forced conditions. In the statistical analysis of viscosity, the results of each formula showed no significant changes both before and after the conditions were forced. The results of the study obtained formula 2 and formula 3 has optimal stability. The stable formula was then tested for antioxidants using the DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenger method. Formula 2 and formula 3 each yield a DPPH radical inhibition percentage of 65% and 48.04%.

Abstract

Antioxidants are substances that can fight the dangerous effects of free radicals or Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) that are formed as a result of oxidative metabolism, which is the result of chemical reactions and metabolic processes that happen in the body. Antioxidant compounds can function as free radical scavengers, complex formers with metal antioxidants and function as reducing compounds. Peel-off mask is a cosmetic product that functions as a dead skin peel mechanically containing synthetic polymers that are quite safe and effective. The purpose of this study is to formulate and evaluate peel off gel masks from apple peel waste (Phyrus mallus L) as one of the stable free antiradicals. The peel off gel mask formulation was made through several stages, namely optimization, formulation and evaluation. This variation is done to optimize the effective base concentration to meet the criteria for the physical properties of the peel off mask pharmaceutically and can survive in shelf life through stability testing. The evaluation is based on physical parameters including organoleptic examination, homogeneity, viscosity measurement, determination of flow type,pH measurement, spreadability and drying time. The results of this study are apple peel extract can be formulated into peel off mask preparations with a PVA base of 2.5% and 5%. The peel off mask formulation of several variations of the PVA base concentration was concluded to be pharmaceutically stable based on the following parameters: In the pH test, PVA 2.5%=6.49; PVA 5%=6.47, In the dispersion test, the PVA spread value is 2.5%=6.7; PVA 5%=6.0, In the viscosity test, the value of PVA viscosity is 2.5%=28.27; PVA 5%=121.07.From all tests fulfilling the pharmacutics requirements and after the forced conditions did not experience significant changes
