Abstract

Foreign language anxiety remains a persistent affective barrier that can hinder students’ engagement and performance in English language classrooms. With the increasing integration of artificial intelligence in education, chatbots have emerged as potential pedagogical tools that can provide low-stakes interaction and emotional support. However, empirical evidence on their effectiveness in reducing anxiety in EFL contexts is still limited. This study investigates the efficacy of a chatbot in reducing anxiety levels among students in an English language classroom. Adopting a mixed-methods design, the study involved 30 undergraduate students over a 16-week semester. Quantitative data were collected using pre- and post-tests based on an adapted version of the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS). A paired-samples t-test was conducted to measure changes in anxiety levels, while a one-way ANOVA examined differences based on chatbot usage frequency. To complement the quantitative findings, semi-structured interviews were conducted with six participants and were analyzed thematically. A paired-samples t-test revealed a significant reduction in anxiety levels following the integration of the chatbot into classroom activities (p < .001). Although a one-way ANOVA showed no significant difference in anxiety reduction across varying levels of chatbot usage frequency (F(2,27) = 0.303, p = .741), students' qualitative responses highlighted the chatbot’s value in lowering anxiety. Three themes emerged from the interviews, including reduced pressure due to quick responses, enhanced confidence through answer validation, and emotional comfort gained from the chatbot’s presence. These findings suggest that chatbots can contribute to a more supportive language learning environment, particularly in addressing anxiety issues in foreign language classrooms.

Abstract

Abstract

Compliance of business actors with regulations and standards such as the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and regulations on the distribution, advertising and labelling of cosmetics is a crucial aspect in ensuring the safety and quality of cosmetic products to protect public health. This study aimed to assess the level of compliance of cosmetics business actors with regulations and standards in Indonesia. This quantitative study analyzed secondary data from the Indonesian FDA (BPOM)’s risk-based supervision of production and distribution facilities, advertising, and labelling across 34 provinces from 2019–2023. Each year, 4270–7,054 facilities were inspected and classified as compliant or non-compliant, and compliance proportions were calculated. The results were weighted using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to produce a compliance index categorized into four levels: excellent (90.01–100), good (66.67–90), fair (33.34–66.66), and poor (0–33.33). The results of the analysis showed that the compliance index of cosmetics businesses for five years ranged from 71.62 to 83.79 and was classified as good: 82.79 (2019), 80.96 (2020), 75.41 (2021), 71.62 (2022), and 83.79 (2023). The index trend showed a fluctuating pattern from year to year, with the highest value recorded in 2023.

Abstract

Vegetable farmers in Bebengan Village, Kendal Regency, still mostly water their crops manually, resulting in inefficient water usage and inconsistent watering timing. Additionally, the water quality for irrigation has not been monitored regularly, even though pH and PPM parameters affect nutrient availability and plant growth. This service activity aims to implement an Internet of Things (IoT)-based automatic plant watering technology that can monitor pH and PPM and provide easy control through Google Assistant. The implementation methods include observing partner needs, designing and assembling an Arduino ATmega 2560 and ESP8266-based system with pH and PPM sensors, installing it on a 200 m² cultivation area, integrating remote monitoring and control, and training farmers on operating and maintaining the equipment. Implementing the system allows for more scheduled/controlled watering and provides real-time pH and PPM information as a basis for decision-making. In conclusion, the implementation of this IoT system improves the effectiveness of the watering process, supports water quality monitoring, and simplifies operations through voice-based control, thus potentially increasing cultivation efficiency at the farmer level.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the influence of AI-Based Accounting Tools on the accuracy of financial statements among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Bandar Lampung, Indonesia. Methodology/approach: This research adopts a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4.0. The sample consists of 206 MSMEs that have adopted at least one AI-based accounting system such as Jurnal.id, Accurate, or QuickBooks. Results/findings: The findings indicate that digital literacy and the level of technological adoption have a positive and significant effect on the effective use of AI-Based Accounting Tools, which in turn enhances the accuracy of financial reporting. Conclusions: Meanwhile, implementation challenges, such as infrastructure and cost limitations, hinder adoption. This study provides strategic implications for policymakers and technology developers to accelerate digital transformation among MSMEs. Limitations: Data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (2023) shows that more than 70% of MSMEs in Indonesia do not yet have systematically prepared financial statements. This condition is caused by limited accounting literacy, human resources, and the low adoption of digital technology. Contribution: This study is expected to provide both theoretical and practical contributions to the development of digital accounting literature, as well as offer recommendations for local governments and technology providers to strengthen the digital transformation ecosystem of MSMEs in Indonesia.
