Abstract

The aims of this research are to describe the students’ interest toward PALP, the students’ motivation toward PALP, and to describe the social factors affects to students’ interest and motivation.The type of the research is descriptive research. The research subject was the second semester of PBI students in Ahmad Dahlan University in the academic year 2016/ 2017. There were 10 groups of PALP as the sample. The researcher used questionnaire, observation sheet and interview guide to gather the data. In analyzing the data the researcher used quantitative method.Based on the research, it is found that; first the students’ interest toward PALP is in high category based on impression (75% were agree), confidence (82% were agree in a group of PALP, 85 % were agree in the class), learning atmosphere (84% were agree), excitement (81% were agree), new knowledge (73% were agree) and language skill (78% were agree). Secondly, the students’ motivation toward PALP is in high category based on mentees’ individual competency in PALP based on how often they are expressing opinion (79% were agree), responding the question (80% were agree), and asking question (61% were agree). And the third, there were four social factors affecting students’ interest and motivation. The social factor were positive learning atmosphere (84% were agree), the second was friend (80% were agree). The third was mentor (72% were agree).  The last was the place (55% were agree). The job, gender and distance factor did not affect students’ interest and motivation toward PALP.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find out the types of expressive speech act and the forms of expressive speech act in Mata NajwaTalkshow: Lakon Politik Republik Episode. It is interesting to analyze expressive speech since all the human beings are given a feeling by God and they tend to express their psychological feeling. Feeling is strictly related to expressive speech act. Kreidler and Frank’s theory about expressive speech act was used in this research .This research belongs to qualitative. Furthermore, the data of this research are the utterances containing expressive speech act in Mata Najwa Talkshow: Lakon Politik Republik Episode. In collecting the data, the researchers decide to use documentation technique.  The four researchers analyze the data by identifyingand classifying the data into types and forms of expressive speech act.  The results are 13 types of expressive speech act and 2 forms of expressive speech act are found in this research. The types are thanking, regretting, apologizing, praising, liking, disliking, approving, disapproving, condoling, criticizing, boasting, lamenting, blaming. The forms of expressive speech act found by the researchers are declarative and interrogative.

Abstract

This study is aimed at finding out the distribution of higher order thinking skill questions, describing the specific cognitive processes demonstrated under HOTS questions, and finding out the portion of HOTS questions in two school examination packages in Bima. Content analysis was used to examine 86 reading comprehension test items in school final examination using Bloom’s taxonomy revised version. Qualitative data analysis was applied to the reading comprehension question items. Public documentation, indirect observation and a semi-structured interview were performed to collect the data. Data source were collected from reading comprehension test items and analysis card. In analyzing the data, qualitative analysis of Miles, Huberman, & Saldana (2014) model with three phases was applied. The findings indicated the distribution of higher order thinking skill questions are lower than lower order thinking skill questions. HOTS only obtain 6 out of 86 questions while the rest of questions are indicated as LOTS. Analyze skill has the highest distribution among HOTS skills: 4 questions, evaluate skill has 2 questions, while create skill is not found. On the contrary, the most used specific cognitive processes in the whole questions are interpreting and recognizing skill with the frequency of 18 questions, and differentiating and critiquing skills frequently appear in the test as the specific cognitive processes of HOTS questions
