Abstract

Taro is plant that has a pseudostalk, cylindrical and light brown bulbs. The shape of leaf is the heart in length. Leaf stalk of taro contains are saponins, flavonoids, tanins, alkaloids, steroids and terpenoids. Leaf stalk of taro can be used as an alternative medicines wound and antioxidants. Flavonoids have an important role in the biological activity of taro leaf stalk. This research aims to determine the flavonoid and total flavonoids content in the taro leaf stalk extract. The extraction is done using maceration method with 70% ethanolas solvent. The extract which is got is used for qualitative and quantitative analysis. Quercetin used as a standard solution. Quantitative analysis using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry on a wavelength of 435.5 nm and operating time at the 29th minute. The results of qualitative test showed that the extract was positive flavonoids. The average concentrations of total flavonoids was 10,2223mg QE/gram extract with %CV value of 0,3051%.

Abstract

One of the most developed pharmaceutical preparations for paracetamol is a syrup. An important additional substance required in the formulation of the syrup is a coloring agent. Telang flower (Clitoria ternatea) is one of the plants that has been proved to contain anthocyanins. Anthocyanin is a compound which can be used as a coloring agent. Thus, it is important to further explore telang flower’s potential as a natural coloring agent in paracetamol syrup preparation. This research was started with the extraction of the dye or anthocyanin content in the telang flower. The extraction was performed by ethanol with maceration method. Paracetamol syrups were prepared in four different formulations (F1, F2, F3, and F4). F1, F2, and F3 contained three increased concentrations of telang extract of 0.25%, 0.5% and 1.0%, respectively, while F4 was added with the synthetic food coloring agent, as a control. Each formula was evaluated based on its physical properties parameters including organoleptic observation, pH, density viscosity, and color stability test using spectrophotometry. The results of organoleptic, pH, density viscosity, and color stability parameters showed that telang extract with the concentration of 0.25% and 1% possessed more stable result than 0,5% concentration in the paracetamol syrup preparations.

Abstract

Red kidney bean is one of the string beans that contain highest-fiber with a concentration 26.3 gram/100 gram substance. Red kidney bean contains flavonoid tannin steroid/triterpenoid and coumarin. The Flavonoid in red kidney bean has anti-diabetes activity. This research aims to determine total flavonoid content in the red kidney bean extract. Extraction is done using the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The extract which is got is used for qualitative and quantitative analysis. Quercetin used as a standard solution. The qualitative analysis of flavonoid using TLC, Wilstater Cyanidin by forming a red complex and NaOH by a forming yellow complex. The Quantitative analysis was using colorimetry method with reagent AlCl3 to form complexes between AlCl3 and keto groups. Quantitative analysis continued with Visible Spectrophotometry on a wavelength of 430.0 nm and operating time at the 27th minute. The results of the qualitative test showed that the extract was positive flavonoids. The average concentrations of total flavonoids were 0,4733% extract with a variation coefficient value of 1,2%.

Abstract

Disease in the liver caused by hypercholesterolemia is fatty liver. Fatty liver is one of the damages to the liver, a condition in which the liver experiences fat accumulation. Green kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) is a plant that contains a lot of flavonoid compounds can be used as cholesterol-lowering. Flavonoids are able to release cholesterol found in the walls of blood vessels and organs in the body. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence or absence of anticholesterol activity and EC50 values in ethanol extracts of green kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa) with a concentration series of 2.5; 5.0; 7.5; 10.0; 12.5 ppm. Ethanol extract of green kiwifruit was tested for active substance content and quantitative analysis using UV-Vis spectrophotometry method at a wavelength of 668 nm and operating time of 15 minutes. The results showed ethanol extract of green kiwifruit contains phenols, flavonoids, saponins, vitamin C which can reduce cholesterol levels with an average EC50 value of 7.3 ppm with a coefficient of variation value of 1.12%. Keywords : Cholesterol, Lieberman-burchard, Extract, Green kiwifruit (Actinidia deliciosa), UV-VIS spectrophotometry.

Abstract

Shigella dysentriae is a genus of Shigella which has a high percentage of causing dysentery by 25%. The ethyl acetate fraction of guava leaves has potential as an antibacterial because the amount of compounds that provide antibacterial activity are more attracted in this solvent. The purpose of this study was to see the potential for inhibition of the ethyl acetate fraction of guava leaves (Syzygium aqueum) at each variation of its concentration against the bacterium Shigella dysentriae. The ethyl acetate fraction was obtained by liquid-liquid fractionation. The ethyl acetate fraction was tested in the zone of inhibition against Shigella dysentriae with various concentrations of 12.5%, 25%, 50%, and 100%, Ciprofloxacin positive control and 100% DMSO negative control. The data obtained were processed using One Way Anova with a 95% confidence level. The results of phytochemical screening of the ethyl acetate fraction of guava leaves showed positive for flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and steroids. Inhibition test of ethyl acetate fraction of guava leaves against bacteria Shigella dysentriae had the smallest inhibitory power at a concentration of 12.5%, the inhibitory power was 6.3 mm; 25% concentration of 15.3 mm; 50% concentration of 16.7 mm; and the concentration of 100% the largest inhibitory power was 18.4%. The results of the antibacterial inhibition of the ethyl acetate fraction of guava leaves had a significant difference in each concentration with a significance value (p <0.05).

Abstract

Bacteria The main causes of skin infections among them caused by staphylococcus aureus bacteria, each infected network usually appears typical signs such as inflammation and abscess formation. Pare leaves (Momordica Charantia L.) can be used as antibacterial because they contain flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins. This study aims to obtain a gel preparation of the pare leaf ethanol extract that has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Dietary leaf extract pare is done by Maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent. Deads are made with a concentration of 15%, 20% and 25%. The quality control test of the gel preparations include tests for homogeneity, organoleptic, dispersibility, adhesion, pH, viscosity and irritation then continued with antibacterial activity tests. The results showed that formula 3 (concentration 25%) met the requirements of the physical properties test including organoleptic test of green color, brownish concentrated, transparent, distinctive aroma, thick texture, homogeneous, has a pH of 5.8±0.0, viscosity 3100±0.0 cps, spreadability 5.3 ±0.27 cm, adhesion 1.22±0.02 seconds, and does not irritate the skin and has the greatest antibacterial activity. The antibacterial activity test showed that the diameter of the inhibition zones obtained in the ethanol extract gel preparations of pare leaves at concentrations of 15%, 20% and 25% were 16.58±0.33 mm, 17.87±0.78 mm, and 22.20±0.78 mm, respectively.
