Abstract

Grammar is central to the teaching and learning of languages. Grammar helps us in several phenomena.For example, if we want to translate sentence or paragraph into English, we need grammar in order to the meaning is clear and easy to understand. Grammar is often taught and learnt by every grade or level at a school or a course. Grammar is also one of difficult aspects of language to teach well. Because of that, the teacher must have the solution. Teacher has a significant role for this case because he or she is one of mediator of students getting knowledge. Teachers must have some good techniques for teaching grammar especially past tense, for example discussion. A research to know the effectiveness of teaching English Past Tense trough Discussion technique hasbeen conducted at the third grade of SD Pelita Insani Bogor. The data were collected through observation, intreview, teaching-learning process, pre-test and post-test. The implementation of technique was the students had to discuss about past tense material which has been prepared by the teacher in a group. Discussion technique makes the students share their knowledge with their friends. Using discussion can make the third grade students in SD Pelita Insani Bogor more easily understanding and using past tense correctly. The students of Pelita Insani also can do the post-test which is a mean to evaluate the technique and teaching-learning process well and become more active in the teaching-learning process. The result of the post-test showed that teaching English pasttense through discussion technique is one of good solution to improve the Pelita Insani’s students’ comprehend about past tense.

Abstract

The research aims to determine how teaching media and vocabulary mastery affects students'speaking skills at SMAN Kabupaten Cirebon. The population of this research was all students atSMA Negeri in Kabupaten Cirebon, speaking skills as part of English. The sample of thisresearch is taken based on the multiple-stage method with similar characteristics andprobability. In this research, the writer randomly takes the ten great students at SMA Negeri inKabupaten Cirebon into the sample; one experiment group and one control group. In thisresearch, there are two kinds of instruments: one is to measure the student's speaking skill, andthe other is to determine the student's learning styles. Data analysis used SPSS version 20, with asignificant level of = 0.05. The requirement analysis uses a normality test, homogeneity test, andtwo-way ANOVA. There is a significant interaction effect of teaching media and vocabularymastery on students' speaking skills. The value of Fo = 5.225 proves that, and Sig = 0.025<0.05. There is a significant effect of teaching media on students' speaking skills. That is provedby Fo = 13.822 and sig = 0.000 < 0.05. There is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery onstudents' speaking skills. That is proved by Fo = 36.140 and Sig. 0.000 > 0.05.

Abstract

The most challenging language element for students is pronunciation. Pronunciation or pronunciation is considered to be one of the factors in a person's success in speaking skills. The importance of pronunciation makes students experience difficulty in mastering it. Therefore, the aim of this community service activity is to provide an interactive and fun method for learning pronunciation skills, namely the ELSA Speak application. This community service activity was carried out at Hall RW 008 Kampung Buaran, Kalideres, West Jakarta. Participants in this activity are junior high school students who live in RW 008 Kampung Buaran, Kalideres, West Jakarta. A total of 25 students participated in this activity. The author used a pre-test and post-test to determine the effectiveness of using the ELSA Speak application. Data is collected through tests, questionnaires and interviews to assess students' abilities and perceptions. The results show that the ELSA Speak application is effective in improving pronunciation, as shown by the scoring of the application which is higher in the post-test compared to the pre-test. In addition, questionnaire responses strongly indicate that students consider the ELSA Speak app to be an effective method for learning pronunciation. The ELSA Speak application can help students when practicing pronunciation compared to their previous abilities. Elemen bahasa yang paling menantang bagi siswa adalah pengucapan. Pengucapan atau pronunciation dinilai  menjadi salah satu faktor kesuksesan seseorang dalam keterampilan berbicara. Pentingnya pengucapan membuat siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menguasainya. Oleh karena itu, tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk menyuguhkan metode yang interaktif dan menyenangkan dalam mempelajari keterampilan pengucapan yaitu aplikasi ELSA Speak. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Balai RW 008 Kampung Buaran, Kalideres, Jakarta Barat. Peserta kegiatan ini adalah siswa SMP yang tinggal di lingkungan RW 008 Kampung Buaran, Kalideres, Jakarta Barat. Sebanyak 25 siswa berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan ini. Penulis menggunakan pre-test dan post-test untuk mengetahui keefektifan penggunaan aplikasi ELSA Speak. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes, kuesioner, dan wawancara untuk menilai kemampuan dan persepsi siswa. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi ELSA Speak efektif dalam meningkatkan pengucapan, seperti yang ditunjukkan oleh score assessment pada aplikasi yang lebih tinggi pada post-test dibandingkan dengan pre-test. Selain itu, tanggapan kuesioner dengan kuat menunjukkan bahwa siswa menganggap aplikasi ELSA Speak sebagai metode yang efektif untuk belajar pengucapan. Aplikasi ELSA Speak dapat membantu siswa ketika berlatih pengucapan dibandingkan dengan kemampuan mereka sebelumnya.

Abstract

The research uses a qualitative method in which the writer watches the movie and analyzes the movie using the theory of ambition and Tourette Syndrome. The data in this research comes from the movie scenes and dialogues in the movie “Front of Class”. The results of the analysis imply that the main character is driven by a strong desire to demonstrate that individuals with Tourette syndrome can achieve success in the field of education. His determination is evident in his persistent efforts to apply to various schools, despite facing uncertainty and underestimation from those around him. The character's resilience in the face of these challenges highlights his commitment to pursuing his dreams, demonstrating not only his personal ambition but also a desire to challenge societal perceptions and prove that his condition does not limit his ability to teach.

Abstract

Abstract: This community service program was carried out by Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI) with the aim of strengthening digital skills and English proficiency among high school/vocational school graduates in order to improve their job readiness. The activity took place at Balai RW 08, Kalideres, and West Jakarta. This program was motivated by the condition of high school/vocational graduates in RW 08, most of whom come from lower-middle-income families and are therefore more inclined to enter the workforce directly rather than pursue higher education. Thus, training is needed to enhance practical skills relevant to industry requirements.The training focused on three main aspects, developing a professional curriculum vitae (CV), strategies for facing job interviews in both Indonesian and English, and practicing digital skills through the use of Canva for CV creation. Participants were actively engaged through interactive sessions, simulations, and collaborative exercises. The results of the program indicated increased awareness, confidence, and skills among participants in preparing themselves to enter the workforce. The conclusion of this program is that integrating digital literacy and English proficiency in community-based training can enhance the competitiveness of high school/vocational school graduates and make a tangible contribution to supporting their readiness for the job market. Keywords: english proficiency, job readiness, digital skills, community service, vocational education Abstrak: Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan oleh Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI) dengan tujuan memperkuat keterampilan digital dan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris lulusan SMA/SMK untuk meningkatkan kesiapan kerja. Kegiatan ini berlangsung di Balai RW 08, Kalideres, Jakarta Barat. Program ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kondisi lulusan SMA/SMK di RW 08 yang sebagian besar berasal dari keluarga ekonomi menengah ke bawah, sehingga cenderung lebih memilih langsung bekerja daripada melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang yang lebih tinggi. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pelatihan yang dapat meningkatkan keterampilan praktis sesuai kebutuhan industri.Pelatihan difokuskan pada tiga aspek utama: penyusunan curriculum vitae (CV) profesional, strategi menghadapi wawancara kerja dalam bahasa Indonesia maupun bahasa Inggris, serta keterampilan digital melalui penggunaan Canva untuk pembuatan CV. Peserta terlibat secara aktif melalui sesi interaktif, simulasi, dan latihan kolaboratif. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kesadaran, kepercayaan diri, dan keterampilan peserta dalam mempersiapkan diri menghadapi dunia kerja. Kesimpulannya, integrasi literasi digital dan kemampuan bahasa Inggris dalam pelatihan berbasis masyarakat dapat meningkatkan daya saing lulusan SMA/SMK serta memberikan kontribusi nyata dalam mendukung kesiapan mereka menghadapi pasar kerja.
