Abstract

Street vendors’ activities are interesting phenomena to be analyzed. Their cries (calls) in the streets, called street cries, existed since a long time ago. This study aims at investigating the forms and characteristics of street cries in Indonesian (Makassarese) compared to English. This study is a comparative study which uses descriptive qualitative in analyzing data. Indonesian (Makassarese) street cries were noted, recorded, and transcribed. Firstly, the result of this study shows that both Indonesian (Makassarese) and English vendors always mention the name of commodities and services they provided. Sometimes English vendors mention their prices and qualities. Secondly, the forms of Indonesian (Makassarese) street cries compared to English street cries almost the same. Some of Indonesian (Makassarese) street cries have brief (short) forms, and some of them are long, and vice versa. Thirdly, the characteristics of Indonesian (Makassarese) and English street cries mostly the same. They are using repetitive words, parallelism, degenerated (shortened) words, lengthened cries, participatory engagement, terms of address, and code-switching.

Abstract

Mitra Program Kemitraan Masyarakat (PKM) ini adalah Guru-Guru SMA 8 Negeri Gowa. Sebagai Guru yang mengajar para generasi milenial yang notabene adalah generasi yang sudah banyak terpapar oleh teknologi informasi, dituntut untuk bisa menggunakan teknologi informasi sebagai media pembelajarannya dan juga perlu memikirkan model pembelajaran yang efektif dan inovatif. Salah satu model pembelajaran yang dianggap cocok dengan gaya millennial saat ini adalah flipped learning. Flipped learning adalah model pembelajaran yang membalik metode tradisional, dimana biasanya materi diberikan dikelas dan siswa mengerjakan tugas dirumah maka pada flipped learning, materi terlebih dahulu diberikan melalui video pembelajaran atau bahan bacaan lainnya melalui elearning yang harus ditonton atau dibaca oleh siswa dirumah masing–masing. Untuk memperoleh proses pembelajaran yang efektif, guru maupun murid harus memiliki model pembelajaran yang inovatif dan menarik, hal ini juga dialami oleh SMA Negeri 8 Gowa, sudah saatnya beralih dari model pembelajaran tradisional ke model pembelajaran yang modern. Namun demikian, ada gap yang dialami oleh guru SMA Negeri 8 Gowa dimana mereka masih belum banyak memiliki pengetahuan mengenai media yang bisa digunakan sebagai penunjang model flipped learning ini. Aplikasi-aplikasi penunjang flipped learning seperti edpuzzle dan filmora sebagai video audio editor, paddlet sebagai media forum diskusi online, kahoot sebagai media kuis creator sampai edmodo sebagai media e-learning dan SLN- nya belum banyak diketahui oleh guru-guru SMA Negeri 8 Gowa, bahkan beberapa diantaranya sama sekali belum pernah mendengar aplikasi ini. Adanya gap inilah yang melatar belakangi untuk memberikan pelatihan dan workshop Flipped Learning

Abstract

The study aims to describe (1) the nature of the Integrated Skills Approach in writing class, (2) whether the Integrated Skills Approach (ISA) is effective in facilitating the students to write English compositions. The study was conducted in the Business English Communication (BEC) writing class of the English Department, Faculty of Languages and Literature, Universitas Negeri Makassar. The subject of this study was the BEC students, consisting of 20 students. This study was essentially quantitative research. The data were taken from the students’ writing compositions and analyzed using the pre-experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test design. This design involves one group, which was pre-tested (X1), then exposed to treatment (T), and post-tested (X2). The study shows some results as follows: 1) Integrated Skills Approach (ISA) could enthusiastically involve the students in learning activities. 2) Integrated skills sequence leads the students to share ideas about the topic of writing composition. 3) Integrated Skills Approach (ISA) effectively facilitates students' English composition writing.

Abstract

Pelatihan budidaya anggrek ini ditujukan bagi mahasiswa Prodi Bahasa Inggris Terapan D4 atau dikenal juga dengan mahasiswa BEC (Business English Communication), Fakultas Bahasa dan Sastra, Universitas Negeri Makassar. Bertujuan untuk mengenalkan budidaya anggrek dan peluang bisnisnya. Pelatihan ini dilaksanakan selama sehari yaitu pada tanggal 8 September 2023, yang diikuti oleh 30 peserta. Pelaksanaan pelatihan menggunakan metode: ceramah, tanya-jawab, demonstrasi, dan praktek. Pelatihan ini diadakan mengingat bahwa salah satu misi Prodi Business English Communication adalah menumbuhkan semangat kewirausahaan dimana mahasiswa diajarkan berbagai jenis keterampilan yang mengarah ke wirausaha (bisnis). Pengetahuan dan keterampilan itu diharapkan kelak bermanfaat bagi mahasiswa saat mereka telah menyelesaikan studi mereka. Hasil dari pelatihan ini adalah keterampilan yang diperoleh mahasiswa dalam mengenali jenis-jenis anggrek yang potensial untuk dibisniskan, cara menanam dan merawat anggrek dalam berbagai tahap umur, teknik perbanyakan anggrek, pencegahan dan pembasmian hama dan penyakit, serta kiat-kiat yang perlu dipahami agar dapat berhasil di dunia bisnis anggrek.

Abstract

Nursery rhymes is one of oral tradition that exist in all of the cultures like in Makassar, South Sulawesi. The purpose of nursery rhymes are to educate and entertain the small children. The songs can be identified in three forms: songs only, songs that are sung while playing games, and lullaby songs intended for babies and small children. We can find many songs that exist for years, like Bintang Kecil, Kasih Ibu, Pelangi-Pelangi, Burung Kakatua, Topi Saya Bundar, etc. The kinds of songs that sung while playing games in Makassar are Cincin banca, Domikado, Lojo’-Lojo’, Tumbu’-Tumbu’ Blanga, Ular Naga, etc. Lullaby songs are Nina Bobo, and some local songs like Yabe Lale, Alama Sea-Sea, Labuni Essoe, O indokku… O Ambokku. Children creativity also develop when they are playing. They create different version of the songs. Nursery rhymes also has important roles and some benefits for the children like improving their speaking skills, improving their language, vocabularies, and sentence structure that are easy to be learned by the children. Also nursery rhymes have benefits to strengthen their physic like running, jumping, etc. The last, playing and singing can improve the togetherness and solidarity among children.
