Abstract

Terdapat dua cara peningkatan infrastruktur transportasi memengaruhi perekonomian. Pertama, melalui berkurangnya biaya transportasi. Kata Kunci: jalan, non-pertanian, toko, infrastruktur, Indonesia There are two ways the improvements from transportation infrastructure influence economic outcomes. First, through the reduction of transportation cost. Second, creating economic activity in regions with better infrastructure. To investigate the latter benefits of transportation infrastructure we measure what is the impact of better road quality in the village level in Indonesia using data from Podes. Based on the regression results, there is an increasing number of small retail activities in rural areas with better road quality. Thus, the increasing road quality can help the village in rural areas improve economic activities. Keywords: energy intensity, export, manufacturing, Indonesia

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the comparison of economic well-being between women experiencing a marital dissolution and married women on non-food consumption expenditures. The research question is focused on a marital dissolution (separated, divorced, or widowed) which always harms women. Some empirical studies find that women with discontinuous marriage (divorced or widowed) have lower economic well-being than married ones. To analyze the aforementioned research question, this article applied income pooling concept and employed fixed effects regression. Data in this study used Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) 2007 and 2014. Results suggested that women experiencing a marital dissolution had a greater expenditure compared to married ones. However, this does not imply that the prior group has better economic well-being than the latter one. The marital dissolution incident causes women to manage a numerousadjustments in overcoming difficulties that arise after such incident. The decomposition of non-food consumption expenditures show that some of the items are used to recover after such incident.

Abstract

Poor nutritional status, especially during childhood, has a negative impact on one’s early life as well as throughout their life. One of the factors that influences the improvement of children’s nutritional status is the bargaining power of the mother. Previous studies have limitations in that they often use cross-sectional data and indirect approaches to measuring bargaining power. This study aims to measure the impact of maternal bargaining power on children’s nutritional status in Indonesia. The unit of analysis is children aged 7–19 years (IFLS5) who still have and live with their parents (IFLS4). Using the OLS estimation method, the results show that maternal bargaining power significantly and positively influences the nutritional status of children (HA z-score).

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic can be an economic shock for low-income households. Several studies have shown that child labor is a strategy used by households to cope with economic shocks. This shock will exacerbate the phenomenon of child labor. Social protection is a form of mitigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic which is considered able to reduce the number of child labor. Program Keluarga Harapan (PKH) is one of the social protection programs in Indonesia. This study investigates the impact of Program Keluarga Harapan (PKH) on the phenomenon of child labor during the COVID-19 pandemic. To overcome the problem of self-selection, this study applies the variable of interest as an endogenous variable. By using the recursive bivariate probit method, this study concludes that PKH has no impact on reducing the likelihood of a child becoming child labor during the COVID-19 pandemic. To enrich the research, we also investigated the influence of PKH on the phenomenon of child labor in the period before the COVID-19 pandemic and found that PKH had an impact on reducing the likelihood of a child becoming child labor in the period before the COVID-19 pandemic. Several factors that influence the phenomenon of child labor, such as the characteristics of children, the characteristics of the head of the household, household characteristics, and environmental characteristics, have been shown to influence a child's tendency to become child labor, both in both periods (before the pandemic or during the COVID-19 pandemic) and in only one period.

Abstract

Data lalu diolah dan dianalisa menggunakan metode Difference in Difference (DiD).

Abstract

Background: The National Health Insurance or Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN) program is one of the steps taken by the Indonesian government in developing Universal Health Coverage (UHC). However, increased participation in the National Health Insurance is not followed by an increase in met needs for healthcare services. Aims: This study aimed to examine the effect of participation in the National Health Insurance on unmet needs for healthcare services in poor and non-poor population groups. Methods: This study used data from the 2018 National Socio-Economic Survey/ Survei Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (SUSENAS) and Village Potential Survey/ Survei Potensi Desa (PODES). Data were processed using binary logistic model analysis to identify the effect of participation in the National Health Insurance on the unmet needs for healthcare services. Results: Participation in the National Health Insurance, including beneficiary program for poor groups could reduce the risks of unmet needs for healthcare services by 7.7%, while non-beneficiary program could reduce the risks of unmet needs for health services for non-poor groups by 10.4%. Conclusion: Both beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries affect the unmet needs for health services for both poor and non-poor groups. However, the non-beneficiary program is more elastic than beneficiary program to fulfill needs for both sample groups. Keywords: Healthcare services, national health insurance, logit, unmet need

Abstract

This study examines the impact of social capital on food security in Indonesia using Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS5) data. In previous studies, the impact of social capital on food security did not consider the endogeneity of social capital. This study uses two-stage least squares (2SLS) and conditional mixed process (CMP) estimation methods using trust in villages as instruments to estimate social capital and examine its impact on food security as measured by food consumption scores and food consumption groups. The results show that social capital positively affects food security, as measured by food consumption scores and food consumption groups.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of mental health proxied by depression on job retention. The primary independent variable is the change in depression scores in 2007 and 2014. It discovers the number of individuals whose depression scores remained, decreased, and increased. The dependent variable was being employed or unemployed in 2014. The data used in this study are from the Indonesia Life Family Survey (IFLS). The method used is logistic regression. The test results from 9675 observations showed that individuals who experienced symptoms of depression in the previous period decreased their work retention by 5.55%. Both men and women in this study showed significant results. This study confirms the long-term effect of depressive disorders on job retention.
