The aims of this experiment were to study the physical and chemical properties of meat of Brahman Cross, Angus and Murray Grey cattle. Forty cattle consist of Brahman Cross, Angus and Murray Grey were used in this study. All animals were kept in feedlot with ad libitum ration and water. Data were analyzed by using covariance analysis. Result shows that breeds were significantly influenced of physical and chemical properties of meat. The Murray Grey meat was tenderness (P<0,05) than Angus and Bra Bram Brahmantiyo

Abstract

Selection based on weaning weight in Rex, Satin rabbits and their crosses was done to improve its productivity. Data from the base population (P0), selected population (G0) and an offspring of selected population (F1) were used to estimate heritability using nested analysis method (nested) and best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP). The value of heritability estimated of birth weight, weaning weight, 12 weeks body weight and 16 weeks body weight of Rex were 0.74±0.09, 0.93±0.05, 0.81±0.09 and 0.89±0.06, Satin were 0.96, 0.82±0.22, 0.93±0.40 and 0.97 and Reza were 0.96±0.27, 0.98, 0.86±0.40 dan 0.78, respectively. Increase in weaning weight on selected Rex, Satin rabbits and their corsses were 22.77 g (3.66%), 6.83 g (1.11%) and 65.29 g (10.67%). Key Words: Selection, Rabbit, Heritability, Weaning Weight

Abstract

Rabbit productivity in intensive management to be evaluated considering development in the rabbit farming were rapidly increased. Rex, Satin and their crossbred (Reza) rabbits have been developed in Research Institute for Animal Production and productivity information of each breed can be used as basis for policy or model of cultivation and breeding in the community. Research conducted by evaluating the productivity of growth, carcass and the carcass proportion of the three strains of rabbit. Rex and satin growth were no different, and Reza was higher at 12-14 weeks of age. Carcass production comes from cutting the rabbit at the age of six months, this trait is strongly influenced by the weight of rabbits, and Reza gives the lowest performance compared to Rex and Satin. Rex, Satin and Reza were medium type rabbits with dual-purpose product (fur and meat). These rabbits showed the child's growth is good enough, to adapt the environment temperature and high food and have adequate carcass production. Key Words: Rabbit, Rex, Satin, Reza, Growth, Carcass

Abstract

New Zealand White rabbits (NZW) has been known as broiler rabbit that has been well adapted in Indonesia. HyCole rabbits were imported from France that were selected for high reproduction and growth rate. This study was aimed to evaluate the productivity of HyCole and New Zealand White rabbits and their reciprocal as the basis to develop broiler rabbit which adaptive to tropical climate. Forty heads of doe (PBPB) and 17 heads of buck (PAPA) of HyCole rabbit, and 30 heads of doe and 6 heads of buck of New Zealand White rabbits (NN) were used. The ration was given according to IRIAP standard ration (18 % CP, 2500 kcal ME/kg and 14 % CF). The diet was provided in the morning and the evening, and drinking water was provided ad libitum. Reproductive performance of does (litter size at birth, litter size at wean, mortality and weekly does body weight) and the kit’s growth performance (weekly body weight from weaning until the age of 20 weeks) were evaluated. Data were analyzed using the SAS program (SAS 2001). Rabbits growth data were periodically analyzed by Gompertz model (Blasco & Gomez 1993). HyCole rabbit which was bred in Indonesia had production performance better than NZW rabbit and PAN crossbred (HyCole bucks x NZW does) had the potential to be bred as superior rabbit adaptive to tropical climate because they had hybrid vigor of the number of litter size at birth and kit’s growth rate.

Abstract

Study on the morphometric characteristic of sambar deer (Rusa unicolor) which will be used as a baseline of growth trait selection had been conducted. The aim of this study is to set up criteria for better selection of sambar deer progeny. Morphometric characteristic observed in this study including : body weight, body length, chest width, chest girth, head length, head width, ear width, and ear length respectively. Result indicated that chest girth correlates significantly with the body weight (y=-108.004+1.875x). In conclusion chest girth can be used as a criteria for selection of growth trait of sambar deer.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to assess morphometric characteristics, breeds relationship andvariables that distinguished among breeds of rabbits raised in West Java. This research used 419 rabbitsconsisted of Angora (AG), Dutch (DT), Flemish Giant (FG), Lop (LP), Netherland Dwarf (ND), Composite(PX), Rex (RX), Satin (ST), Reza (XA) and New Zealand White (ZW). Head length (PK), head width (LK), earlength (PTL), ear width (LTL), chest width (LD), chest depth (DD), chest circumference (LKD), body length(PB ), hips width (LP), length of the scapula bone (PS), humerus length (PH), radius-ulna length (PRU),femur length (PF) and tibia length (PT) were observed. Data were analyzed with analysis of variance, discriminant and canonical analysis using SAS program ver. 9.1.3 and MEGA5 program to get theconstruction of phenogram tree. FG and ST rabbits were generally larger in size and shape than the otherrabbits breeds, while ND rabbit had the smallest morphological size than other rabbits breeds, except forLK, LD and DD. Results of discriminant analysis showed that LP, RX, ND and XA had a high similarityvalue, otherwise DT, FG, ST, PX, AG and ZW had no the value. The closest genetic distance matrix valueindicated by PX-ZW breeds (1,53) and the farthest genetic distance indicated by FG-ND breeds (6,62).Phenogram tree construction showed that the breeds rabbits divided into five clusters, namely cluster ND,DT; ST clusters; FG cluster; cluster LP, PX, ZW and cluster AG, XA, RX. Phenotypic size that had stronginfluence on the differentiation of rabbit breeds were PTL, LTL, PRU, PH and PF on the canonical 1 alsoPT and PS on canonical 2.
