Abstract

Abstract

THE EFFECT OF ADSORBENT TYPE AND RATIO ON REMOVAL AND ISOTHERM ADSORPTION OF METHYLENE BLUE. Methylene Blue (MB) is one of the dye that are widely used in the textile industry. The wastewater from textile industry that contain MB can reduce the oxygen level in water bodies. This study aims to determine the efficiency of the adsorbent in MB removal and to analyze the isotherm adsorption. The variations conducted in this research was the type of adsorbent and its ratio. The activated carbon that used as adsorbent was fresh betel nut (Cyrtostachys lakka) activated carbon (A), regenerated betel nut activated carbon (B), and coconut shell activated carbon (Cocos nucifera) (C). The type of adsorbent was AB, AC, and BC with ratio of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 2:1, and 3:1. The MB concentration was analyzed by using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Isotherm adsorption was calculated based on Freundlich and Langmuir. The best results showed that the combination of fresh and regenerated betel nuts (AB) with ratio of 3:1 can remove 97.77% of MB. The adsorption process of MB in aqueous solution followed the Langmuir model with regression over 0.99 and adsorption capacity in the range of 2.14 mg/g - 3.53 mg/g.

Abstract

The utilization of technology becomes an indicator of the growth of a society that solves problems, needs, benefits in an effective, efficient and sustainable ways. One of the technologies utilized by the community to reduce the massive exploitation of non-renewable fossil energy is to reuse alternative energy. Biobriquette becomes alternative energy from biomass waste that is possibly used in daily activities. In response to this, the purposes of performing the Community Service Program (PPM) in Karang Kemiri Village, Belitang District are; to 1) provide counseling and assistance to the community in creating biobriquette from coconut shells, 2) apply biobriquette in the cooking process. The PPM implementation method includes 3 (three) stages, that is socialization, biobriquette production, and biobriquette application. Based on the results achieved as a whole, the local Community welcomed the Community Service Program as it provides them new knowledge and skills regarding biobriquette creation. The other result of this community service program is to apply biobriquette instead of firewood to cook for their daily cooking needs

Abstract

The community development program is a prominent activity to identify and overcome local issues within community. The training and assistance program for solar cell technology application is useful to improve knowledge of community in Ujan Mas village, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra. The objective of this activity is to transfer knowledge of solar cell technology starting from construction to application process. The tehnique used in this community service program is the locality development approach. This activity conducted for two days (3-4 September 2022). This activity resulted in enhancing the community’s knowledge of implementing solar cell technology with a 92% understanding rate, and also reducing electrical bill of community. In addition, this activity is one of a way to support the Indonesian government program to build an eletrical independent village or city. For future community development activities, we suggest to give a training program for other green energies such as biogas which used domestic and agricultural wastes to produce eletricity.
