Abstract

Adolescents are prone to receive negative peer pressure. One of the main causes is the need of social acceptance. The aim of this study is to improve adolescents refusal skill and assertiveness to avoid negative peer pressure through experiential learning approach. Online training is carried out due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which makes face-to-face activities need to be restricted. The subjects of this study are 5 female students from three different schools in Jakarta, who were selected using purposive sampling method with Peer Pressure Inventory. Data were collected quantitatively using two different questionnaires which measure refusal skill, and assertiveness separatedly, while qualitative data were collected through observation and role-play activity. Wilcoxon signed ranked test was used to analyze the quantitative data, while the qualitative data were analyzed descriptively. The results show the significant increase of assertiveness among participants after joining the training, but not with their refusal skills. This may be caused by the limited time of practicing the refusal skill in real context. Overall, online refusal skill and assertiveness training is likely to be given amid the COVID-19 pandemic.Keywords: Adolescents, assertiveness, peer pressure, refusal skill Abstrak: Remaja rentan menerima dan terpengaruh oleh tekanan negatif dari teman sebaya. Salah satu penyebab utama adalah adanya kebutuhan untuk mendapat penerimaan dari lingkungan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah meningkatkan keterampilan menolak dan asertivitas remaja agar terhindar dari tekanan negatif teman sebaya. dengan pendekatan experiential learning. Pelatihan daring dilakukan karena adanya pandemi COVID-19 yang membuat seluruh kegiatan tatap muka perlu dihindari. Subjek dalam pelatihan ini adalah 5 remaja perempuan dari tiga sekolah di Jakarta, yang dipilih dengan metode purposive sampling menggunakan Peer Pressure Inventory. Data kuantitatif diperoleh melalui dua kuesioner berbeda untuk mengukur keterampilan menolak dan asertivitas secara terpisah. Data kualitatif diperoleh melalui observasi dan aktivitas role-play. Wilcoxon signed ranked test digunakan untuk menganalisis data kuantitatif, sedangkan data kualitatif dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil menunjukkan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan pada tingkat asertivitas partisipan, namun tidak dengan keterampilan menolaknya. Hal ini dapat dipengaruhi oleh keterbatasan kesempatan mempraktikkan keterampilan menolak dalam konteks yang sesungguhnya. Secara keseluruhan, pelatihan keterampilan menolak dan asertivitas secara daring sangat mungkin diberikan pada masa pandemi COVID-19.

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of relaxation techniques in reducing the level of anxiety experienced by male adolescents aged 12 to 14 years. This study used a quasi-experimental method with one group pretest – posttest design model. The Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED) - Child Version (Birmaher, et al., 1997) was used to measure overall anxiety level and an anxiety thermometer made by researchers was used to evaluate anxiety level after each session. In total, there were 8 males with relatively high levels of anxiety based on the SCARED (more or equals to 30 points) who participate for 7 sessions. Each session was conducted for 90 minutes. The results indicated that there was a decrease in anxiety levels after the relaxation training program on 7 out of 8 participants. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas teknik relaksasi dalam menurunkan tingkat kecemasan yang dialami oleh remaja laki-laki berusia 12 hingga 14 tahun. Pada penelitian ini terdapat 7 sesi pertemuan termasuk follow-up yang setiap sesinya menghabiskan waktu sekitar 90 menit. Tingkat kecemasan subjek diukur dengan Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED) – Child Version (Birmaher, dkk., 1997) dan thermometer kecemasan yang dibuat oleh peneliti untuk melihat tingkat kecemasan subjek pada setiap sesi. Subjek dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 8 orang dengan tingkat kecemasan yang tergolong tinggi berdasarkan alat ukur SCARED (lebih dari atau sama dengan 30 poin). Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat penurunan tingkat kecemasan setelah dilakukan program pelatihan relaksasi pada 7 dari 8 subjek.

Abstract

Feeding is the right time for parent and child to interact. Based on elicitation, it shows that there is lack of interaction between mother and child when feeding activity. This research is aimed to improve the quality of both interaction between mother and child, and deliver education that related to food and its’ function. One of the method which can be used to increase quality of interaction when feeding activity, is Mediated Learning Experience (MLE). Mediated Learning Experience is an active interaction when parent or substitute adult modify the stimulus to improve the child’s ability. MLE method given to mothers by training. This research is one group pre-test and post-test design research. Measurement in this study used Wilcoxon Signed-Ranks Test. The result on pre-test -- post-test 1 shows that p = 0,012 (p < 0,05) or can be said that there is a significant difference between the quality of parent and child interaction while feeding activity before and after being given MLE training. Then, post-test 1 -- post-test 2 shows p = 0,167 (p > 0,05) or can be said that there is no significant difference between the quality of parent and child interaction while feeding activity on post-test 1 and post-test2.

Abstract

Salah satu keterampilan sosial yang harus dimiliki oleh anak usia dini adalah berkomunikasi dengan sopan pada orang lain. Apabila anak tidak menampilkan perilaku tersebut maka anak akan mengalami penolakan dari lingkungan sosialnya. Berkomunikasi dengan sopan dapat ditampilkan dengan meminta izin sebelum menggunakan mainan orang lain. Perilaku ini dapat dipelajari oleh anak melalui teknik prompting dan transfer of stimulus control. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menguji efektivitas teknik prompting dan transfer of stimulus control untuk meningkatkan perilaku meminta izin sebelum menggunakan mainan orang lain tanpa bimbingan pada anak usia dini. Metode penelitian menggunakan single case AB with follow-up design dengan partisipan penelitiannya adalah anak laki-laki berusia 4 tahun 7 bulan yang tidak pernah meminta izin sebelum menggunakan mainan orang lain. Penelitian dilakukan selama 8 sesi yang masing-masing sesi terdiri dari 4 percobaan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa teknik prompting dan transfer of stimulus control dapat meningkatkan frekuensi perilaku meminta izin sebelum menggunakan mainan orang lain dari 0% menjadi 100% dan efek pemberian intervensi bertahan di berbagai setting. Efek dari penelitian ini membuat partisipan dapat menampilkan perilaku meminta izin sebelum menggunakan mainan orang lain secara spontan setelah melihat mainan di mana pun berada.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of relaxation techniques in diminishing anxiety levels among male adolescents aged 12 to 14. This research employed a quasi-experimental approach utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest design model. The Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders (SCARED) - Child Version (Birmaher, et al., 1997) was utilized to gauge overall anxiety levels, while a custom anxiety thermometer devised by the researchers was employed to appraise anxiety levels following each session. In total, 8 male participants with notably elevated anxiety levels, as indicated by SCARED scores of ≥ 30 points, engaged in 7 sessions. Each session spanned 90 minutes. Abstract

This research was aimed to investigate effectiveness of implementation of social and emotional skills training to reduce aggressiveness on child with borderline intellectual functioning (BIF). The participant was a 7 years old boy who was diagnosed having BIF that complained having difficulty to regulate his emotion when he was angry. The training program was adapted from Friendship Group Program that developed by Bierman et al. (2017), yet implemented in individual setting and adjusted to the child needs. In this program, researchers involved parent in the sessions and provided tasks to encourage him to practice the skills at his natural setting. It was single-subject design research to examine cause-effect relationship on the program deliver. The success of program implementation was evaluated qualitatively using interview, observation, and task evaluation; and quantitatively by comparing the score of Child Behavioral Checklist (CBCL) on social competence, social problem, and aggression problem. The result indicated that there were increase on social and emotional skills, and decrease on aggressiveness behavior on child with BIF.

Abstract

Academic stress is one of the biggest stressors for adolescents. Facing academic stress, coping strategies being used is so important for deciding the impact of academic stress itself. This study aims to test the effectiveness of online intervention for enhancing coping stress strategies for lowering academic stress in students. Participants in this study were 2nd grade high school students (n=6) aged 15-17 years old experiencing medium to high academic stress, and used medium to high maladaptive coping strategies based on screening. Instruments used were Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA) and Brief-COPE. The results of quantitative analysis using ANOVA showed that there was a decrease on the average academic stress score (F (2, 10) =1.04; p < ,05), a decrease on the average maladaptive coping score (F (1.34, 6.67) = 1.87; p < ,05). Meanwhile, there was no significant decrease in the average adaptive coping score (F (1.4, 7.03) =1.04; p < ,05). Qualitatively, students can understand more about academic stressors, stress reactions they experienced, and coping strategies suitable for each of them. In conclusion, this online intervention can help 2nd grade high school students lower academic stress, and decrease maladaptive coping strategies, although this does not help students to enhance adaptive coping strategies significantly.

Abstract

National surveys show that most adolescents experience anxiety problems and anxiety disorders, but only a few seek professional help. Anxiety, especially social anxiety, can be detrimental to adolescents because of its impact on social success. If it persists, social anxiety can develop into social anxiety disorder as an adult. Thus, it is necessary to intervene in adolescents with high social anxiety. Adolescents with social anxiety often experience social situations that they cannot cope with due to a lack of social skills, especially assertive communication skills. This study aimed to see whether assertive communication skill interventions carried out in groups can improve adolescents' assertive communication skills and reduce social anxiety levels. Group interventions conducted in schools provide easy access for youth and efficiency in terms of time and cost. Group interventions also allow adolescents to voice their experiences, finding similarities and connect with others. The study participants were six teenagers aged 13-15 years with high levels of social anxiety. This study consisted of a pre-test, four intervention sessions, post-test, and follow-up. The Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A) and Skala Tingkah Laku Asertif (STLA) were used to describe the participants' social anxiety and assertiveness before, after, and two weeks after the intervention. The results showed an increase in the STLA score and a decrease in the SAS-A score in most participants quantitatively and an increase in assertive communication skills and a decrease in social anxiety qualitatively in all participants. The implication of this study is that assertive communication skills intervention programs carried out in groups are beneficial in increasing assertive communication skills and reducing the level of social anxiety in adolescents, these results can be used as reference material in the intervention of adolescents with social anxiety. Survei nasional menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas remaja mengalami masalah kecemasan dan gangguan kecemasan, namun sedikit yang mencari bantuan profesional. Kecemasan, terutama kecemasan sosial, bisa merugikan karena dampaknya terhadap kesuksesan sosial. Jika berlanjut, kecemasan sosial dapat berkembang menjadi gangguan kecemasan sosial saat dewasa. Dengan demikian, perlu dilakukan intervensi pada remaja dengan kecemasan sosial tinggi. Remaja dengan kecemasan sosial seringkali mengalami situasi sosial yang tidak bisa mereka atasi karena kurangnya keterampilan sosial, terutama keterampilan komunikasi asertif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat apakah intervensi keterampilan komunikasi asertif yang dilakukan secara berkelompok dapat meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi asertif dan menurunkan tingkat kecemasan sosial remaja. Intervensi kelompok yang diadakan di sekolah memberikan kemudahan akses bagi remaja dan efisiensi dari segi waktu serta biaya. Intervensi kelompok juga memungkinkan remaja menyuarakan pengalaman, menemukan kesamaan, dan berkoneksi dengan orang lain. Partisipan penelitian merupakan enam remaja berusia 13-15 tahun dengan tingkat kecemasan sosial tinggi. Penelitian ini terdiri dari pre-test, empat sesi intervensi, post-test, dan follow-up. Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescent (SAS-A) dan Skala Tingkah Laku Asertif (STLA) digunakan untuk mengetahui gambaran kecemasan sosial dan asertivitas partisipan sebelum, sesudah, dan dua minggu sesudah intervensi. Hasilnya, terdapat peningkatan skor STLA dan penurunan skor SAS-A pada mayoritas partisipan secara kuantitatif dan peningkatan keterampilan komunikasi asertif serta penurunan kecemasan sosial secara kualitatif pada seluruh partisipan. Implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa program intervensi keterampilan komunikasi asertif yang dilakukan secara berkelompok bermanfaat dalam meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi asertif dan menurunkan tingkat kecemasan sosial pada remaja sehingga dapat menjadi bahan rujukan dalam intervensi remaja dengan kecemasan sosial.

Abstract

The concept of mindful parenting, derived from the broader framework of mindfulness, has gained increasing recognition in Indonesian parenting practices over recent years. However, the Interpersonal Mindfulness in Parenting (IM-P) instrument, which possesses strong psychometric properties, has not yet been available in Bahasa. The purpose of this study is to adapt the IM-P instrument into a valid and reliable Indonesian version. The IM-P was translated and adapted into Indonesian, involving a sample of 735 parents (M = 36.63; SD = 7.354) with children aged 3 to 17 years. Using a random sampling procedure, the first sample (n = 367) was used for Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), while the second sample (n = 368) was used for Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The study revealed that the Indonesian version of the IM-P consists of 20 items and 4 dimensions: Emotional Awareness of Self and Child, Self-Regulation in Parenting, Non-judgmental and Compassion for Child, and Non-judgmental and Compassion for Self. Overall, the IM-P Indonesia demonstrated good reliability. Additionally, the IM-P Indonesia showed a significant negative correlation with parenting stress, except for the dimension of Non-judgmental and Compassion for Self. These findings suggest that the IM-P is a valid and reliable measure for use within the Indonesian population.
