Abstract

Studies on the errors of linguistic elements in students’ writings have been carried out. Students learning English as a Foreign Language from various universities seem tomake the time same type of errors, for example in aspects of tenses, verb forms, perpositions, subject-verb agreement, word order, and passive contrainst (Rahman et al. 2016; Murrow, 2004; Rahman, 1994; & Rahman & Rasyid). This study is expected to find the weaknessess of students of English Department, Faculty of Languages and Literature in terms of paragraph writing. In particular, this research examined the ability of students to write or develop paragraphsin terms of unity, coherence, and development aspects. The findings of this study will be useful for instructors/lecturers of Writing couses especially in developing syllabus and effective writing exercises.

Abstract

Abstrak. Mitra Program Kemitraan Komunitas (PKM) ini adalah Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) SMP Bahasa Inggris di Kabupaten Maros. Masalahnya adalah: (1) selama pandemi dan pemberlakuan pembelajaran daring, kurang latihan-latihan yang membutuhkan interaksi langsung yang menggunakan bahasa Inggris, (2) kebutuhan para siswa untuk tetap bersosialisai dengan menggunakan bahasa Inggris walaupun melalui media daring, (3) kurangnya kegiatan bahasa Inggris diluar kelas yang dapat melibatkan orangtua. Sasaran eksternal adalah peningkatan kompetensi para guru MGMP SMP Bahasa Inggris dalam penggunaan aplikasi daring Flipgrid dan peningkatan motivasi dan kepercayaan diri siswa dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk berbicara dan berinteraksi. Metode yang digunakan adalah: ceramah, tanya jawab dan diskusi, dan metode latihan atau praktek. Hasil yang dicapai adalah (1) mitra memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan tentang cara menggunakan Flipgrid (2) pelatihan ini bisa menumbuhkan kebiasaan mengekplorasi berbagai aplikasi daring lain yang dapat menumbuhkan motivasi siswa dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Abstract

This study aims to find out whether the application of film as a learning medium can improve the English vocabulary skills of the subjects. The subjects of this study were students of the Bahasa Inggris D4 or commonly called Business English Communication study program class of 2020. The sample consisted of 30 students from class A and B. In carrying out this study, data was obtained by giving 2 tests and treatment. The treatment in question is watching a movie called The Founder. The results of the study show that the 2020 students' Business English Communication vocabulary skills are still lacking . This can be seen from the results of test 1 which only obtained an average result of 69.7 while test 2 was 62.8 and the use of film as a learning medium. still has a small impact on the vocabulary mastery of Business English Communication 2020 students. Based on the findings above, the researcher concludes that the use of film as a learning medium does not have a major impact on the vocabulary of Business English Communication 2020 students because it can be seen from the low test results they obtained.Keywords: English, Vocabulary Mastery, Impact, Movie

Abstract

Tujuan pengabdian kepada masyarakat adalah melatih para taruna Polteknik Penerbangan Makassar dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sehingga dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris. Hal ini penting mengingat setelah para taruna selesai, mereka akan membutuhkan keterampilan bahasa Inggris di tempat kerja mereka. Ini diperkuat dengan kebijakan kampus mereka dimana mahasiswa harus lulus tes bahasa Inggris resmi sebelum wisuda. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah workshop sebanyak 5 pertemuan. Hasilnya adalah kemampuan berbicara (speaking skill) para taruna meningkat. Walaupun demikian, para taruna diharapkan untuk terus berlatih sehingga kemampuan bahasa Inggris mereka dapat terus meningkat.

Abstract

Encouraging motivation of students is essential to increase their performance and involvement in classroom activities. Academic performance, inappropriate behavior and unproductive classrooms are all related to motivation issues. This study aims to describe how praise can motivate students in an EFL classroom. Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out the impacts of the use of Google Translate (GT) application to the students’ thesis writing. The samples of the research were chosen purposively, taken the fourth semester students of English Education Department, Graduate Program, at Universitas Negeri Makassar. The study was a descriptive qualitative. It utilized an interview guideline as the primary tool for data collection. The data were analyzed by qualitative analysis employing data condensation, data display, and conclusion and drawing verification. The results of the study showed that the impacts of using GT app to the students’ thesis writing are rewarding in terms of confidence, convenience, time efficiency, and motivation. GT app can increase students’ self-confidence in terms of self-writing skills in composing their thesis. It can also increase the ability to create students’ thesis content. Its use is convenient. Its operation is simple to use at any time, from any location, and in any mobile device. GT app also has an impact on the students’ motivation to complete their thesis quickly, resulting in time efficiency that saves them time in understanding the related literature from GT’s translation as well as the translation of the students’ ideas.Keywords: Google Translate, Thesis Writing, Impacts.
