Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in writing achievement between students who were taught through COPS strategy and that of those who were not. The sample of the study was 71 students of SMP N 1 Sungai Pinang Ogan Ilir. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample. Written test was used to collect the data which consisted of five topics. T-test was used to analyze the data. Based on the result, it was found that the t-obtained (6.450) was higher than t-table (1.950) and the àvalue (0.000) was lower than Pvalue (0.05), the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It meant that there was a significant difference in writing achievement between students who were taught by through COPS Strategy and that of those were not. Thus, COPS strategy can be used to teach writing skill.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in reading comprehension between the students who were taught by using THIEVES (Title, Heading, Introduction, Every first sentence, Visual, End of paragraph, Summary) strategy and that of those who were not.The quasi-experimental method was used to conduct the research. The population of the study was all of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Teluk Gelam. In this study, the purposive sampling method was used.The total numbers of the samples were 62 students. The instrument of this research was 30 questions about recount text in the form of multiple-choice test. To analyze the data, t-test was used. Based on the result of independent sample t-test, the value of tobtained was 3.718 at significance level p<0.05 in two-tailed testing and df=60, the critical value of ttable was 2.0003. Since the value of tobtained (3.718) was higher than ttable (2.0003) and pvalue (0.000) was less than αvalue 0.05, it meant that there was a significant difference in reading comprehension between the students who were taught using THIEVES strategy and that of those who were not. Hence, THIEVES strategy could improve the eighth-grade students’ reading skill at SMP Negeri 2 Teluk Gelam.

Abstract

This study aimed to consider whether there was a significant difference in speaking skill between students who were taught using the Mingle game and those who were not.This research was conducted using a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of two groups: X MIPA 2 (experimental group) and X MIPA 3 (control group), which were chosen using a purposive sampling process. The data was collected using an oral test.The t-test was used to evaluate the results. The outcome of the independent sample t-test indicated that tobtained (3.96) was higher than the critical value of ttable (1.99), indicating that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) accepted. It was determined that there was a significant difference in speaking ability between students who were taught using the Mingle game and those who were not.

Abstract

The goal of this study determined a relationship between students' knowledge of the simple past tense and their ability to create a recount text in tenth-grade pupils of SMA N 07 Ogan Ilir. The study's participants were all Tenth-Grade Students at SMA N 07 Ogan Ilir. A total of 86 students were present in the population. The sample consisted of 86 students who were chosen using a total sampling technique. This investigation was carried out using correlation research. The data was administered through simple past tense mastery test and writing recount text. Pearson Product Moment correlation was employed to analyze the data.The correlation coefficient, or r-obtained (0.325), was found higher than r-table (0.176), with a p-value of 0.0020.05. It meant that learners' grasp of the simple past tense and their ability to write recount texts were related. It is possible to conclude that students' knowledge of the simple past tense has a significant impact on their ability to write recount material.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate if POE (Predict, Observe, Explain) strategy influenced students' reading ability when reading an exposition text. This study was conducted using an experimental design. Purposive sampling was used to select the sample. The sample consisted of 42 students. The research instrument was a multiple-choice test with 40 questions about the exposition text. A t-test was used to analyze the data. Based on the independent sample t-test, the value of t- obtained was -6.793 at significance level p<0.005 in the two-tailed testing and df=40, the critical value of t-table was 2.0210. Since the value of t-obtain (-6.793) was higher than t-table (2.0210) and p-value (0.00) was less than the α value (0.05), it meant that Predict, Observe, Explain strategy helped students learn quickly to understand the content of the text.

Abstract

The research aim was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in students' writing performance from descriptive passage among learners who practiced using the Process Writing Approach and those who were not. The design of that research used quasi-experimental. Participants were selected from X TKJ 3 being the experimental group and X TKJ 2 being the control group. Instruments of this study used a written test. There were five topics about the descriptive text in which students chose one of the issues. A paired sample t-test and independent-sample t-test were used to investigate the data. The outcome acquired from the paired sample t-test confirmed that students' writing achievement increased in the descriptive text after using the process writing approach. Independent-samples t-test analysis revealed that pvalue  (0.008) was lower than άvalu (0.05). Further analysis indicated a significant difference in students' writing performance from a descriptive passage within learners who practiced using the Process Writing Approach.

Abstract

Reading is the manner of grasping the content of a paragraph of text. Nonetheless, some students are fighting to strengthen reading comprehension. This study proposed to confirm whether Young Adult literature improved students’ reading ability in narrative text. The design of that research was used quasi-experimental. Participants were eight grade students of SMP N 1 Inderalaya Selatan Ogan Ilir South Sumatera. The instrument used was a written test that included 25 questions in multiple-choice form. T-test was used to examine the data. Independent samples t-test analysis revealed that pvalue (0.001) was lower than άvalue (0.05). This study was indicated that learners who were encouraged to read narrative literature through Young Adult Literature improved significantly. In conclusion, the students improved their reading ability better by reading extensively through Young Adult Literature.

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in writing achievement between the students who were taught by using Edmodo application and that of those who were not. The method used in this study was quasi experimental method. The purposive sampling technique was used to select the samples. Therefore, the number of the students was 60 students which divided into two groups. To determine the experimental and control groups, flip of coin was used. Consequently, class IPS 1 was the experimental group while class IPS 2 was be control groups and each of them consisted of 30 students. In collecting the data, the written test essay was administered. To analyze the data, t-test was used. Based on the calculation of the independent sample test, it was found that t-obtained (14.511) was higher than t-table (2.001) and pvalue (0.000) was less than αvalue (0.05). It meant that the null hyphothesis (H0) was rejected and alternative hyphothesis (Ha) was accepted. In other words, there was a significant difference between the students who were taught using Edmodo application and that of those who were not.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI Pedamaran who were taught using the Online Reading Strategy and those who were not. Quasi-experimental method was used in this study. To collect data, a written test was in the form of multiple choice questions. The test was tried out in order to find out the reliability of the test. Before analyzing the data, normality and homogeneity were found. To analyze the data, t-test was used. Based on the results of the independent sample t-test, it was found that the t-test obtained (2.917) was higher than the t-table (2.00) and the Pvalue (0.000) was less than ɑ value (0.05). It showed that null hypotheses (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypotheses (Ha) was accepted. It meant that there was a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the students who were taught by using Online Reading Strategy and those who were not. In other words, online reading strategy improved the reading comprehension achievement of eighth graders of SMP PGRI Pedamaran.

Abstract

The paper sought to explore whether there was a substantial alteration in writing procedure text achievement among seventh-grade students at SMPN 1 Sungai Pinang when utilizing YouTube. All the seventh-grade students from SMPN 1 Sungai Pinang in the academic year 2022/2023 were a population. It took fifty-eight students to become the sample. Two groups were formulated, namely experimental and control. A quasi-experimental design was carried out. Written test in the form of an essay, was reported twice as a pre-test and post-test. Formerly, the students were provided with five topics and crafted a procedure text. The scores were then examined using the t-test. SPSS version 26 was spent to calculate it. The independent sample t-test revealed that t-obtain was greater than t-table. The probability value was less than the alpha value. It caused the null hypothesis to be excluded while the alternative hypothesis was established. Hence, there was a substantial variance in writing performance between students who used YouTube and those who did not.
