Abstract

Every Muslim believes that the Qur'an is the main source of Islamic teachings. The foregoing is a compulsory religious doctrine, and one cannot be called a good Muslim if he/she violates that belief. Thus, every Islamic educational institution must really make the Qur'an the main material which must be studied, and more specifically in the boarding school education. Reading or reciting, writing, memorizing, and making the Qur’an the life’s guidance are of the competencies that Muslim children must acquire. Hence, how is the interest of students from the Arrahmah Islamic Boarding School of Curup, Bengkulu, in memorizing the Qur'an? The foregoing became a major problem in this study whose answer had to be found by means of a qualitative approach. For the sake of garnering the accurate data, the researcher used interview and direct observation techniques conducted in the Arrahmah Islamic boarding school of Curup, Bengkulu. The present study revealed some internal and external factors influencing students’ interest in memorizing the Qur’an. Furthermore, the teachers’ efforts to increase students’ interest in memorizing the Qur’an fell into several ways: giving motivation, instilling habits to rehearse memorization/muraja'ah, maintaining good manners, increasing religious guidance activities, giving assignments, adding time allocation of learning, and improving the learning media and resources.Keywords: interest, memorizing the Qur’an, Islamic Boarding School students

Abstract

This study aimed to find out a depiction of principal’s efforts to increase community’s interest in sending their children to SMP Negeri 21 Rejang Lebong in the midst of competition wherein there are many schools in the region. This study used a qualitative approach with the school principal and teachers as the key informants. This study used observation, interviews, and documentation techniques to collect the data. After the data were collected, the data were subsequently analyzed using Miles’ et al approach extending to data reduction, data presentation, and verification as well as drawing conclusions. This study revealed that so that the efforts made to by increase the interest of new students attending SMPN 21 Rejang Lebong included: Improving the quality of schools in terms of both learning and services, completing school facilities and infrastructure, promoting schools by distributing brochures, providing information to neighboring teachers and making billboard displayed in front of schools presenting the school's superior activities.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out a portrayal of the principal's strategies in improving educational quality at SDN 81 in Lebong Regency, Bengkulu. This study used a qualitative approach with engaging the principal of SDN 81 of Lebong as the key informant. Data collection techniques deployed observation and interviews. Subsequently, the analysis of data adapted Miles’ et al approach subsuming data selection, data display, verification, and conclusion drawing. This study concluded that the principal’s strategies included ways to improve the qualities of teachers alongside students’ academic and non-academic achievements. The strategic implementation extended to involving teachers in training activities and seminars on education, conducting tutoring activities (bimbel), providing special remedial and extracurricular activities in the form of sports and arts development, organizing Try-Out, and providing additional learning hours for students who would take National Examination, School Exams, and others. In addition, in improving facilities and infrastructure, some activities were done such as planning the required facilities and procuring as well as maintaining facilities and infrastructure through BOS funds.
