Abstract

Decent water consumption has a characteristic of colorless, odorless, tasteless and no solids dissolved. One of the heavy metals that harmful to health body if excessive contained in water is Iron (III) (Fe(III). The method used in 2 main stages for analyzing of Fe (III) content those were determination standard curve and Fe (III) content in water with UV-Vis spectrophotometer at 480 nm wavelength. The result of this research showed that Fe (III) content in water in 10 samples of well water in Tanggulangin sub-district of Sidoarjo regency is quite feasible for daily use because the result of Fe (III) all sample were < 0,3 mg / L, its based on maximum concentration iron in drinking water as the Minister of Health Decree No.907 / MENKES / SK / VII / 2002.

Abstract

Abstract: Worldwide number of adolescents diagnosed with diabetes mellitus has increased everyyear means that a prevention to reduce the prevalence of diabetes mellitus is required. The aim ofthis study was to determine the prevalence of diabetes mellitus risk in adolescents in Sidoarjo city,East Java and Diabetes Mellitus risk factors. Total population used in this study is composed by 150men and women aged 15–20 years who reside in various locations in Sidoarjo city. The obtaineddata were analyzed descriptively with cross-sectional design. The results showed the prevalence ofdiabetes risk in adolescents in Sidoarjo is about 42% with average glucose levels 104.35 ± 13.01mg/dl. The prevalence of non-diabetes mellitus in adolescents is 58% with the average glucose79.26 ± 7.01 mg/dl. The risk factor which lead to high risk of diabetes mellitus is fast-food consumption (71%), soft drink consumption (31%) and smoking (5%).

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Collagen has vital role on healing process of burn injuries, mainly in connective tissue.Collagen triggers fibroblast proliferation, support to form new granulation tissue and epithelium aroundwound. Wound treatment through collagen extract of Sangkuriang catfish skin can increase healing process.It stimulates humidity on level II burn injuries and encourage re-epithelization, proliferation and cellmigration also increases growth. Methods: This is an experimental studies using 4 groups of RattusNorvegicus (Wistar strain). All of the group get a burn injuries in their back skin. Control group 1 (K1) wastreated by lidocaine for three days and control group 2 (K2) for ten days. Whereas treatment group 1 (P1) getlidocaine and collagen extract from Sangkuriang cat fish for 3 days and treatment group 2 (P2) for 10 days.Result: Number of fibroblast/field of view on treatment group showed significantly increased comparedcontrol groups on the 3rd days (P=0,046) and the 10th (P=0,004). Percentage of TNF-α on level II-burninjuries in wistar rats showed significant difference. Percentage of TNF-α lower than treatment group andshowed significant lowering level compared control groups on the10th (P=0,022). Conclusion: Increasing offiroblast number and lowering level of TNF-α significantly showed collagen extract of Sangkuriang cat fishskin accelerate wound healing process.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) monitoring kadar glukosa darah sebagai pencegahan Diabetes Melitus dilaksanakan pada tanggal 14 Mei 2018. Kegiatan PkM ini merupakan hasil kerjasama dengan kader kesehatan setempat dalam rangka meningkatkan kualitas kesehatan masyarakat di desa Gelang, Kecamatan Tulangan, Kabupaten Sidoarjo. Peserta Pkm diikuti oleh masyarakat umum terutama para Lansia. Pelaksanaan kegiatan PkM dilakukan dalam dua tahapan yaitu pemeriksaan glukosa darah dengan menggunakan Point of Care Testing (POCT) dan konsultasi kesehatan. Berdasarkan hasil pemeriksaan menunjukkan bahwa 79% masyarakat memiliki kadar glukosa normal. Namun, masyarakat yang memiliki resiko diabetes (prediabetes) mencapai 19% dan peserta yang terindikasi terkena Diabetes Melitus adalah 2%.

Abstract

Jabon sub-district was one of located affected by Lapindo mudflow that had effect in water quality causing environmental pollution. One of the indicators of water pollution was heavy metal Fe exceeded of Fe standard about 0,3mg/L. When Fe was accumulated in the body could make irritation on skin and eyes, respiratory symptom, and could be caused cancer in long term. The purpose of research was to know correlation between Fe levels of pond water with Nile tilapia fish and Milkfish. This research used 10 samples of pond water, Nile tilapia fish and Milkfish were taken at same location in pond area of Jabon Sub-district. Analyzed of Fe was using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Based on the result indicated that Fe levels of pond water in Jabon sub-district was lower than Fe standard with mean about 0,015±0,445mg/L. Meanwhile Fe levels of Nile tilapia fish and Milkfish had mean about 4,783±0,444mg/kg and 6,6589±2,845mg/kg those were higher than Fe standard (> 0.5 mg/kg). It could be indicated that fish meat of Nile tilapia  fish and Milkfish were contaminated by Fe.Therefore, the results of pearson correlation test were shown no correlation between Fe levels of ponds water with Nile tilapia fish and Milkfish.

Abstract

Cancer is a non-communicable disease that causes morbidity and mortality in all regions of the world. Cancer treatment is important in reducing the high number of deaths (mortality) due to cancer sufferers. One of the cancer treatments is using chemotherapy drug cisplatin. However, cisplatin drug has side effects, namely nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, neurotoxicity, hemotoxicity, cardiotoxicity, and hepatotoxicity. Therefore, the combination of cisplatin in albumin nanoparticles and modification of the bond using folic acid as an alternative solution minimizes the resulting toxic effects. This study aimed to determine the toxicity effect of the cisplatin drug formulation with a combination of bovine serum albumin (BSA) nanoparticles and folic acid through the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. The research methods used were BSA nanoparticle synthesis (NP-BSA), NP-BSA Synthesis with Cisplatin Drug (CP-NP-BSA), Folic Acid Synthesis with CP-NP-BSA Combination (As-CP-NP-BSA). Then, a toxicity test was carried out using the BSLT method to determine the toxicity level of BSA nanoparticles and the effect of adding folic acid in the cisplatin drug in the nanoparticles. The results showed that the absorbance of the 358 nm As-CP-NP-BSA UV-Vis spectrophotometer was 0.86. The toxicity level of the NP-BSA with the LC50 value was 69.23 ppm while the As-CP-NP-BSA LC50 toxicity level was 56.56 ppm. Nanoparticles consisting of a combination of bovine serum albumin, cisplatin and folic acid can be used as candidates for anticancer drugs

Abstract

Background: Vitamin D deficiency could increase the risk of of cancer, autoimmune reaction, cardiovascular disorders, and diabetes mellitus. Objective: The aims of study is to determining effectivity of sunbathing therapy in the morning on blood glucose levels of respondents whose indicated diabetes mellitus type 2. Methods: The study was an quasy experimental study that used 20 respondents whose indicated diabetes mellitus type 2. Afterwards, respondents divided into two group such as control group with no therapy intervention and treatment group with intervention of sunbathing therapy in the morning. Blood glucose levels of each respondent was tested using point of care testing (POCT) on pre and post therapy. Member of treatment group did sunbathing therapy in the morning for 10 minutes in a week. Results: Based on this research showed that blood glucose levels on treatment group lower than control group. Treatment group obtained blood glucose levels from 316,1 ± 99,3 mg/dl decrease into 210,9 ± 81,9 mg/dl significantly (p <0,05) after therapy carried out. But, on control group obtained blood glucose levels from 299,1 ± 75,2 increase into 373,1 ± 68,1 mg/dl significantly (p <0,05). Conclusion: Sunbathing therapy in the morning for 10 minutes had effect to decrease blood glucose levels

Abstract

Dug well water is one of the clean water supplies in the village. Contamination often occursdue to one of the bacteria, namely E. coli due to proximity to the septic tank. Several types of bacteriahave been found to have resistance to antibiotics including E.coli. The purpose of this study was todetermine the sensitivity of E.coli isolated from dug well water close to the septic tank againstciprofloxacin. This study used the Kirby-Bauer Diffusion method. The samples in this study were 18dug well water close to the septic tank taken at Village Gelang of RW 01, Tulangan, Sidoarjo. The dataobtained would be analyzed descriptively. Based on the results of the study showed that there were 11samples of positive E.coli wells from 18 wells. E.coli sensitively resulted from 11 samples againstciprofloxacin showed the formation of inhibition zones around the MHA media. The results of thisstudy stated that the well water close to the septic tank is of poor quality because it contains E. coli andis harmful to health if consumed

Abstract

The Culex mosquito acts as a vector for elephantiasis or is called filariasis. As an efforts tostop a chain of mosquito spread. The eradication by using chemicals could endanger human health.Therfore, need to make natural insecticides from plants. The aims of study is to determine the effect ofsqueezed water leek (Allium fistulosum L.) to inhibit of Culex sp mosquito larvae. The research was anexperimental method with a complete randomized design. As a control group used without squeezedwater leek, intervention group divided into 10% and 20% concentrations of squeezed water leek. Eachgroup was done with 9 times repetition. Ten Culex mosquito larvae put into each glass of concentration0%, 10%, 20% of squeezed water leek for 24 hours. Afterwards, dead larvaes were counted. Theresults of study showed the mortality of Culex sp mosquito larvae for about 0,56 ± 0,72% for controlgroup, 3,78 ± 0,66% for 10% concentration of leek juice, 5,22 ± 1,20 % for 20% concentration ofsqueezed water leek. Based on the result of Kruskal-Wallis test, showed there were a significant effect,between concentration of squeezed water leek to inhibit a larvae mosquito live, with P value 0,000.While the results of Mann-Withney test for each group showed P value < 0,05. The conclusion of thestudy was, consentration of squeezed water leek (Allium fistulosum L.) had a killing power effectCulex sp. Mosquito larvae.

Abstract

Penggunaan bahan herbal sampai saat ini masih digunakan untuk mengurangi obat-obatan kimia, salah satu penggunaan obat herbal yaitu menggunakan teh, konsumsi the baik untuk Kesehatan namun perlu diperhatikan penggunaan gula untuk menghindari diabetes. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilakukan dilakukan di RT Medokan Sawah Timur, Rungkut, Surabaya pada tahun 2024 yang dihadiri oleh 30 peserta. Metode pengabdian yang dilakukan yaitu dengan pendekatan melalui sosialisasi untuk pemahaman penyakit minum the herbal, manfaat pemahaman dilakukan dengan sosialisasi dilakukan pendekatan kembali terkait tingkat pemahaman, selanjutnya dilakukan pemeriksaan urine. Berdasarkan hasil pengabdian kepada masyarakat di RT Medokan Sawah Timur sebanyak 30 responden didapatkan hasil pemahaman tentang pentingnya teh herbal yaitu sebesar 50% persen peningkatan pemahaman setelah dilakukan sosialisasi, dan berdasarkan hasil pemeriksaan glukosa pada urine didapatkan hasil 1 orang yang positif dari 30 responden.
