Abstract

The purpose of teaching process is on the way of developing students positive characters. The students need something they like to learn, understand, and apply those characters. Hand-puppets can be chosen as the media. The puppets characters (or the actors) are created based on the selected story which can gain students positive characters. It is an R and D research. It was conducted on 6 steps of research activities: collecting data, planning, developing draft of product, testing, revising the result, and developing final product. This research will be finished in 2 years. The results of the first year research were: hand-puppets profiles, hand-puppets actors, and experts judgments. The students and the teachers explained that they needed story books and hand-puppets as their teaching supporting media using story-telling method. Hand-puppets which were made of colorful flannel and cotton fabric should be presented in colorful, eye-catching figures to attract the students attention. Pembelajaran harus mengutamakan pengembangan kemampuan dan pembentukan karakter (character building) serta akhlak mulia (akhlaqul karimah) siswa. Siswa akan lebih tertarik dan mudah dalam belajar jika penanaman akhlak mulia disampaikan melalui hal-hal yang mereka sukai, contohnya dengan boneka tangan. Media ini disesuaikan bentuk dan karakter tokoh-tokohnya dengan isi cerita yang digunakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian pengembangan (R and D) yang dilaksanakan dalam 6 (enam) langkah penelitian, yaitu: pengumpulan data, perencanaan, pengembangan draf, pengujicobaan awal, perevisian hasil uji coba, dan penyempurnaan produk. Penelitian ini direncanakan akan dilaksanakan selama 2 tahun. Hasil yang diperoleh di tahun pertama berupa profil media boneka tangan yang cocok dalam kegiatan berceritera, tokoh-tokoh boneka tangan, dan penilaian dari ahli (experts judgments). Siswa dan guru menginginkan media pendukung dalam kegiatan bercerita berupa buku cerita beserta tokoh-tokohnya dalam bentuk boneka tangan. Media boneka ini dibuat dari kain katun dan atau flannel berwarna cerah untuk menarik perhatian dan minat siswa.

Abstract

Pengenalan kosa kata berbahasa asing perlu dilakukan sejak dini.  Bahasa Inggris sebagai salah satu bahasa internasional yang dipergunakan sebagai bahasa formal di Indonesia sangat perlu dikenalkan kepada anak saat usia mereka masih sangat muda, termasuk di dalamnya adalah para santri TPQ (taman pendidikan Al Qur’an) berusia sekolah dasar.  Pengajaran bahasa Inggris yang dilakukan untuk anak usia dini setingkat sekolah dasar di kelas bawah (kelas 1-3) ini masih dalam tataran pasif, yaitu masih dalam kegiatan menyimak, membaca, dan mengulang, serta dilakukan dengan menggunakan media belajar yang menyenangkan.  Hanya para siswa SD di kelas tinggi saja yang boleh diminta untuk melakukan kegiatan berbahasa aktif dengan membuat percakapan dan atau menulis kalimat dalam bahasa Inggris.  Namun selama ini kenyataan yang banyak terjadi adalah para pembelajar muda (young learners) di level SD kelas bawah diarahkan untuk memproduksi kata dengan cara mengingat dan menulis kosa kata tertentu serta dilakukan dengan cara menghafal kata.  Media PORTEK (portable engklek) hadir untuk memberi solusi bagi permasalahan di atas.  Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hasil dari pengenalana kosa kata tentang rambu-rambu lalu lintas berbahasa Inggris menggunakan media PORTEK.  Sebelumnya di tahun 2012, peneliti pernah melakukan penelitian menggunakan media PORTEK.  Peneliti ingin mengujicoba kembali tingkat keberhasilan PORTEK dalam pengenalan kosa kata berbahasa Inggris.  Untuk mengetahui hasilnya, peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif dengan pendekatan penelitian pre-eksperimental subyek tunggal di mana hanya akan dipilih 1 kelas sebagai kelas pre-tets dan post-test. (1 group pretest and post-test).  Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh santri TPQ di Kelurahan Kalicari Kota Semarang.  Subyek penelitian ini adalah santri TPQ Al Barokah Semarang.  Dari hasil penelitian di lapangan diperoleh hasil bahwa para santri TPQ Al Barokah menunjukkan peningkatan 16.67%.  Angka ini meningkat 5.47 %, dari nilai awal 11.2% di tahun 2012 menjadi 16.67%  pada saat ini.  Penulis menyimpulkan bahwa media PORTEK masih tepat digunakan untuk mengajar kosa kata berbahasa Inggris bagi anak usia sekolah dasar. Kata Kunci: PORTEK, rambu lalu lintas, bahasa Inggris bagi anak usia SD

Abstract

The main goal of this article is to find out whether or not PORTEK be a solution to teach vocabulary to English young learners.  Previously, there were some studies conducted to prove the effectiveness of PORTEK as English teaching media, especially in teaching vocabulary.  But the writer assumed that she needed to conduct one more study to conclude her previous findings.  She used library research with qualitative data to answer the research question.  The data from her previous studies were used as the primary data.  The result of her study was showed in tables to ease the readers get the conclusion.  At the end, it can be concluded that PORTEK can be a solution to teach vocabulary to English young learners.

Abstract

The aims of the article are to find out: 1) kinds of illocutionary acts which are produced by the main characters in “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” movie, and 2) the most dominant illocutionary acts.  In analyzing the data, the authors used descriptive qualitative method.  The object of this study was main character’s dialogue of “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” movie.  The authors did these following steps: watched the movie, found the transcript, identified the dialogues of main character, classified them using Searle’s theory, and interpreted the meaning of utterances.  Here are 52 utterances with illocutionary acts. The results were: 1) Representative (assertive) (65%), 2) Directive (19%), 3) Expressive (8%), 4) Commissive (6%), and 5) Declarative (2%) in scale of 100%. Representative (assertive) was the most dominant. This study can be a reference for learning pragmatics, especially illocutionary acts. The teachers can also use movie as speech acts teaching media.

Abstract

Teenagers have an important role to develop the village into a tourist village. One of the roles is to develop existing facilities and infrastructure at tourist sites. Information boards are a very important part of tourism villages’s management because it can be the information about tourist attractions, restrictions and warnings. Therefore, training and mentoring in making information boards in English and Indonesian need to be done in Bendosari Village, Plantungan District, Kendal Regency because of the limited number of information boards at tourist sites, especially in Jeglong Waterfall. The method used in the training is lecture, question and answer and practice. Participants in the training and mentoring activities for the making of this information board were the teenagers of Bendosari Village.  The outcomes generated from these training activities are 1) teenagers 'understanding of the importance of information boards at tourist sites increases, 2) teenagers' understanding of the phrases used on information boards both in English and in Indonesian also increases, 3) models of information boards for tourist sites are created, and 4) nformation boards in English and Indonesian language for tourist sites are created as well

Abstract

AbstractThe success of tourism village development is influenced by many factors. The involvement of the community and all the supporting elements in developing the tourism village becomes the main factor in determining the success of the tourism village itself. Therefore, community empowerment becomes an alternative solution as an effort to develop tourism village. Bendosari village located in Plantungan District, Kendal Regency is a tourist destination that begins ogled by the tourists because this village has an interesting tourism potential named Curug Jeglong. it is surrounded by pine forests around it. The most enabling empowerment for Bendosari Village teenagers to support the success of a tourism village development is a tour guide. However, the knowledge and skills that the teenagers have in terms of guidance and English for tour guide is very limited, so it is necessary to conduct guidance and English training for tour guides. The methods used in this training were lecture, discussion, question and answer, drilling, and role play. The results achieved from this activity are 1) the understanding of training participants on the guided tourism improve and 2) from English-language training for tour guide, simple English expressions have been mastered. Keywords: teenager empowerment, tourism village, tour guideAbstrakKeberhasilan pengembangan desa wisata dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor. Pelibatan masyarakat dan semua elemen pendukung dalam mengembangkan desa wisata menjadi faktor utama penentu kesuksesan desa wisata itu sendiri. Oleh karena itu, pemberdayaan masyarakat menjadi solusi alternatif sebagai upaya untuk mengembangkan desa wisata. Desa Bendosari yang terletak di wilayah Kecamatan Plantungan Kabupaten Kendal merupakan destinasi wisata yang mulai dilirik oleh para wisatawan karena desa ini memiliki potensi wisata yang menarik bernama Curug Jeglong yang dikelilingi hutan pinus di sekelilingnya. Pemberdayaan yang paling memungkinkan bagi remaja Desa Bendosari untuk menunjang keberhasilan pengembangan desa wisata adalah pemandu wisata. Namun, pengetahuan dan keterampilan yang dimiliki remaja dalam hal keepemanduwisataan dan bahasa Inggris bagi pemandu wisata sangat terbatas, sehingga perlu diadakan pelatihan kepemanduwisataan dan bahasa Inggris bagi pemandu wisata. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan ini adalah ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab, drilling, dan role play. Hasil yang dicapai dari kegiatan ini, yaitu pemahaman peserta pelatihan tentang kepemanduwisataan meningkat. Dari kegiatan pelatihan bahasa Inggris bagi pemandu wisata, kemampuan bahasa Inggris sederhana telah mereka kuasai dengan baik.Kata Kunci: pemberdayaan remaja, desa wisata, pemandu wisata

Abstract

The main aim of this research is to identify the types of Figure of Speeches in Sam Smith’s songs’ lyrics in the album The Thrill of It All, to identify the Figure of Speech most dominant in Sam Smith’s songs’ lyrics in the album The Thrill of It All, and to find out the contributions of Sam Smith’s songs’ lyrics in the album The Thrill of It All in teaching Poetry. This research is a qualitative research which analyzes the Figure of Speech Analysis of The Thrill of It All Album by Sam Smith using Perrine’s Theory and It’s Contribution of Teaching Poetry. Documentary research is used to collect the data, not only collecting and writing in quoting form but also finding the result of the analysis of the document. The data of the research are analyzed by listening, reading, identifying, classifying, calculating, and making a table of the data. The result indicated that the writer found 8 kinds of figures of Speech which are found in The Thrill of It All song’s album by Sam Smith. They are metaphor (7.8%), personification (6.2%), apostrophe (3.8%), synecdoche (3.8%), symbol (50.4%), paradox (7%), hyperbole (16.3%), and irony (4.7%). Then, the most dominant Figure of Speech that is used in songs lyrics is Symbol with a percentage 50.4%. The contributions such as this song lyrics could be the media to enhance the knowledge of Poetry, that could attract the student by reading the content of it and improve knowledge of the students of Poetry.

Abstract

Promotion is one of successful keys on business; and so on business of tourism village. Nongkosawit tourism village which is located on sub-district Gunungpati, Semarang city Central Java is one of local tourism village that has several tourism destination to be developed. It has big problem on promoting its beautiful part of tourism destination. Besides, it has these following problems to be solved: 1). Nongkosawit tourism village is not promoting abroad yet, so it is just visited by local and domestic tourists; 2). The villagers do not use social media yet to promote it creatively; and 3). The villagers do not well-know information technology yet to make promotion media through social media world-wide. On conducting this service, the team made 2 sessions: workshop and guidance by the workshop to the audiens from tourism management department (Pokdarwis) and youth department (karang taruna) Nongkosawit village. They got workshop about how to make a video Canva-based and using an or some appropriate hashtag as its caption of the video. Hashtag is something important to be written because it is the “keywords” and also “address” of viewers when they want to look for a specific information, such as tourism village on semarang, etc. trending topic can also be found by clicking the correct hashtag, so hashtag is something that must be mastered by they who are on tourism village business. The aims of this public service are: 1) training the audiens to produce something related to technology-based media that can invite abroad visitors; 2) training the audiens to create a video to be uploaded on their social media; and 3) getting the audiens and information technology closer to promote Nongkosawit tourism village abroad. From this public service activity, the team can also publish its activity on seminar namely SNHP 2023 and 3 electronic news papers.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine the significant difference in students reading skills before and after being introduced the word game taboo words media for seven grade students grade A at SMP N 3 Blora. The research methodology us a quantitative pre-experimental research design. The sample was 30 students, the instrument for research there were a pre-test and post-test. The researcher employed Indonesian KKM (Minimum Completeness Criteria) with the KKM score of 75 as the standard. Pre- test result were only 56,4 % met the KKM standards, and the post -test results were 78,2% accomplishing the KKM standards. The researcher also employed the Paired sample t-test to ascertain whether or not the significant difference students reading skill before and after being introduced the Word Game Taboo Words Media and to show the effectiveness improving after introduced the treatment. In this case, the paired sample t-test were 000,< 0,01. It indicates that there was a significant difference in Improving reading skill of descriptive text before and after being introduced the Word game taboo words media.
