Abstract

This research investigates the impact of work stress and work environment on employee performance at Bareskrim Polres Kutai Timur, with work motivation as a mediating variable. A total of 95 respondents were selected using the Slovin formula to ensure representativeness. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed using SmartPLS 4.0 software. The findings reveal that work stress positively influences employee performance, suggesting that moderate levels of stress may enhance productivity. Conversely, the work environment negatively affects performance, implying that an unfavorable work atmosphere reduces productivity. Additionally, work motivation does not significantly impact performance nor mediate the relationship between work stress and employee performance. Moreover, the study highlights that the work environment has a greater influence on employee performance compared to work stress and motivation. The interaction between work stress and motivation indicates that these factors collectively shape performance outcomes. A supportive work environment is crucial in optimizing employee effectiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of job stress and coworker conflict on employee happiness, and the role of job satisfaction as a moderating variable in these relationships. The research is grounded in the importance of addressing employees’ psychological well-being amidst workplace pressure and interpersonal dynamics. A quantitative approach was employed by distributing questionnaires to 381 employees working at a company in Yogyakarta. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to process the data. The results show that job stress does not have a significant effect on employee happiness. In contrast, coworker conflict negatively affects employee happiness. Furthermore, job satisfaction does not moderate the relationship between job stress and happiness, but it does moderate the relationship between coworker conflict and happiness. These findings suggest that job satisfaction can help buffer the negative effects of interpersonal conflict at work, although it is not sufficient to reduce the impact of job stress on happiness.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the motivation and perception of generation Z in choosing a career as a State Civil Apparatus (ASN), by highlighting the driving factors, obstacles, and image of ASN in the eyes of the younger generation. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a thematic analysis approach. Informants were selected through purposive sampling techniques as many as 15 people, consisting of final year students, fresh graduates, and young civil servants aged 20-26 years who showed interest in the ASN profession. The data collection technique was carried out through in-depth interviews. The results of the study show that the main motivation of Generation Z in choosing a career as an ASN is a guarantee of job security, social status, and long-term stability. However, some negative perceptions also emerge, such as a rigid bureaucracy, lack of challenges, and lower starting salaries compared to the private sector. However, the existence of digital transformation and bureaucratic modernization has begun to affect the views of some informants towards the ASN profession more positively. This research shows the need for a more adaptive ASN branding and recruitment strategy, relevant to the values and expectations of Generation Z. This research contributes to the development of public sector human resource management studies, especially related to the career preferences of the younger generation which are still understudied in the Indonesian context.
