Abstract

Writing is sometimes neglected taught by the teacher due to the limitation of the time provided. Besides, in teaching writing, teacher tends to avoid the religious values in teaching writing persuasive text in order to build students’ character. However, students are required to master writing in order to express the idea or information in communication. Therefore, this  study  is an attempt to study the religious values in teaching writing persuasive text. The population of this study was  all of the eleventh graders of SMA Negeri 1 Kandis  Ogan Ilir. The samples were chosen by purposive sampling method.  As a result, two classes consisting of thirty students  in each classes were selected as the samples. The qualitative approach was used in this study and  observation  is the main instrument used to get the  data about the process of teaching writing persuasive text. The observation done from the beginning to ending of  teaching and learning process of writing persuasive text. Based on the observation, it was indicated  that the students were interested in learning writing persuasive text and got some religious values to build their characters. In addition, the students were eager to write persuasive text because of interesting materials. They could explore their idea freely by writing the main information and writing information explaining the religious values in writing persuasive text. By teaching writing persuasive text including the religious values, hopefully the teacher of English can select the material and content of the subject matter which infused the religious values during the classroom.

Abstract

This study tried find the students’ improvement in listening achievement after having taught by using the shadowing technique. The method used was a quasi-experimental that involved two groups, namely the control group and experimental group. The population of this study was all the tenth graders of SMA Negeri 3 Unggulan Kayuagung with a total number of 198 tenth graders. Purposive sampling method was applied to select the sample involved 72 tenth graders. In collecting the data, try out the test was used to get the desirable questions that would be used in the pretest and posttest to both groups in the control and experimental group. To verify the hypothesis, the normality and homogeneity of the data were firstly analyzed before being continued to be analyzed by using a t-test. Based on the result of data analysis in an independent sample t-test, there were some findings found. First, the mean score of a posttest (75.56) in the experimental group was higher than the pretest (69.03) in the control group. Secondly, the value of tobtained was 2.77 at the significant level of p<0.05 in two-tailed testing with df = 70, the critical value of ttable was 1.99. Since the value of tobtained was higher than ttable, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the research hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, it showed that the shadowing technique could improve the tenth-grade students’ listening achievement at SMA Negeri 3 Unggulan Kayuagung.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out students’ difficulties faced by the Eight Grade Students at SMP N3 Tanjung Raja in Comprehending English reading text. The method was used descriptive qualitative research. The participants of this study was all of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Tanjung Raja. The technique for collecting the data was multiple choice. Based on the result, it was found that the percentage of difficulty in indicator not clearly stated information was 55.90%, the percentage of difficulty in indicator reference of the text was 59.54%, the percentage of difficulty in indicator find moral value of the text was 64.23%, the percentage of difficulty in indicator find the deducing meaning was 55.27%, the percentage of difficulty in indicator find the specific information was 56.35%, the percentage of difficulty in indicator find the detailed information was 67.05%, and the percentage of difficulty in indicator find the main idea was 54.81%

Abstract

Writing is regarded as a challenging subject in school. At the same time, it was a critical skill for students to master because it is so important in this age of globalization. This study aimed to find out whether or not the Flower Writing Strategy was effective to be used in teaching writing descriptive text. The quasi-experimental method was used in this study. The sample of the study was 68 students taken by using the purposive sampling technique. The data was gained by using a written test. The data were analyzed by using a t-test. Based on the result of the independent sample t-test, it was found that t-obtained (3.439) was higher than ttable (1.9955) and pvalue (0.001) was less than άvalue (0.05). It meant that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) were accepted. Hence, Flower Writing Strategy was effective to be used in teaching descriptive text.

Abstract

The goal of this study determined a relationship between students' knowledge of the simple past tense and their ability to create a recount text in tenth-grade pupils of SMA N 07 Ogan Ilir. The study's participants were all Tenth-Grade Students at SMA N 07 Ogan Ilir. A total of 86 students were present in the population. The sample consisted of 86 students who were chosen using a total sampling technique. This investigation was carried out using correlation research. The data was administered through simple past tense mastery test and writing recount text. Pearson Product Moment correlation was employed to analyze the data.The correlation coefficient, or r-obtained (0.325), was found higher than r-table (0.176), with a p-value of 0.0020.05. It meant that learners' grasp of the simple past tense and their ability to write recount texts were related. It is possible to conclude that students' knowledge of the simple past tense has a significant impact on their ability to write recount material.

Abstract

Writing is one of the four skills taught in the school which is used as communication in daily life. It is considered as a difficult subject by the eleventh grade of the senior high school students because of the limitation of the time provided and some aspects of language to be considered. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in students’ writing achievement of persuasive text between the students who were taught by using Self-Regulated Strategy Development and that of those who were not. By conducting a quasi-experimental investigation at senior high school level in South Sumatera, Indonesia, two classes consisting of thirty students in each class at SMA Negeri 1 Kandis were chosen as the samples by using purposive sampling method. To analyze the data, the t-test was used. The result findings showed that t-obtained (3.29) was higher than t-table (2.0017) at the significance level of p-value was lower than 0.05. It indicated that there was a significant difference in students’ writing achievement of writing persuasive text between the students who were taught by using Self-Regulated Strategy Development and that of those who were not. The students who were taught by using Self-Regulated Strategy Development had better improvement in their writing persuasive text because the students could write the persuasive text well based on the Self-Regulated Strategy Development which applied POW (pick, organize, write)  and TREE  (topic, reasons, explanation, ending).

Abstract

The paper sought to explore whether there was a substantial alteration in writing procedure text achievement among seventh-grade students at SMPN 1 Sungai Pinang when utilizing YouTube. All the seventh-grade students from SMPN 1 Sungai Pinang in the academic year 2022/2023 were a population. It took fifty-eight students to become the sample. Two groups were formulated, namely experimental and control. A quasi-experimental design was carried out. Written test in the form of an essay, was reported twice as a pre-test and post-test. Formerly, the students were provided with five topics and crafted a procedure text. The scores were then examined using the t-test. SPSS version 26 was spent to calculate it. The independent sample t-test revealed that t-obtain was greater than t-table. The probability value was less than the alpha value. It caused the null hypothesis to be excluded while the alternative hypothesis was established. Hence, there was a substantial variance in writing performance between students who used YouTube and those who did not.
