Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the structure and function of imperative sentences in the dialogue of the animated series Mansour, episode خندق مريانا, from the perspective of Arabic linguistics. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method using documentation and discourse analysis techniques to examine Arabic utterances in the selected episode. The analysis focuses on the morphological form of fi’il amr, other imperative constructions that convey directive meaning, and their pragmatic functions in character interactions. The findings reveal that the dominant imperative form is fi’il amr, which morphologically conforms to standard Arabic grammatical rules in both singular and plural forms. In addition, the dialogue presents variations of imperative strategies, including hortative constructions and the use of colloquial particles that reinforce urgency and encouragement. Pragmatically, imperative sentences in the dialogue function not only as direct commands but also as warnings, technical instructions, invitations, and motivational encouragements. These functions are strongly influenced by situational context, interpersonal relationships among characters, and the level of urgency within the narrative structure. This study emphasizes that the analysis of imperative sentences in dialogic discourse must integrate grammatical structure and pragmatic function in order to achieve a comprehensive understanding of communicative strategies in Arabic.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the phonological interference of Indonesian language on the pronunciation of Arabic hijaiyah phonemes in kindergarten children in Iqra learning. The purpose of the study is to identify forms of phonological interference and explain the psycho-phonological factors behind them. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with a psycho-phonological framework that operationalizes Chomsky's theory of mental representation, Weinreich's interference theory, and Lado's contrastive analysis as analytical instruments. Eight students from Ibnu Al-Akbar Lubuk Pakam Kindergarten who are taking Iqra volume 1 were selected through purposive sampling based on the criteria of native Indonesian speakers who have not received formal tajweed training. Data were collected through pronunciation tests, voice recordings, classroom observations, and phonological discrimination tests. The results showed that the Indonesian sound system significantly affected the production of Arabic phonemes in children, especially in emfatic consonants (tafkhim), throat sounds (pharynx and laryngeal), and uvular consonants that are not found in the Indonesian phonological system. Although the average score of the production test of 17.25 out of 20 indicates a fairly good basic ability, analysis of the sound discrimination test reveals that a number of pronunciation errors stem from the limitations of phonological perception, rather than mere articulation weaknesses. The error pattern was dominated by sound substitution (26 cases), followed by changes in sound properties (10 cases) and sound elimination (4 cases). These findings contribute to the understanding of the mechanisms of second language phonological adaptation in early childhood, which in the framework of the Perceptual Assimilation Model (Best and Tyler, 2007) can be described as a perceptual assimilation process in which unfamiliar second language sounds are assimilated into the most similar categories of first language phonemes and form the basis of recommendations for Iqra learning strategies based on multisensory approaches and auditory discrimination training.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the form of oral tradition in the closing of prayer activities at the Al-Yahdi Klambir V Foundation in Medan through an anthropological-linguistic perspective. The focus of the study is on the use of Shalawat Pembuka Pintu Rezeki (Prayer for Opening the Door to Sustenance) as the closing of the yasinan ritual, which is a unique linguistic and cultural phenomenon. The research uses a qualitative approach with an anthropological ethnographic design through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The analysis was conducted by looking at the relationship between language form, cultural context, social function, and symbolic meaning in the practice of oral tradition. The results of the study show that the recitation of Shalawat not only functions as a religious expression but also as a medium for conveying cultural values that strengthen group identity, solidarity, and continuity of tradition. Linguistically, the repetition, intonation, language formulas, and performativity in Shalawat are markers of local wisdom and living cultural expressions. This study confirms that oral traditions in religious rituals are a form of cultural practice that is passed down through language and performance.
