Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan masyarakat pra-sejahtera di kawasan Gandus, Palembang, melalui pelatihan dan sosialisasi pengecoran aluminium skrap sederhana sebagai upaya pemanfaatan limbah logam menjadi produk bernilai jual. Permasalahan yang dihadapi masyarakat setempat antara lain terbatasnya lapangan pekerjaan, rendahnya keterampilan teknis, serta belum optimalnya pemanfaatan limbah logam yang selama ini hanya dikumpulkan atau dijual dengan harga murah. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan meliputi survei lapangan, pemberian materi teori, pembuatan tungku pengecoran sederhana, serta praktik langsung pengecoran aluminium skrap. Untuk mengukur efektivitas kegiatan, dilakukan pretest dan posttest terhadap peserta, yang menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman peserta terkait konsep dasar pengecoran, nilai ekonomis aluminium, dan keselamatan kerja. Hasil kuesioner juga menunjukkan bahwa 78,57% peserta menyatakan kegiatan ini sangat diperlukan dan materi yang disampaikan mudah dipahami. Dengan demikian, kegiatan ini memberikan kontribusi nyata dalam peningkatan keterampilan dan pemberdayaan masyarakat berbasis pemanfaatan limbah logam secara produktif.

Abstract

The utilization of red ginger, a rhizome rich in benefits, as a product with high market value can be achieved through the use of simple solar drying technology. However, there is still limited understanding of harnessing solar energy as a freely available drying source in nature. Community service activities aim to provide the basic theory of how to dry red ginger using solar energy, with the hope of enhancing community empowerment and contributing to economic self-reliance efforts. The target audience for this activity includes housewives, youth groups (Karang taruna), mosque youth associations, and local farmers in the MPD RT 02 Gandus Palembang area. The results of this activity show that the participants were highly enthusiastic in participating in discussions and Q&A sessions regarding the process of drying red ginger to create products with higher market value

Abstract

In the industrial world, leaf springs are an important component of vehicles. Therefore, material selection is very influential in producing good mechanical properties that can affect leaf spring performance. In this review article, the author aims to review and compile articles on relevant previous studies to compare the best alternative materials other than steel that meet the criteria for the application of leaf springs. The review method used in this article is to search for articles that are relevant to the keyword material, leaf springs, and mechanical properties. After that, the author will collect articles and choose articles that have the criteria to be reviewed. Then the articles that meet the criteria will be reviewed by extracting the data to the review table. As a result, 24 articles will be reviewed. Then the author will extract data on each article, namely material, tensile strength, and flexure. Flexural and tensile strength are used as quality criteria for each material. The conclusion of the review article obtained is that carbon/epoxy has the potential as an alternative steel material because carbon/epoxy has the highest tensile strength with a value of 1841MPa, and flexural strength with a value of 1646.7MPa is close to steel as shown in the review table. However, further research is needed, such as proper design and more efficient manufacturing methods to produce innovative leaf spring components with high quality and acceptable quality in the industry.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of welding current on the microstructural evolution and mechanical performance of Shielded Metal Arc Welded (SMAW) dissimilar lap joints between ASTM A36 carbon steel and AISI 316 stainless steel using an E316-16 electrode. Welding was performed at three different currents, namely 60 A, 70 A, and 80 A, to evaluate their influence on microstructure, hardness distribution, and impact toughness. Microstructural characterization was conducted using optical microscopy to examine phase formation and grain morphology in the weld metal and heat-affected zone (HAZ). Mechanical properties were evaluated through Vickers hardness testing and Charpy impact testing. The results show that increasing welding current leads to higher heat input, promoting the formation of finer pearlite and acicular ferrite in the weld metal, along with an expansion of the HAZ. These microstructural changes resulted in increased hardness, with the highest average hardness value of 343.32 HV observed in the weld metal at 80 A. Impact test results indicated that higher welding currents enhanced impact toughness due to the interlocking morphology of acicular ferrite, which effectively retards crack propagation. However, localized grain coarsening was observed near the fusion boundary, particularly within the HAZ. Overall, a welding current of 80 A provided the most favorable combination of hardness and impact toughness, indicating its suitability for optimizing the mechanical performance of SMAW dissimilar welded joints between ASTM A36 and AISI 316.

Abstract

Rendahnya produktivitas dan pendapatan petani karet mendorong perlunya diversifikasi usaha melalui integrasi peternakan kambing. Namun, keterbatasan penyediaan pakan menjadi kendala utama bagi peternak. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengimplementasikan mesin pencacah sampah organik sebagai teknologi tepat guna dalam pengolahan pakan ternak di Desa Seri Kembang I, Kecamatan Payaraman, Kabupaten Ogan Ilir. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi observasi lapangan, perancangan dan pembuatan mesin, serta demonstrasi penggunaan alat kepada petani karet yang memiliki ternak kambing. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa mesin mampu mencacah rumput dan dahan karet dengan ukuran sesuai standar pakan ternak serta memiliki konsumsi bahan bakar yang efisien. Implementasi alat ini meningkatkan efisiensi penyediaan pakan, mengurangi beban kerja peternak, serta mendapatkan respons positif dari masyarakat. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan dampak sosial-ekonomi melalui peningkatan produktivitas ternak dan pendapatan petani secara berkelanjutan.
