Abstract

Background: Women have a higher risk of developing osteoporosis compared to men. Calcium intake is one of the determinant factor which can be modified to prevent osteoporosis. Knowledge, attitude and behaviour are important factors to fulfill the needs of calcium intake. This study aimed to describe  knowledge, attitude, and behavior toward calcium intake of woman of reproductive age. Methods: This descriptive study recruited 100 women (aged 20–30 years) in Jatinangor, West Java and was conducted from September to November 2014. Knowledge and attitude measurements used a validated questionnaire consisting of 10 and 9 closed questions respectively. Behavioral aspect was assessed using semi-quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Knowledge was classified as high, moderate, and low based on questionnaire scoring results, >75%, 60–75%, and <60% respectively. Attitude was categorized in two: positive and negative. Behaviour category used Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) as the cut-off point. If the  daily calcium intake is below the RDA it is categorized less and if the daily calcium intake equals to or exceeds the RDA it is categorized sufficient. The collected data were presented in frequency tabulation and percentage. Results: The majority of subjects  showed low to moderate level of knowledge toward calcium intake, 66% of subjects showed negative attitude towards calcium intake, and  98% showed calcium intake below the RDA. Conclusions: Subjects of this study have low to moderate level of knowledge, negative attitude toward calcium intake, and low level of behavior toward calcium intake.

Abstract

Introduction: Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory gynecologic disease characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside of the uterus, most commonly on pelvic organs, affecting approximately 10% of women and girls of reproductive age worldwide. Umbilical endometriosis, also known as Villar’s nodule, is a rare form of endometriosis characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue in the umbilicus, with an incidence approximately 0.5% to 1% of all endometriosis cases worldwide.Case Report: A 36-year-old woman, P2A0, presented with a slowly enlarging umbilical nodule for 8 months, accompanied by pain and cyclic menstrual bleeding, with no history of abdominal surgery. Physical examination revealed a blackish-brown umbilical nodule measuring 2.5×3×1cm. A previous biopsy confirmed external endometriosis. Administration of dienogest at a dose of 2 mg/day for three months resulted in a favorable therapeutic response, as evidenced by clinical improvement and a reduction in lesion size to 1.5×1.5cm. The patient subsequently underwent surgical excision, and histopathological examination confirmed umbilical endometriosis. Dienogest therapy was continued for six months postoperatively, with no evidence of recurrence during follow-up.Conclusion: Primary umbilical endometriosis is a rare type of endometriosis and dienogest can be used as pretreatment before surgery.

Abstract

Introduction: Primary amenorrhea, defined as the absence of menstruation by age 15, has a broad differential diagnosis, including anatomical, endocrine, hypothalamic-pituitary, and genetic causes. Turner syndrome and Kallmann syndrome are two distinct etiologies with different pathophysiological mechanisms. Turner syndrome is characterized by hypergonadotropic hypogonadism due to gonadal dysgenesis, whereas Kallmann syndrome results from gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) deficiency and is often associated with anosmia.Case Presentation: A 17-year-old female was referred with primary amenorrhea and absent secondary sexual development. Physical examination revealed Tanner Stage I breast and pubic hair development, with no reported olfactory disturbances. Hormonal assays indicated hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, with low FSH, LH, and estradiol levels. Pelvic ultrasonography revealed a hypoplastic uterus and non-visualized ovaries. Cranial MRI showed pituitary hypoplasia and bilateral agenesis of the olfactory bulbs, suggestive of Kallmann syndrome. However, karyotype analysis revealed a mosaic 45,X/46,XX pattern, consistent with Turner syndrome. This combination of clinical, hormonal, imaging, and cytogenetic findings posed a unique diagnostic dilemma.Discussion: The overlapping features of Turner and Kallmann syndromes make this case highly unusual. Turner syndrome typically presents with hypergonadotropic hypogonadism, whereas Kallmann syndrome is characterized by hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, often with anosmia. Comprehensive evaluation, including cytogenetic analysis and MRI, was essential for accurate diagnosis. Management focused on pubertal induction with hormone replacement therapy and appropriate genetic and systemic evaluation. Conclusion: This case underscores the diagnostic complexity of primary amenorrhea with overlapping features of Turner and Kallmann syndromes. Accurate diagnosis requires integrated hormonal, imaging, and cytogenetic evaluation, with management focused on hormonal correction and long-term supportive care.

Abstract

Background: This systematic review explores factors influencing the success of Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) in response to increasing global cesarean rates. VBAC reduces the need for repeat cesareans and associated risks. Purpose: To identify key medical, psychological, and institutional factors affecting VBAC outcomes. Methods: A total of 21 studies were reviewed from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar using PRISMA-ScR criteria. The analysis focused on maternal age, previous vaginal birth, cervical dilatation, healthcare access, and psychosocial support. Results: Successful VBAC was linked to younger maternal age, prior vaginal birth experience, spontaneous labor onset, and adequate cervical dilatation at admission. Psychosocial support, including family encouragement and professional guidance, significantly influenced VBAC decisions. Hospital policies promoting VBAC and ensuring access to emergency services further enhanced success rates. Conclusion: Medical, social, and institutional factors significantly affect VBAC success. Establishing standardized guidelines and providing improved counseling are essential to support women’s choices during childbirth. Future research should focus on large, diverse populations to confirm predictors and assess long-term outcomes compared to repeat cesareans.

Abstract

Introduction: Adenomyosis, a benign uterine condition characterized by endometrial tissue within the myometrium, leads to uterine enlargement, infertility, dysmenorrhea, and heavy menstrual bleeding. While its precise etiology remains elusive, delayed pregnancy may contribute to its increasing incidence among infertile women. This condition, predominantly affecting parous women, is also associated with higher rates of early miscarriage. Although immune dysregulation in endometriosis is well-documented, comparable research in adenomyosis is limited. Objective: This review aims to explore the roles of Interleukin-10 (IL-10), an anti-inflammatory cytokine, and Neuronal Growth Factor (NGF), a neuroimmune factor, in adenomyosis.Discussion: Elevated IL-10 levels in ectopic endometrial tissue suggest a potential immunosuppressive mechanism that may exacerbate symptoms. NGF is also implicated in the pain and inflammation associated with adenomyosis. A deeper understanding of the interplay between IL-10 and NGF could offer critical insights into the inflammatory nature and pain mechanisms of this condition. Conclusion: This review proposes IL-10 as a potential inflammatory biomarker and NGF as a pain marker in adenomyosis, paving the way for future research into novel therapeutic targets. Elucidating these pathways could lead to treatments focused on mitigating inflammation and alleviating associated symptoms of adenomyosis.
