Abstract

This investigation examines participatory development approaches specifically designed for ecologically sensitive regions, utilizing Ketam Island as the primary research setting. The methodology incorporates stakeholder engagement protocols combined with environmental sustainability assessment frameworks. Findings demonstrate that integrated multi-actor strategies significantly enhance both conservation outcomes and economic resilience indicators. Analysis reveals successful deployment of community-based governance mechanisms that effectively balance environmental preservation priorities with socioeconomic development requirements. Results indicate that participatory governance structures provide viable pathways for achieving dual objectives of ecological protection and community prosperity in vulnerable marine ecosystems. Implications extend to policy development for comparable island communities confronting similar sustainability challenges across Southeast Asia's coastal regions.

Abstract

This research investigates the integration of renewable energy systems within coastal conservation areas through public-private partnership (PPP) frameworks to achieve dual objectives of environmental sustainability and economic development. The study addresses the critical challenge of balancing energy infrastructure development with ecological preservation in sensitive coastal ecosystems, where biodiversity and community livelihoods are often at risk due to increasing industrial and urban pressures. A mixed-methods approach is employed, combining case study analysis, stakeholder interviews, and economic modeling, to generate a comprehensive perspective on the opportunities and constraints of renewable energy deployment in these regions. Case studies highlight successful international practices of PPPs that have facilitated renewable energy projects while safeguarding marine and coastal ecosystems. Stakeholder interviews with government agencies, local communities, and private sector representatives reveal the importance of transparent governance, shared responsibility, and inclusive participation in ensuring long-term project sustainability. Economic modeling further demonstrates that well-structured PPP models can reduce implementation costs by 30–40% while adhering to biodiversity conservation standards and regulatory frameworks. Findings underscore that renewable energy projects, when embedded within collaborative governance structures, not only contribute to reducing carbon emissions but also create employment opportunities, stimulate local economies, and enhance community resilience. This study contributes to the sustainable development literature by providing an actionable framework for integrating renewable energy infrastructure in environmentally sensitive areas through PPPs. The proposed framework emphasizes adaptive policy design, capacity building, and equitable benefit-sharing, offering practical insights for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers seeking to reconcile energy needs with ecological protection in coastal regions.

Abstract

Pulau Ketam, a small fishing village in Selangor, Malaysia, faces persistent economic challenges despite its abundance of marine resources and longstanding tradition of herbal knowledge. Limited access to modern markets, dependence on middlemen, and a lack of digital literacy have restricted the community’s ability to fully benefit from its local assets. This study aims to explore the implementation of digital branding strategies as a means of empowering local communities and strengthening the marketing of seafood and herbal products. Employing a community-based participatory approach, the research integrates digital marketing training, brand development workshops, and the establishment of an e-commerce platform tailored to local needs. Data collection was carried out through surveys of 150 local entrepreneurs, focus group discussions with community leaders, and performance metrics analysis over a six-month period. The intervention generated a 65% increase in online sales, a 40% improvement in product visibility, and notable progress in community digital literacy. Findings reveal that structured digital branding programs not only enhance entrepreneurial capacity and market competitiveness but also support the preservation of cultural identity and traditional knowledge systems. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on rural digital transformation by providing empirical evidence that community empowerment through technology adoption can lead to sustainable economic development. The results suggest that similar models can be replicated in other marginalized communities to bridge digital gaps, strengthen local economies, and promote inclusive growth.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of Physical Evidence, Reliability, and Empathy on Customer Satisfaction at Setiabudi Salon. In this study, respondents were asked to provide responses regarding these three variables and their impact on their satisfaction levels as customers and on the population in this study was 67. The analysis methods used include descriptive and verifiable analysis, which include path analysis, multiple correlation analysis, determination coefficient, and hypothesis testing through t-test for partial testing and F-test for simultaneous testing. The population of this study consisted of 67 customers of Setiabudi Salon, with samples taken using saturated sampling techniques. The results of the analysis showed that Physical Evidence had a t-count value of 1.996, showing a positive and significant influence on customer satisfaction. Reliability recorded a t-count value of 3,170, which also shows a positive and significant influence. Meanwhile, Empathy produced a t-count value of 6,951, indicating a very significant influence on customer satisfaction. Simultaneously, the combination of these three factors showed a calculated F value of 122,985, which significantly affected customer satisfaction at Setiabudi Salon. This research emphasizes the importance of good management of Physical Evidence, Reliability, and Empathy to increase customer satisfaction, which will ultimately contribute to the loyalty and sustainability of the salon's business.

Abstract

This study examines how micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the tourism sector of Kota Pari, North Sumatra, have transformed their business communication through digital media platforms. Using a qualitative case study approach carried out between January and April 2025, primary data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observation, and documentation of social media accounts. The research involved 40 MSME owners and managers engaged in tourism-related businesses (culinary, accommodation, handicrafts, and local guides). Thematic analysis reveals that MSMEs have migrated from oral and offline promotion toward digital channels particularly WhatsApp Business for reservation and customer service, Instagram for visual storytelling, and TikTok for short-form video promotion. Key challenges include limited digital literacy, uneven internet infrastructure, inconsistent content production, and difficulties measuring digital campaign effectiveness. Innovations observed include collaborations with local content creators, community-led digital training programs, usage of low-cost content tools (Canva, CapCut), and peer-sharing initiatives. The study concludes that digital media positively impacts visitor numbers, order frequency, and local brand awareness but requires targeted capacity building, improved infrastructure, and stronger multi-stakeholder support to be sustainable.

Abstract

Effective ecological-economic planning requires systematic integration of diverse stakeholder perspectives to achieve sustainable development outcomes. This study examines how multi-stakeholder engagement frameworks can address the complex interplay between environmental conservation and economic advancement in ecologically sensitive coastal regions. Using Ketam Island, Malaysia as a case study, this research employs mixed-methods approach combining stakeholder analysis, participatory planning workshops, and environmental-economic impact assessments conducted from January to August 2025. The study engaged 425 stakeholders across six primary categories: local communities (n=180), government agencies (n=65), private sector entities (n=85), NGOs (n=45), academic institutions (n=30), and tourism operators (n=20). Results demonstrate that structured stakeholder integration mechanisms yield significant improvements in planning outcomes, with stakeholder satisfaction increasing from 42% to 78%, environmental indicators showing 23% improvement in marine biodiversity indices, and economic benefits demonstrating 47% increase in sustainable livelihood opportunities. The collaborative framework successfully bridged previously disconnected stakeholder groups, resulting in joint problem identification, shared solution development, and coordinated implementation strategies. This research contributes to understanding how participatory governance mechanisms can operationalize sustainability principles in practice.
