Industri papan partikel di Indonesia pada umumnya menggunakan jenis kayu dengan kelas awet rendah sebagai bahan bakunya sehingga mudah diserang oleh organisme perusak kayu misalnya rayap. Oleh karena itu untuk meningkatkan keawetan papan partikel tersebut perlu dilakukan pengawetan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh bahan pengawet permetrin terhadap sifat fisis, mekanis dan keawetan papan pertikel kayu karet dengan menggunakan perekat urea formaldehida cair. Kandungan bahan aktif permetrin dalam larutan bahan pengawet yang digunakan adalah 36,8% dan kodar bahan pengawet yang ditambahkan dalam perekat urea formaldehida adalah 0%; 0,25%; 0,50%; 0,75% dan 1% dan berat perekat.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan bahan pengawet permetrin dalam perekat urea formaldehida pada pembuatan papan partikel kayu karet hanya berpengaruh pada sifat pengembangan tebal setelah direndam air dingin selama 24 jam, modulus patah dan kuat pegang sekrup tegak lurus permukaan papan partikel. Secara keseluruhan penambahan bahan pengawet permetrin pada perekat urea formaldehida dalam pembuatan papan partikel dapat meningkatkan kestabilan dimensi dan sifat mekanis papan partikel. Pemberian bahan pengawet permetrin dengan kadar 0,25% dalam perekat urea formaldehida efektif untuk menahan serangan rayap kayu kering pada papan partikel.

A study result on the suitability of 9 wood species from West Java as raw material for veneer and plywood is reported in this paper study conaisted of log peeling characteristic, veneer property and some physical/ mechanical properties of plywood (triplex and multiplex):All of the logs from 9 wood species could be peeled in cold condition, producing 1.5 mm veneer at a cuting angle between 90°30-91°30. The average shrinkage of veneer is 7.21%, with a minimum of 4.08% (Enteroloblum) and maximum 10. 75% (keruing). Veneer swelling from oven-dry to air-dry condition varied between 2.04% (Enterolobium) and 4.28% (Damar) with an average of 2.93%.The bonding strength of plywood from 6 wood species (66%.) conform with the Indonesian standard fo type 11 or water resistant, all wood species conform with Japanese and German standard.The specific gravity of multiplex (0,60) is higher than triplex (0,58). Some mechanical properties of multiplex are higher than triplex.

A glue shear test was conducted using plywood panel, made from three wood species namely pine (Pinus merkusii Yung et de Vr.), Eucalyptus alba and Eucalyptus deglupta from West Java. The bolts were rotary peeled into veneer of 1.5 mm thick.The veneer sheets were glue with urea formaldehyde resin in combination with meranti and kapur veneers. Each plywood sample thus consisted of three layer veneer and meranti merah (red meranti) and kapur (Dryobalanops oramatica Gaert) as face and back veneers.The bonding strength (glue shear strength) of each plywood type were then tested according to the Indonesian and Japaneess standard. The result indicates that there were significant differences between wood species and variation of extender composition according to the Indonesian standard and only percentage of extenders indicated significant difference using Japaneess standard. Percentage 10% extender was the best bonding strength of plywood comprising with the others.

This paper describes the treatment of 1.5 mm x 20 cm x 20 cm rubberwood veneer with BFCA compound of 5 %, 10%. 15 %, 20 % and control, and 3 variations of extender in urea formaldehyde glue , compositionic 10%, 20% and 30%.The results reveal that the concentration of BFCA influences the bonding strength of rubberwood plywood using Indonesian standard. On the other hand the effect of percentage of extender in tne compostion of urea formal dehyde glue is not significant on the bonding strength using Indonesian and Japanese standard. But the interaction. of concentration of BFCA and percentage of extender influences the bonding strength of plywood.

This paper deals with an experiment on the effect of two timber estate wood species i.e. jeungjing (Albizia.falcataria Back), tusam (Pinus merkusii Yung et de Vries) and the composition of weather resistance resin (phenol formaldehyde) on the properties of particle board.All wood samples were obtained from West Java. The sample cut into 2 x 2 cm, 4 x 4 cm and 6 x 6 cm with 5 mm thick, respectively. Wood particles were glued with phenol formaldehyde resin. Particle board were made with 3 glue composition ( 10%, 12% and 14%) based on dry weight of wood particle and 3 wood particle dimension (0.5 mm x 20 mm x 20 mm, 0.5 mm x 40 mm x 40 mm and 0.5 mm x 60 mm x 60 mm).The properties of particle board were tested with Indonesia Industry Standard (SIl. 079783).The result indicated that: The physical and mechanical properties generally met Indonesian Standard. Analysis of variance for internal bond, shear strength and bending strength were significant different on wood species, particle size and the portion of phenol formaldehyde liquid resin. The portion of 14% phenol formaldehyde liquid resin based on the dry wood particle, its physical and mechanical properties were best, compared with others portion of phenol formaldehyde liquid resin (10% and 12%).
