Abstract

The aim of the research is to obtain the ecological condition and propagation of kamandrah (Croton tiglium L.) and determination of its potency as biological larvacidal for preventing dengue haemorraghic fever. Agrobiophysic study indicated that Croton tiglium L. plant need full sunlight(> 70 %). low intensity of sunlight could decrease the ability of plant to produce seed. The plant could grow well on podzolic land (30-50 m upon sea surface). Seed of kamandrah from Ampah has growth percentage of 43.8 °/o, height of 27.5 em, stem diameter of 5 em, total leaves of 10, and total primary branches of 2. Phytochemical assay resulted that among other part of Kamandrah, Kamandrah seed has highest alkaloid content. Because alkaloid compound has high larvicidal activity, kamandrah seed has high potency as larvicide. Among all of extracts of part of plant, oil of Croton tiglium L. has the highest potency as biological larvacidal with 863.67 ppm of LC50 for 24 hours of treatment.

Abstract

Recently, Indonesia has big problem caused by dengue haemorraghic fever with A. aegypti as vector. Potential medicine and vaccine for curing this disease have not been found. The effective method to prevent this disease is the use of A. aegypti larvicidal. The chemical larvicidal has disadvantage for evironmental aspect. To solve this problem, the biological larvicidal has a good chance to develop. Indonesia has megadiversity which can be developed as biological larvicidal. Crude aqueous extracts and ethanol extracts of Jatropha curcas (Jarak pagar) seed and oil of Jatropha curcas were evaluated for larvicidal potential against the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Among all extracts, Jatropha curcas oil possessed a highest activity against the 3th instar larvae of Aedes. LC50 values of Jatropha curcas oil was 1507 ppm for 24 h and 866 ppm for 48 h. It was suggested that the Croton tiglium oil and Jatropha curcas oil possess larvicidal properties that could be developed and used as biological larvicidal.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan uji potensi larvasida nyamuk Aedes aegypti terhadap minyak jarak pagar.Nilai LC50 minyak jarak pagar sebesar 0,15% untuk 24 jam pengujian dan 0,087% untuk 48jam pengujian. Identifikasi kandungan kimia dilakukan pada minyak jarak pagar denganmenggunakan GC-MS. Hasil analisa GC-MS diduga minyak jarak pagar mengandungsenyawa piperine dengan kemiripan library sebesar 83%. Senyawa piperine adalah golonganalkaloid jenis piperidin yang biasa digunakan sebagai larvasida untuk nyamuk. Minyak jarakpagar dapat dikembangkan menjadi larvasida alami untuk mengontrol populasi nyamukdemam berdarah Dengue.

Abstract

Effectiveness of Castor Oil as a Pagar Larvasida, oviposition and anti-Mosquito Larva of Ovisida Aedes albopictusAedes albopictus mosquito is increasing problem of public health, being the vector responsible for Chikungunya and the second vector for Dengue. Various efforts have been done to control the mosquitoes both chemically and naturally. Jatropha curcas seed oil was known to posses insecticide activity against larval mosquito species. The study aimed to examine effectiveness of J. curcas seed oil as larvi-cidal, anti-oviposition, and ovicidal against A. albopictus. The larval mortality was observed after 24 h of exposure. The LC50 value of J. curcas seed oil is 905.29 ppm, against A. albopictus. The oil significantly (p <0.05) reduced oviposition by A. albo-pictus in the 0.4 and 0.5% concentration for J. curcas. J. curcas seed oil was ef-fecttive on 0.4 and 0.5% concentration so that could prevent the eggs from being hatched. Quantitative analysis of J. curcas by spectrophotometer revealed the pre-sence of piperine, its potential against lar-val mosquito. The result of this study sug-gested that the J. curcas oil posses insec-ticide properties.

Abstract

Animal fats such as beef fat/tallow widely available on the market and relatively cheap. Public awareness is high enough the importance of health by reducing the consumption of fatty foods, making animal fat is not utilized to the maximum, so the research was about catalytic cracking beef fat/tallow into liquid fuels with the opened reactor  using a  nature zeolite and MgO as catalyst. The colour of liquid that produced by the opened reactor and using natural zeolite catalyst was clear yellow liquid oils with the composition of the carbon chain were C12- C20. The results of GC - MS analysis showed that the composition of the group of compounds were 64.51% of alkanes, 27.37% of alkenes, 0.7% of aldehyde, 4.34% of ketone and 3.08% of fatty acids. The colour of liquid that produced by the opened reactor and using MgO catalyst was brownish yellow liquid oils. The results of GC-MS analysis showed that the composition of the carbon chain were 17.85% of C7-C11 and 82.15 % of C12-C19. The results of GC-MS analysis showed that the composition of the group of compounds were 57.6% of alkanes, 32.16% of alkenes and 10.24% of ketones. The composition of the cracking results tallow oil compounds using natural zeolite catalysts showed that the oil can be used as a diesel, while using MgO catalyst generated 17.85 % of liquid fuels equivalent of petrol and 82.15 % liquid fuels equivalent diesel.
